I've always maintained that Smith was well backed by the board, especially in his first and 3rd summer with us. He was even given money to spend only weeks before he was sacked, on Tobias Linderoth and Lee Carsley. If you remember, we were constantly told by the pundits that nobody could do a better job than Smith as he had no money to spend! Yet Moyes came in and spent no more than Smith did, and we flew up the table. Never rated WS, at Everton anyway.
