If you get a crank bolt that is frozen, I recommend putting it in the oven at 100C for about 30 minutes. The materials have different thermal expansion rates so any bond gets broken. This is a variation on the standard industrial technique which is to use a blowtorch
My special talent is fucking up chainring bolts

who asked?
@@peterers3 Peter-Peter-Peter-Pumpkin, who asked YOU? You don't even HAVE a bicycle!
I learned a lot from your channel. I hope you will continue to show your skills to the world so everyone can take benefit. Best regards from The Netherlands.
Thanks very much for your super thanks it really helps us! We really appreciate it🧡⚙️
Man, I'm a hobby mechanic your videos inspire me and I always watch them completely. Awesome job man!
Really good to hear thank you!🧡
Only found your channel a few days ago. Couldn't believe how you can breathe new life into an old bike. Changing bearings, ultrasonic cleaner, cleaning and polishing the frame etc. You guys are a breath of fresh air in a throwaway society.
These are very addictive, especially when cleaning and restoring as a hobby. So much learned here!
you are so lucky, i've already finished watching all of his videos, now have to wait weekly for new videos.
welcome to the community, bikespeeds has gotta be the most relaxing way to learn bike mechanics

@@Bikespeeds Just realized the message was simply “thanks” and that’s not how I wanted to say it! I really enjoy watching your videos and have picked up a lot of good tips from you. Thank you for the extra effort of making them!
That’s great to hear 🧡
Another great, in-depth video. Congratulations Lee and Simon for passing 40k subs 👏
Thanks Adam! Next up 50k slow but sure!🧡
Just ordered your grease set. Keep the videos coming. They're zen and perfect for a bike nerd to chill to.
That’s a great help thank you very much! We appreciate it 🧡
@@Bikespeeds We/I appreciate you.
Superior service as always, Lee. You corrected so many issues, the rider will definitely notice the renewed feel of the bike. Thanks again for bringing all of us into your shop. Congratulations reaching 40K subscribers. I am happy for you and Simon and wish you continued success.
40k✅ thank you for being there from the start!🧡⚙️
It’s the little details that matter. Every video you surprise us with yet another little detail that many (if not most) of us are unaware of. My takeaway this time is the tool on the bottom bracket bearing pushing on the outer rim of the bearing. Pushes it in nicely with no damage to the bearing. This just proves that you do’t mess about. It’s a different tool for every bike and you have them all. Great video once again.
Thank you for your support Rob!🧡⚙️
I love my Thursday evening bikespeeds fix 😊
Thanks very much!🧡⚙️
Seen so many of your videos and I still get excited when a new video is uploaded! Never get tired of them!
We always appreciate it, it’s changing our life slowly but it’s all down to you🧡⚙️
Rim Brakes . . . again? YooHooooooo!👏👏👏👏👏
Tonight’s video is a rare non rim brake at the moment!😂🧡
@@Bikespeeds checked it out, beautiful!
rim for road disc for dirt
Fantastic video! Very informative! I have a TCR myself. Shame I don’t live closer to you, otherwise I would be booking my bike in with yourselfs!

Got to love a Giant TCR when I got back into cycling after 5 years of rowing I bought a 2008 TCR2 advanced brilliant bike I don’t think you can really go wrong with a Giant 👍🙂

Fantastic bike, lovely service

Nice tune up. I would only add a mavic free hub service. A must to keeping the yellow bushing from getting dry and squealing.
Got the cable tension of this old style FD spot on without barrel adjuster👌👌
that tcr will now ride like a tcr should.having a straight rear mech hanger is a must 👍🚴😊

