    I think the magic of your channel is the personal, non-studio setting. People talking in the background, the furnace or other household mechanical's, all reminds me of visiting a Uncles, neighbor or best friends basement. I love how you repeat instructions from one video to the next, like too much or too little grease, or taking reference pictures. This way a new viewer gets a full lesson, without having to go back a few videos, to fully understand what you are doing. Don't change a thing my friend, thank you for inviting us into your basement to share your vast knowledge with us.

      Thanks - What you see is what you get. I am a small repair business that is home based. My wife encouraged me to film these about two years ago. The set up is simply her tripod and fixed camera. I don't plan to change anytime soon. BTW you can see my shop set up here ruclips.net/video/PJmhlLdUCXo/видео.html if you have not watched it already - Dennis

      @@2ndChanceTackle I already have, keeping it basic and simple encouraging everyone to do the same. My hats off to you. Most Masters of any trade keep the secrets to themselves. Through the encouragement of your wife you are sharing them with the world.

    Great video Dennis. We missed out on the SSG SERIES in Australia, but did import the SSM SERIES. I also do a lot of maintenance on reels and found my best companion for tricky small SCREWS are magnetic screwdrivers especially for those Crosswind Block screws with greasy fingers.
    Cheers Pete 😎

      Thanks Pete. I have the magnetic Phillips and I should get the flat blade. They work fine, unless the screws are stainless.
      Thanks for watching from half way around the world! Please stay safe and well - Dennis

    Great video. I had a problem with a 430 SSG. Ordered a new housing from Mystic. The replacement was a China cut. My original SSG was Made in USA. China cut had a thinner pinion block rest causing pinion to ride lower. Would not work. I had to fabricate a stainless washer to make difference. Works now. Heads up info.

    Thanks Dennis. I have the 2 722SS & 2 650SS. They work great and I am thankful your so through. Are the Battle III DX 4000 comparable to the the older spin fishers?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 года назад

      No. The Battle reels are a different design mechanically. If you are asking if they are durable, like the older SpinFishers, then, yes, they are quite durable. - Dennis

    Hi and hello
    Do you have a video on the removal and put back of the bail system for this model?

      I think the video I did on the 450 4500 is the same set up as the SSG. You can watch that video here ruclips.net/video/LFjyaR7U0Fk/видео.html Thanks for asking - Dennis

    Thank you for the videos Dennis. They are the most educational compared to other service and repair videos.
    I have a Penn 4400ss and 4500ss, both graphite body, which I am planning to take apart and service. Are these reels similar to the 450ssg seen in this video.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 лет назад +1

      They are very similar. They are different generations of the Spinfisher series, but the design does not vary much between these two. I recommend you get the schematics for both and compare. The maintenance procedures are the same - Dennis

    Hi, I have a Penn 440ssg. The other day while pulling hard on a Redfish, the drag just starting skipping. I tried loosening and then tightening but even locked down it was jumping or skipping. I have since replaced the drag washer and checked the internals and really found no issues. It still does it. When the drag is light it feels normal. When I tighten it, it is still skipping. I am at a loss. Can you steer me in the right direction ? Thanks Jules.

      Did you change the teflon washer on the axle shaft when you replaced the drag washers? Did you also change the metal washers or just the fabric ones? Those would be the next things to check if you just changed the drag washers. Also - are you using braid line? Is it backed with mono-filament? If not, there may be braid bunching or braid slip going on there. - Dennis

      Hi, I only changed the fabric washer and no on replacing the nylon washer. I had already checked the line and no slippage or bunching. It was and has been working great, so I think something broke perhaps. Today I pulled it apart and all seems to be correct. With the side cover off everything there moves free and easy. What I can do now though is tighten the drag as tight as I can and just pull hard on the line and the spool spins. I have had this apart before a few years ago for general service and never had an issue until now. Thanks too for trying to help me. Jules.

    Hello Dennis. I really enjoy tour videos, I have a couple Penn 970 and 980 mag reels. have you ever worked on these? A video would make my day.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 лет назад +1

      Yes. The gear side is standard Penn. The "Mag" feature is in the non-gear side plate. If you are tuning up the reel or replacing drag washers, then the process is pretty much the same as a basic Jigmaster or Long Beach reel. The mag side plate needs cleaning, but not much else -Thanks for asking - Dennis

      Thanks for comeback Dennis. You have inspired me into restoring some vintage reels . I did an Ocean City 112 last night and it came out great.

    Thanks for the video! I have a Penn 450SS all metal made in the USA ( I live in Ohio) which I purchased new many years ago. The anti- reverse quit working long ago and after seeing your video, I pulled it out of an old tackle box and decided to take it apart and work on it. After taking it apart and removing decades of old hardened grease all gearing looks to be in perfect condition. However my anti-reverse is a little different on my model. That little brass pivoting piece (which you called the trip lever) locks away from the gear when the rear drag lever is flipped off, but when it is flipped to anti-reverse the trip lever does not engage the gear. Is that trip lever supposed to be spring loaded? This reel has never been taken apart before. Your expertise would be greatly appreciated.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 лет назад

      Hi - If I recall, this reel has he ratchet and friction clip for for anti-reverse. The anti reverse should have a "V" slot opening, where the tongue of the "V" rides on each side of the ratchet disc. This operates by friction. The dog is pulled into the ratchet slot when you stop the reel. Check the schematic for the reel. It is available at Mysticparts.com under Penn Parts, spinning reels. That will show the sequence and orientation of these parts. Please send me a picture of your set up if this does not work. The picture can be sent to me at 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com - Dennis

    Denice, thanks for your videos, they are very helpful, I have a peen 450ss that was bought back in the late eighties, what do you call the internal bail spring that hooks over the top dog lever. I'm having an issue with the springs name part identification.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 года назад

      I think you are referring to the eccentric spring. If you go to the Mysticparts.com page for Penn parts and look for spinning reel schematics under the Spinfisher models, you will get the burst diagram and the part listings by name. If you need that part, you can order on that site - Dennis

      ruclips.net/video/-8LZcwRwejY/видео.html will show you, The G designation is for graphite. The reel is basically the same -
