CHECK YOUR FACTS. The brand Gerald Charles was FOUNDED by Gerald Genta. He made some prototypes that had the same design as the watches you show here. I think that its a cool way to tribute the man. Putting the watch on the market that HE DESIGNED! For me it feels like you are way of and just hate on the brand because they are expencive and market the brand... Stop throwing around numbers when you have no clue what the costs of making a watch are.
So the beef you have is with the price? Really you are upset at $31,000 tag in the watch business? Does AP really cost anywhere near they sell for.? I would agree with you if your concern was only focused on misrepresenting a major designer, but in this industry all the manufacturing are extracting HUGE margins on their products. Also What was that “ maybe his wife is designing the watches but I am not sure?????? Sounded a little disrespectful to be honest.
If they really wanted to cash in on Genta's legacy they should be knocking out quirky humorous retrograde and jump hour watches as it's what he ended up doing and also I think there's a real gap in the market right now for those complications and watches that don't take themselves too seriously.
Aren’t all watches you pay over retail based on speculation and popularity. Is a Rolex Panda worth 3x its msrp. Most of the hype is generated by advertising and influencers. Great content. Keep providing the videos.
I wouldn’t buy one, but I don’t think the “sum of parts cost is low” is much of an argument. I doubt there are any luxury watches that cost much more than 1k to produce (my guess is my Rolex Air King cost Rolex a couple of hundred at most), the value is all in the brand / marketing / design, don’t blame them for cashing in.
@@jeffjacobson59 Lange is just a small piece of a large conglomerate Richemont, at least Rolex (and Journe) are independent I guess, but at the end of the day, watchmaking isn’t rocket science, more like art. A painting doesn’t cost much to make either.
This is a bit different as they are being posted double retail price for sale on Chrono. My point is that they are not special and should be trading very low at a later date. Right now there is some hype for these but I wage the hype should eventually disappear.
@@JohnPWatches i think they make very limited quantities and that alone might be why it might support the high secondary price. Only 19 GC watches on Chrono, with 69K of Rolex. Not too hard to see why it carries such a premium.
a lot of questions about the takes in this video. criticism of a $2xx with no mention of the detailed engineering that took place to create the product with such specifications. like criticising how much the engine costs in comparison to an entire vehicle.
The design is a tribute to a prototype of Genta himself. This guy annoys me. He's the one who says that no one likes or buys Vacheron Constantin... 😒 I guess he tries too hard to make 'controversial' or 'original' opinions...
I'm not sure if it's true, but somewhere I've heard that this was Genta's last design. I'm not going to lie I really like the design, in a matter of act I almost bought a stainless steel today.
I don't think he has seen the real watch. I've tried on a Maestro 2.0 color green in Zurich last year. It is so good & so different to most of the other brands.
I appreciate your and Fed’s honest approach to the market: you buy watches and sell them, at what I think is very correct pricing, end of story. There’s another channel/retailer whose content I enjoy, but it is so clear that they are constantly trying inflate one brand after another. It’s not just buying and selling, it’s influencing the market. Nothing technically wrong there, but I attribute a lot of the worst aspects of the hobby to what they’ve spent years doing. What I’m saying is: please keep doing what you’re doing at DelRay Watch!
when you said the price. i expected 15k and i really maxed it out. 31k is just bullshit. those are patek/vacheron/AP/Rolex daytona or rare vintage/gold omega/rare cartiers etc. like qtf
The watch box said the new Omega Speedmaster is not worth the price because Omega probably spend $200 more to make all the new upgrades for the watch while Rolex raised the price by over $1000. On their watches last year with out making many changes. Now you are saying that this watches are not worth the price and I believe you but you also said I can find a better watch in your shop for $2000. I looked and could not find a gold watch on your site for $2,000
Here in Italy I honestly never heard about this brand and I haven't ever seen an advertising or someone wearing it. I think that the price is crazy for what they're offering.
Same here, Italian buddy ☺️ Never seen this thing around. And, except one Italian RUclips channel, never heard anybody in the community talking about it. And agree. Crazy price, also aesthetically unpleasant (my personal view).
I think Marco Belinelli was one of the first, but recently every Italian soccer player and their cousin seem to be wearing one. I think Italianwatchspotter has spotted a few.
@@ivanlombardi7235 Italian watchspotter is precisely, to my best knowledge, the only italian channel talking about this watch. They actually published a dedicated video. I’ve not seen that many soccer players with this watch. Then again, I really don’t care that much about soccer (yes, I’m Italian ☺️). Also, no ads online or offline on this watch. So really wondering why this thing is supposedly so popular in Italy.
Genta has some watch movements that even stumped Cameron Weis as to how he made the pieces before laser cutting and other newer production methods. Still, other than AP, PP, UG, and the Mickey Mouse watches ....his watches are good values. For private requests, Genta hand-designed the movements, dials and cases of his timepieces and employed limited or no external assistance, outsourcing or mechanization during the process; it was not unusual for a single watch to take up to 5 years to complete.[Chilton &, Co (1995). Voh-shay. Not Vow-cher. Soprod is the upper end of the ETA/Sellita class. However when a Canadian independent like Bradley Taylor puts a Vaucher movement in a stainless case with purchased Comblemine dial he gets praised heavens. At $22k USD!!!
I don't particularly like Bradley Taylor's watches and your points do highlight a double standard. But at least Bradley has the conscience to add anglage and interior angles to the movements...
@@wertj3977 No, you buy them exactly like that. It's the Vaucher VMF-5401/32 option instead of just the base 5401. They also have a more "high tech" looking decoration as the VMF-5401/33.
Do they do one called the "Linguine"? it's buttery smooth to wind up. All done very tastefully of course. The "Tulip bulb dial" Is testament to this fact. It's the Daniel Wellington for the clueless Richmond Set.
There are some iconic Genta watches that are quite reasonable. Go watch Aliens and then grab one of the Seiko models in the movie. Easily, less than $1000.

Actually really like the design and it looks great on wrist with that rubber strap. But for that kinda money? Nahhhhhh
These models are also restricted to 100 pieces per year which means they are limited edition. That hikes up the price.

If they positioned it similar to Rolex/Tudor then maybe, but it look like a watch from aliexpress
we need some fresh watch designs in the mid luxury range- this would have been phenominal at $4000.
Absolutely crazy for sure but mark up might not be to different for another top brand. $2000-$30000 vs $250-$9000.
