I love how you emphasize how much a difference a good brush is with a polish. I feel the same! Could you do a video on comparing the different brushes with a same color polish to show the difference in application and performance? I feel like so many ppl are hesitant to paint their own nails because of bad brushes. If only they knew what a big difference the brush makes!
I love these videos where you test products like this. I always thought it was my lack of skill when my polish wouldn't dry in 10 minutes. Can you test some drugstore brands, like Sally Hansen?
Hello J! Thank you for your comment! We have many drugstore brands on this channel like Essence and Sally Hansen. I don’t buy lots of SH because I really can’t stand their brushes. They are very difficult to work with. Essence brush isn’t the greatest either.

I let my nails dry until they are semi dry. Then I gently swipe a small amount of oil (baby, olive, whatever) over the polish and the tackyness is gone and the nails are dry!
I actually put my nails under cold running water and let the water run in different directions. It really helps with the drying time.
Perfect timing! I was just googling this question literally yesterday! I bought the dry drops today and I used them right after the speed setter top coat. To me, it seemed it helped make speed setter even speedier!
I used to absolutely love Gel Setter, but I find it shrinks a little and it takes a while to dry. I prefer speed setter, I’m an impatient girl!

Thank you so much for doing this test. I have been using OPI Infinite Shine with Seche Vite top and OPI drops - fabulous. Yesterday I decided to use Essie Gel Couture w the corresponding Essie top coat ... I then put the OPI drops although I felt it might be a mistake - everything was lovely, seemed fine. Went to sleep eight hours later - EIGHT! - and woke this morning with a mess of little lines in my nails - just got done putting a coat of Seche Vite on top and it looks good. No drying drops. This is maddening really.
With the Omicron surge in my area I stopped going to have gels done once every three weeks and instead do my own about once a week. My nails are a mess. I am trying to rehab them and found your videos. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work.

Hey, awesome video, thanks for posting! Have you ever tried one of the aerosol can variants of drying aid? I think the one I picked up at the drugstore was Envi? I've never been able figure out the mechanism by which those are supposed to work either and can't really tell if it helps or not

I find these drops work best when you drop them on relatively wet nail polish, if I'm really short on time and on the run, I find they save me from more so light pressure (from putting on a jacket, etc). I wonder if you test that out instead, to see how much they guard from fingerprints on fresh polish within the first minute of application-rather than waiting two minutes and then adding the drops?
I've only tried one local brand of drying spray and only a few times and was totally unimpressed.
I found that this kind of products are ment to give the polished nail a slippery feel while airdrying, so that when you accidentaly brush against something, the wet polish is less sticky/tacky and it's less likely to mess up. On the other hand, that extra layer of slippery stuff on the polish seems to slow down the evaporation of the solvents. Just my unprofessional opinion.
To, somehow, test my opinion, you could try comparing just 4 coats of polish with 4 coats and drying drops and with 4 coats and a drop of light nail oil, then imediatly brush against clothes, or a towel, something that normally would stick to wet polish. Without really drying the coats of polish, I think both the drying drops and the nail oil will help in the same way: the towel brushing (very little to no pressure aplied) against the polish will slide rather then stick to the polish.
I really think that is the only thing drying drops are meant to do and that does not make me ever buy any of them again...

I love the Essie Drying Drops. I honestly don’t know that they help with the drying per say. But they definitely do a great job at preventing dings, dents, & furfetti (pet hair) from getting stuck. I let each coat dry really well before I use it on my top coat. Another thing I really love about Essie is the square bottles. They’re much easier for me to grip. The only top coat I use is their gel couture one. Lovely video! Any tips for people with extremely shaky hands? It’s a medical condition so not much I can do to stop the shaking lol I also had another question. Why does my top coat pull pigment from red polishes? That’s the only color that does that to me. 🤷🏼♀️
So this works really well for me and several friends of mine with shaky hands, but none of us have a known medical condition so it might not be applicable in this case. But since no one with direct experience answered I figure, can't hurt to throw out a possibility?
Try laying the hand to be painted on a flat surface and letting it relax. (if that hand is extra shaky, sometimes putting something under your palm so your hand can be at a natural cure rather than being held rigidly flat can help). Then plant the forearm and wrist of the hand you're going to paint with on the surface too. Then paint by swiveling your wrist rather than moving your hand. You'll probably have to reposition for each nail.
I hope you do find some solution, because I imagine it's a really frustrating thing to have to deal with regularly.
Also, same thing happens to varying degrees with every top coat I've ever tried and I've never gotten an explanation.

I would add that I like to support my painting hand. On some surface. So I don’t hold it in the air. I have to do a video about it. When I paint clients nails I use my pinky to support my hand.
Red polishes have a lot of pigment so I think that’s why. I would have to ask a chemist though.

