Oh my god never in my life would I have guessed Rizzo would learn about loadshedding. I am from South Africa, and there are a lot of reasons why we aren't really that good 1. We only got SA servers in 2017 (if you weren't already playing rocket league for a long time, this wouldn't really get you into it.) 2. Because of player scarcity, there aren't really that many good players to go up against to become better. 3. Motivation falls off, there is no real "goal" to be really good at video games in South Africa (we don't have large tournaments), its best to just study and find a job and play games for fun. Disclaimer, South Africa is a great place and if you go to places like Cape Town or Pretoria, I don't think you would feel much of a difference from America, we just have a large portion of poor places. Everyone in Pretoria has solar panels now to combat Loadshedding. But if you don't then the power could be out anywhere from 2 to 8 hours a day and anywhere from 10am to 8pm. If you have more questions I'd be happy to answer.
So like could/would they go and completely chief the system and avoid those blackout periods... Cause let alone going there in bad faith, If they somehow avoid that a generator like rizzo said or smthn would be disgustingly insane.
Can't say much about SA but in Zambia we are loadshedded for 14 hours and it can be sporadic but generally follows a schedule like 5 to 19 (5 am to 7 pm) I play on the EU servers with 200 to 300 ping😭@@aarondougherty236

The guy has a point. But he's just so wrong with the execution. Yeah regions wont improve if they only get international competition twice a year and just get stomped. But the solution should be holding smaller tournaments in europe for those regions. So 8 teams fly out to europe and play a tournament against each other and then they can bootcamp against EU teams. I mean in CS all the good NA teams bootcamp in EU. (or at least they did when there were good NA teams xd)
I think it’s unfair to call MENA and SAM minor regions these days. Their top teams are very capable of taking down EU and NA teams at this point. Maybe we could start to call them secondary regions

But you can clearly see that in MENA and SAM theres only 1 team that can really compete with the top, Falcons and Furia

Yeah I don't mind players relocating to play in our regional, but there needs to be some representation of the region in every team that competes in the region.... Regarding load shedding - It doesn't occur at a provincial (state) level. Its almost always at a neighbourhood level and will affect an entire city rarely. It is scheduled well in advance most of the time and we even have an app that gives us running updates. It is lessening, my city hasn't had load shedding for months, but other parts of the country are not as fortunate. No two neighborhoods that are next to each will have load shedding at the same time, so its not like you have to drive more than 30 kilometres to find electricity in most cases - there are also pretty inexpensive solutions(obviously a relative take) for backup power, such as a UPS. All this to say that, I don't think that load shedding actually makes it any more difficult for you to become a pro in a video game...

Exactly, going to a LAN to compete against other regions is massive for these newer players, who can scrim every day against top teams at bootcamps and really get a chance to see how high they can go, get inspired to do better and improve along with their region. VKSailen massively understates this as "9 games" - probably because nobody wanted to play them - but it has contributed to a really big part in SAM and MENA's improvement from the beginning to now being able to compete with the best of the best.
the only reason PWR beat OXG was because Joyo and Archie were selling. OXG were so bad this major. PWR can definitely take games off teams, but it takes a team to play badly for PWR to take a series

the point of worlds is to represent the world lol I dont mind the take of 'let only the best players in' in another kind of tournament but I dont think thats really what a world championship is about in any sport or esport context. its not to only see the best its to see the best from every country/ region. people competing between nations as a rivalry happens all the time like the eu vs na stuff, but it happens at lower levels as well if you look at the olympics many smaller nations have rivalry's.

If the 20th best EU team can go stomp the best SSA teams, in a purely competitive context, it's not actually that fair that said 20th best EU team doesn't get to go to a major simply because they faced tougher competition. Or to be more specific it's not really fair that they should be prohibited from moving down to SSA so they can have the same chances as the SSA teams. And I know the response would be that the 20th best EU team would get eliminated at the major anyway (as they did) since they'd have to face the top EU teams anyway, so it's not like you're really taking that much away from them. But the problem with that line of thinking is that the exact same logic applies to the entirety of the SSA region. So why do minor regions get special treatment in order to give them the "experience" of losing at a major? It's essentially arbitrary. It's done, for lack of a better term, for "diversity and inclusion" reasons. Which is antithetical to a true competitive spirit.

I don't think its a "problem" so to speak. My issue is with the ones who don't play in the region and therefore play on high ping. I think the minimum should be renting a space each weekend to play the matches in the region. I actually think that its good for the region in general, and the players (the non-natives) shouldn't feel pressured to scrim the teams from that region. Having it open for competition is the right thing, but allowing said players to play "from home" because they got locked into it the first split shouldn't be acceptable. The "region-lock" for the season is a good rule that would be well accompanied by it being necessary to play from the region (rather than from another). However, the player in question here is not being very nice about it. It would be 100% better to do it and just not say a word.
