Helen was brought up with the heritage of Swedish Folkmusic and Folklore, just like I also was.. Her Mother sang in the same choir as my old parents did for many many decades !! Helens control and voice is something else :D // I believe Björn and Benny wrote this song especially for her to sing. it`s based of a Great Drama written by the author Vilhelm Moberg, telling us about the hardships so many emigrants experienced when leaving Sweden for America during some horrific famine years.. like 1/3 of the Swedish population did between 1850-1920 .
Unglaublich.... Es ist phantastisch wie Helen dieses wunderbare Lied darstellt, singt und zum wahrhaften Aufruf an Gott interpretiert. Bravo!!! Vielen, vielen Dank ❤
WOW just WOW, what a performance....the emotion went straight into my heart. I don't understand the words, but why then am I crying?? You just feel her pain. Helen Is one of very few artist in the world who can do that to me!
Incredible to see this performance!! There must be a recording of the entire play out there SOMEWHERE! I can't wait to see the full show one day; I was too young when it came out
First new ABBA's music and now this... the best Christmas gifts ever!!! Thanks for upload this clips and maybe, just maybe you should to release the full recording 😉 thanks once again and merry Christmas to all of you at Mono!!!!
What a Xmas gift! THANK YOU!! Regards from my solar plexus, too. Those airplanes in my belly appear even when I just watch this on my mobile. The best song ever, with the one and only Kristina. Loooove Helen, loooove KfD. God Jul alla på Mono Music!
Here is a translation, for any English speakers that want to know what the lyrics are about: You Must Exist (Du måste finnas) You drove me out, God From my homeland I was torn Here I am a fugitive and a foreigner And I accept that as my fate But you took my child And you take me from my husband I can no longer see a meaning What is it that you want What am I to believe? The thought is dizzying Before me lies an abyss My whole being is in revolt and wants to refuse But the question has been raised And now my soul trembles at the answer; That you do not exist Even though I believed in you Who would help me endure life out here? Who would give me the strength I must have? Who would comfort me? I am so small on this earth If you did not exist What would I do then? No, you must exist You must I live my life through you Without you I am a splinter On a dark and stormy sea You must exist You must! So then how could you abandon me? I would be nowhere I would be nothing If you did not exist Never before have I uttered or thought it That little word that frightens and torments me so The word is If If I’ve said all my prayers in vain If you do not exist, God Then what am I to do? Who would feel my repentance and then grant forgiveness Peace within my soul, who would give me that? Who would receive me finally after death? If you did not exist Who would care for me then? No, you must exist You must! I live my life through you Without you I am a splinter On a dark and stormy sea You must exist You must! So then how could you abandon me? I would be nowhere I would be nothing If you did not exist Without you I am a splinter On a dark and stormy sea You must exist You MUST! So then how could you abandon me? @@kimbozw1808 This is the ideal amount of emotion for a stage performance of this climactic, desperate number. I’d say this is the best rendition I’ve seen of it.
I've never really Listened to this song. Of course have I heard it and appreciated the grandure of it but I was young and for a young man this counted as "boring". If this is one of the first performances she did...wow have I missed something! It's close to a perfect stage performace this is what I imagine when I think of live theatrical musical performances.. The emotion makes this clip great she could/can sing good any day of the week. Just my two cents.. :)
Jag ser inte mig själv som särskilt kristen, men jag gråter av alltid av det här starka framförandet!!! ❤❤❤
Brilliant, just as I remember it. Surely one of the greatest moments ever in musical theatre history. The emotion that Helen shows is amazing

Every time I hear it, I get goose bumps. Who else can create such great works, this days?
Finns ingen som gör den här sången bättre än henne! HELEN SJÖHOLM vår gudinna!
OJ, OJ, OJ ! ! !
OFATTBART BRA❣️❣️❣️
20 av 10🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Absolute best peformance I've seen of the song. Helen at times almost shouting "Du måste!" left me in tears again. Wow.
Helen Sjöholm is a genius. So as Benny Andersson.
Golly, I thought the version from the concert in Minnesota was good, but this is absolutely spectacular.
Den här låten är guld med Helens röst. GULD. Så enormt stark.
Holy sweet lord!!
Hon sjung rakt från själen. Jag fick rysningar över hela kroppen!!!! Wow!!!
Amazing. What a singer.... What a song.... Goosebumps every time

Hun er FANTASTISK!!!
As far as a song number in a musical, this is the peak. Noone, nowhere, no matter language can surpass Helen Sjöholm in this performance.
There are others who do as well as she.
Bäst av alla.HELEN!

You Must Exist (Du måste finnas)
You drove me out, God
From my homeland I was torn
Here I am a fugitive and a foreigner
And I accept that as my fate
But you took my child
And you take me from my husband
I can no longer see a meaning
What is it that you want
What am I to believe?
The thought is dizzying
Before me lies an abyss
My whole being is in revolt and wants to refuse
But the question has been raised
And now my soul trembles at the answer;
That you do not exist
Even though I believed in you
Who would help me endure life out here?
Who would give me the strength I must have?
Who would comfort me?
I am so small on this earth
If you did not exist
What would I do then?
No, you must exist
You must
I live my life through you
Without you I am a splinter
On a dark and stormy sea
You must exist
You must!
So then how could you abandon me?
I would be nowhere
I would be nothing
If you did not exist
Never before have I uttered or thought it
That little word that frightens and torments me so
The word is If
If I’ve said all my prayers in vain
If you do not exist, God
Then what am I to do?
Who would feel my repentance and then grant forgiveness
Peace within my soul, who would give me that?
Who would receive me finally after death?
If you did not exist
Who would care for me then?
No, you must exist
You must!
I live my life through you
Without you I am a splinter
On a dark and stormy sea
You must exist
You must!
So then how could you abandon me?
I would be nowhere
I would be nothing
If you did not exist
Without you I am a splinter
On a dark and stormy sea

I would be nothing
If you did not exist

En rörande version av en rörande låt.
a little over dramatic perhaps, but good to see it finally.
@Nick Emerson i know, Nick. just felt that it was a little TOO dramatic overall. others will disagree.

@Nick Emersoni am used to the restrained version. perhaps that's why this felt a bit too dramatic for me.

Well if you had lost your baby and were afraid to lose the rest of your family and husband too, I think you would get a little desperate and dramatic.