I like the video and ur testing.. I did purchase the drops before but I did not do that far as to test..it was ok to have the nails dry when I don't have the to wait for full dryness.. but what u just demonstrated was a shock to me.. not gonna invest anymore in this dry drops
Mine almost always do the same.get nicks or scratches from not hardening. What is a reasonable process and products can I use and get a good manicure, paint job and it actually come out set hard enough
Gasp! Did Essie change their brushes?! Bikini So Teeny was my first Essie bottle but it was just so freaking hard to work with 🥲Unlike other darker colors, this baby-blue has so little coverage and the brush god the brush is a tiny round brush 🥲 looking at your video, i realize maybe i should buy some flat brushes and change them all
I’ve seen other users who applied the Quick-E on each layer of polish. That seemed to work best. Have you tried that method?
You gotta put it on between each layer, been using it for a while this way and I dont even have to wait 1 minute after applying to final coat to be able to use my hands as usual. Or at least just give the full amount of drying time to the other layers. The issue with your test here is you failed to let the layers between dry before drying out the final layer, which made the layers underneath unable to dry correctly.
But how can you apply new layers if there is oil there? Will a new coat of nail polish stick on an oily surface? Or do you need to wash your hands after each layer?

Wow, I don't use drops, but I didn't expect that! 🤔 The Essie Gel Setter is a good top coat, if you can wait for it to dry; I like to give it 15 minutes before I use my hands and I remain careful for a couple of hours. After that it's really hardened, in my experience (I'm on my third bottle). I find it helps with longevity and I love how shiny it is. ❤But it's not fast drying. 😕Btw, I love that nail polish on my toes in summertime! ⛱Thank you for the video, cheers! 💅

The drops worked great for me , i put on a minute after my polish
I'm getting some Essie Speed Setter soon or Essense Nail polish drops. But Essie is 13.5ml and Essense drops are 8ml, and I like the extra 5.5ml! I use Elegant Touch nail Drying spray 200ml and it's a good Drying spray!
I like Essie polishes but they can be smudgy and takes ages to dry! Trial and error no, budget times in the UK, no longer can I waste money on useless nail stuff! UK 🇬🇧

BTW I thought dropper/bulb tops allowed evaporation of the liquid, so are you supposed to put the original screw top back on the bottle after you’re done? Might make a difference over time. I learned this from the reviews of the Dazzle Dry thinning liquid. 🤔

Hi there! With DD Revive I agree. It has super fast evaporating solvents.
These drops don’t evaporate so fast. They contain silicones and oils. Much much slower evaporating than polish thinners.
@@TheSalonLife ah yes, you make a great point! 😊 I’m a perfume hobbyist and the bottles with the vintage-looking bulb sprays are awful because you lose perfume in the same manner. That rubber seal is not as good as a regular top. So I’m always wary… it makes a big impact on alcohol-based liquids.

You might have some more luck with the drops if you use them in between coats. From the "very scientific scratch test" and personal experience it looked like the top layer set but not the bottom ones. They also might be useful for drying stamping patterns or dotticures before you top coat them so they don't smudge, if you do nail art.
Hi Felicity! You can't apply them between the coats because they are very slippery and almost greasy feeling and the polish won't bond to a surface full of silicones and oils.
The instructions say to apply them at the end.
I don’t like dry drops prefer my Glisten & Glow fast dry. Do you know any wide brushes fit Cirque? I know Glisten & Glow brushes work for Essie.

I use essie drops for every manicure. I always do my manicure at night
I wait 15 mins after my quick dry top coat. I drop one per nail and head to bed. In the morning i have dry nails and without those ugly marks from my blankets and sheets. Ill Always use these drops.
If i dont use the drops my manicure is a mess in the morning

Oh I’m shocked at Gel Setter by itself and find it super fast dryer, even quicker than Vinylux. It also has a nice finish. I’ve used it a few times in the past couple of months and almost immediately used my hands without dents or scuffs. I’ve even slept with it after 10 minutes application! I won’t buy this drip formula. I have OPI Drip Dry and it works pretty much the same as this one. Thanks for these fun videos!

@@TheSalonLife Hi Anna. I have used Essie Good to Go quick drying top coat, and I can attest that it lives up to its name. It is very fast drying. Good to Go and Seche Vite are the best fast drying top coats IMO. Merci.

@@TheSalonLife I was a long time user of the inexpensive brand poprazzi they have a variety of nail products but although I didn’t use there polish I did use their dry drops and it applied and felt like water and dried my polish in seconds rock hard dry for only 2.50 a small bottle never greasy it was a beautiful product then I couldn’t find it at my CVS store on day and never saw it again oh how I miss that one it was fabulous loved it so much

Intuitively, this is basically a silicone slip layer meant to help minor contact slip off the nail without smudging. But it’s also occlusive. We use similar products to keep moisture in our skin and hair, and it seems it is also slowing drying of the polish.
