  • My review of my ARAI TOUR X5, IS IT WORTH £700!
    I’m from an area of England, more specifically Netherton and Dudley known as the BLACK COUNTRY. I'm currently riding a BMW R1250GS.
    just me and now and then a few mates riding around the UK. I will add famous graves, a bit of humour, some historical facts along the way.
    i have a passion for WW1 and WW2 and visit the Battlefields of France, Holland and Belgium every year with a gang of likeminded mates..... i have some videos on my other channel 'THE WOODMIESTER'
    Please subscribe if you like what you see and feel free to comment. Small channels like mine are disappearing fast. More videos will be added and more cameras will come on board, its a learning curve for me and hopefully will get better as we go on this journey together.
    I don't get paid for this or receive any gratuities whatsoever, just my own funds. this is for my own enjoyment and hopefully yours too.

    I like that you owned the XD4 before reviewing the XD5. I ordered the 5 in cosmic yellow, so it was nice to see all the angles you shared and hear your thoughts on both models. Thank you!

      @@jmalash Thank you for watching and commenting buddy. I think you’ve made an excellent choice, I’m sure you’ll love it. I will be doing another review on it a few months down the line but so far it’s been brilliant 👍🏻

      Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching the video buddy, I really appreciate it and your comments. Also have as Look at the Klim Krios Pro 2 mate as it’s very similar. Both have pros and cons against one another. Klim is a bit cheaper too but my Arai is brilliant.

    Nice review mate. I did seriously consider that actually helmet but pushed the spending just that bit too far for me so ended up with the Scorpion ADF 9000. Think it came 4 th in the same table the Arai came second. Meet up soon mate for that rideout

    How is the wind buffering compared to the XD-4? Thanks for your thoughts.

    • @theblackcountrybiker
      @theblackcountrybiker  23 дня назад

      In my honest opinion it’s a lot better than the XD-4, far less buffering at higher speeds and non at lower speed. If you compare the helmets you’ll see the difference with the larger gaps in the 5. I honestly don’t think there’s a peaked helmet on the market that can totally eradicate it. Obviously buddy it depends on your height and what bike you have and where you position the screen but I’m really happy with the helmet. My only gripe is that as this new one is now rounded off a lot more than the 4 I’m struggling with my wireless DJI mic 2 touching my mouth but I think I have a solution.
      Thanks for watching and your question.

      I have a ‘pro-shot’ mount but have recently purchased a ‘Chin Mount’ From the company with the same name 👍🏻 that’s what you can see in the video

    I've put 60k kms into my Tour X4 before buying the X5. After using the X5 for like 4-5k kms, it's worse than the X4. The new visor system is clunky, notchy and hard to open. In general, the X5 is noisier and there is a super annoying, loud whistling even at very low speeds with the visor open (had to fabricate my own fix, Arai customer service was less than helpful, told me to close the visor at all times... in 35-40 Celsius heat, buddy? thanks! :D), and the vertical field of view is narrower. Some changes Arai made simply doesn't make sense. On the plus side, comfort and ventilation is exactly the same level, horizontal FOV is wider, very obvious with shoulder checks. The old X4 is a much-much better buy for the price.

      @@Szlejer I’ve had no issues with my visor or the whistling noises buddy. To tell you to keep the visor shut at all times is absolutely ridiculous. The guy who sold me mine is an Arai technician and he didn’t say anything about keeping the visor closed. If it doesn’t suit you Buddy you should return it and try an alternative like the Klim Krios pro. Sorry you’ve had a bad experience with yours. I have to say I’ve found the vision slightly better than the 4 but wished they’d kept the visor vents despite the so called leaking issues. I also find the new peak quieter than the 4 and less vibrations. Maybe you should give it a bit more than the 4-5kms and adjust the peak a little. Good luck whatever you decide 👍🏻

      @@theblackcountrybiker I wore the X5 for 4000-5000 kms Buddy :D, not 4-5 kms (the X4 for 60 000+ kms before retiring it), already has some dings and scratches, so it's a bit late for a return. Bottom line is, the X5 is a fine helmet, but simply a worse design than the X4 (which also had a whistling problem, but was fixed on later models by Arai). Adjusting the peak didn't fix the whistling on the X5 above 35km/h, taping small strips of velcro between the visor and peak to disrupt the airflow did.

      @@Szlejer I missed the k off in error. I still think there is a problem with the helmet. My visor was letting air through onto my right cheek for a while so I removed it and put it back on and it was fine but no doubt you’ve tried all that. My review was an honest one mate but I can only review my findings on it, we’re all different. I would guess you had yours before mine so maybe it’s the same again as with the X4, the problems have been ironed out on the newer ones but again I would guess that as it’s a new helmet ours were made within short order of one another. Anyway like I said before good luck on what you decide to get next.