Loved this vid, of course it helps that I nearly have the same bike. I have the disc di2 version. Keep em coming.
Glad you enjoyed this one specifically! Thanks for your support🧡
Beautiful frame.
Thanks for watching Scott!🧡
Nice one 👏
Thank you Michael!🧡
I have that same model and colour scheme, kitted out with DA9200 and C40 tubs, fantastic frameset to ride
Glad you enjoyed this one specifically 🧡⚙️
Excellent video. I learning something from each one. Waxing the chain was interesting. Are your own bikes oiled or waxed?
Oiled in the winter waxed in the summer🧡
may i see how you position the distance from the caliper for the brakes in close up? also how you arrange the cable in front? i would like to have as neat as possible but haven't found a photo to show to my mechanic that satisfies me
Good darts as usual. Great service. How often do you use a quick link? Never had a problem with re using them.
I always reuse them and also never have a problem!🧡⚙️
such a good looking bike, only let down by that crankset and rear derraileur.
Beautiful.
Learned that you can wax a chain and cover it in powder. Had no idea
Got any tips for torque settings?
Google will have all the torque settings for each specific component on your bike! That’s how I learned!🧡
Hi, Another very informative vid, THANKS. I always learn something from watching your vids. Can you tell me what bottom bracket bearing removal tool you are using? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for your support! I couldn’t tell you, with my tools I buy them and forget where they came from almost straight away. I believe this was just from eBay 🧡
Like watching your videos because I want learn how to put handle bar tape on my road bike 👍🏼🚴🏼♂️
It can take a long while to perfect, if you slow the video down you can see we put a little rectangle in the shifter also to make it easier going round it🧡
I Always use BananaWax Drag & Friction TDF Racing ChainWax to wax my Chains & BananaWax Bike Bearing MolyGrease Wax for Bottom Bracket Wheel Bearings Cables and pedals.
I've a Peugeot Perthus Pro Reynolds 753 & Vitus 979 Duralinox Being Vintage Bikes. it's Important everything is kept running smooth and serviced, makes a massive difference.
Thank you for your video it is the best I ever seen, if possible can you show me how to adjust the 105 brake, that it won’t press on one side damage the wheel bearing, you showing at the very beginning of the video. I like your Rolex gold and steel. If you have time please reply me. Thank you, regards. Michael
Hi Michael that could either be the wheel not being seated fully in the frame or the mount turning so move the brake square and really tighten it up, another possible cause could be a buckled wheel🧡
Thank you for your help I will try
Damn! Wrapper that bar tape flawlessly in one go! Youve done it a few times huh
Thanks for watching!🧡⚙️
Do you not do anything to mitigate the carbon dust when cutting the fork? I really liked the dust-buster trick Cam Nichols' guy does.
We will check it out🧡⚙️
Magic.
Thank you!🧡⚙️
This bike was tidier *before* restoration than my 6 month old SL7 is today...
love your videos, very detailed and satisfying, saw you didnt use cable line (to minimize friction) at the bottom bracket where it rubs during shifting. is that not essentially needed?
I would use cable liners there to prevent the cables cutting into the guide. I saw this happen on a Condor and fortunately, we had a spare I previously dug out during my spare time.
It is bike dependant but not on this one 🧡
Roughly how much does a service like this cost?
Really like the videos and picking up tips. I would like to say that providing you follow instructions, are confident with tools and buy an appropriate guide and hacksaw blade you too can cut your steerer tube. However, if you don’t do your own maintenance - take it to a pro.
What torque did you do on the expansion bolt?
Can’t say I blame you for not touching the seatpost. The wedge bolt on that is made of cheese.
How often should i change my rim brake cables? 🤔 they work fine
The interval is dependent on several factors: How often you ride, how long you ride and what weather conditions you ride your bike in.
So the moment they start to feel unreasonably rough, replace.
If they work they work!🧡
Rim brake bikes look so much nicer.
Hello, where did you get the OD1 bearings??
Why do you dont use Morgan Blue at first on every mechanical part before you use the ultrasonic? It would be way easier to clean, it would safe a lot of ultrasonic solution and, most importantly, it would be way more thorough.
Have you put grease or antisieze when installing the bb on a a carbon frame?
Neither🧡⚙️
What torque spec are you using for the chain ring bolts? The Shimano charts I've seen call for 12nm-16nm but I've had issues with stripped bolt heads particularly when the bolts are aluminum and the threads are greased. I've had to back the torque setting down to 10ish nm.
Greasing/lubricating threads reduces torque needed to apply proper tension to the bolt. Quoting: "Much of the torque force is lost to friction-most of which occurs at the threads and where the nut-face turns on the washer". So applying specified torque my over-tension the bolts
I do them up to only 12 Nm since 10 Nm and above is already really high for a chainring bolt. If anything, I see the head flatten when torqued to 12 Nm, to which I stop using any chainring bolts that behaved like this.
Surprisingly, I've never stripped the threads or snapped these bolts, although I'm always concerned about the latter as I close in to 12 Nm while hoping for my torque wrench to click.
Awesome service, but no wheel/freehub bearing check?
Still, amazing service, and amazing workshop.
Not required for this job, they were checked but not changed 🧡
@@Bikespeeds cool, might have missed in the video. Love the collection of syringes. Surgical service. :)
I just went to your website to buy the lubrication syringe set. How do I find the holder for them as well?
We found this in our garage and have never managed to track down another one! So it’s not something we offer to sell! Thanks for your support 🧡
Looks like it is "test tubes holder stainless steel"
@@drbonzonew excellent!
5:12 Nothing says Neglected Giant like an upside-down stem faceplate.
Question about your bar tape - you don't seem to put the tape past the end of the bar tape when you finish it off near the stem. Is there a reason for this? I would have thought this would allow moisture to get through and underneath the tape?
It’s never been an issue for us! Thanks for watching🧡⚙️
Great video as always. Not sure if it's just me but seems there was a slight issue with the audio around 20:30. Not a criticism at all but maybe something to fix if you wish
🧡💪🏼⚙️
No levers lube?
Hey great show I have a question?
I just bought my first ever road bike I know its not much of a head turner I bought it secondhand.
It's a Motion Typhoon bike 16 speed.
This is my Question.
Can I up grade from the 16 speed to 21 & if so can you let me know a suitable cassette & crank.
I only bought this bike on Tuesday 6/8/24 I didn't give much for it & tbh I am finding it hard to find information on the maker.

Thanks mate.
Do you test ride ur bikes after doing a big job like this on em?
No I don’t test ride any bikes 🧡
What is the brand of the bottom bracket exctractor?
Wheels manufacturing🧡
Hello. Can i ask u about noisy chain after waxing? I always degrese chain, its 100% clean, uktrasonic cleaning and then wax, but chain is so noisy I dont undestand that. Any idea why is that?
Hmmm not sure, the powdering could help?🧡⚙️
@@Bikespeeds i dont use that powder. But I order it and try it. Thanks
Quite a few bikes took spills on the wet streets in the Olympics.
🧡
Where was the rear gear cable broken?
At the end top end of the frame 🧡
Do you intend to sell these wax chains with this fairy powder on them?
We don’t, possibly in the future 🧡
8:57 Yeah, I don't agree with that way of "washing".
Sir, when you do your laudry, do you just slap the detergent on your clothing, rub it off with a towel and hang out to dry?
If you wash your car, do you just pour the soap, wipe off and off to drive!!
Ohh you go girl❤
Didn’t check seat post camp, has a habit of pushing into the seat post even when correct tourqe settings is right
😍😍😍👏👏👏👏👏😍👏👏😍👏

Not actually a carbon rim, its an alloy rim with a carbon fairing
