I'm a simple woman; I see Etrian Odyssey in the title and I watch it. It's interesting to hear the perspective of the fans who came into the series with the 3DS games vs the DS trilogy. I have to admit I don't love the Untold games, but I think a lot of fans were too critical of them, particularly fans who started with the original DS titles. Great video! ❤
18:50 I just beat this game yesterday, and while I liked the turn limit and sense of urgency with Mike, man did this game need a way to retry the fight quickly, or at least skip the cutscenes. I did Expert, and having to click through like 2-3 minutes of dialogue, and fight another FOE before I could retry the fight each and every time I failed made the whole thing more aggravating than cool in the end to me. 21:25 Also I just started Untold 2 right after and holy heck, I would've loved seeing Frederica again :( Great vid!
@@chrisvania7700 Thank you for this! I'm annoyed, I remember I googled it to see if there was anyway to skip dialogue and found nothing, but yeah it definitely works! Will definitely be using that
Yeah the game is very designed around the 3DS so if they make it for a newer machine they’ll have to figure out how to get the mapping to be as satisfying. Personally I say make a vertical mode for switch.
@gatonegroloco ATLUS already figured out how to do that with the Origins Collection as part of developing the next Etrian title. Defo agree with a new vertical mode though, that'd be awesome!
I could honestly see an upgraded Untold collection that just nixes Classic mode all together doing really well and not costing that much to make. As much as I prefer pure Etrian Odyssey I think most people prefer RPGs with more set in stone/defined casts and involved narratives and that's exactly what the Untold games are. I also think if Untold and Untold 2 HD were to do well they'd have all the resources available to finally make EO3 Untold (And maybe EO4 HD? That's the only one I've never owned...)
I disliked the genre till I played Persona Q and I think the familiarity with the source games helped that. Shame the same way didn't work with mystery dungeon games and Pokémon/FF
I enjoyed hearing this perspective. Toward the end I started doing chores in my room, when suddenly I overheard you say "that is a story - and experience - that shoudn't be left Untold". I let out the most feminine "oh my god" 😅I feel weird
Sometimes I convince myself to believe that they went with remasters of the DS games to cut costs. Remaking Etrian Odyssey 3 into an Untold game would have certainly been the costly with the ship and the already more-ambitious story
Thanks Milla! I wish they had gone with Untold 1 & 2 rather than the base versions of 1-3 for the remasters. I only have a digital for Untold 1, and missed my chance to get 2 before the eshop closed. I did recently score a copy of EO5 from PlayAsia, so I have Untold, a loose cart of EO2, the Switch remastered trilogy, and 5 available to me. Really want to try and get Nexus before it gets totally out of range! Have you played the Devil Survivor games? Would love to hear your thoughts on one of my favorite DS/3DS series.
I really enjoyed what I played of DS1 back in the day, but I never finished it nor touched the sequel! I do want to get back to them though! Thanks for watching!
It's wild seeing Dungeon Travelers mentioned! I played 2 a while ago but eventually dropped it. The mechanics and gameplay were SO SO good, but honestly some of the ecchi depictions were pretty troubling to me
I agree! Hopefully co-developer STING reuse the DT mechanics down the line in a different IP. Given the DT series is unlikely to continue for multiple reasons, this is more likely than people think!

You can fast forward dialogue by holding X and Y simultaneously in any 3ds and hd EO game. Not sure if that also works on the ds games.
