God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released worldwide on November 9, 2022, for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, marking the first cross-gen release in the series. It is the ninth installment in the God of War series, the ninth chronologically, and the sequel to 2018's God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game is set in ancient Scandinavia and feature series protagonist Kratos and his teenage son Atreus. Serving as the finale to the Norse era of the series, the game covers Ragnarök, the eschatological event which is central to Norse mythology and was foretold to happen in the previous game after Kratos killed the Æsir god Baldur.
Originally slated for a 2021 release, the game was delayed in part due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on development, and Kratos actor Christopher Judge's health problems in August 2019. Prior to its delay, it won awards for Most Wanted Game and Most Anticipated Game from the 2020 Golden Joystick Awards and PlayStation.Blog awards, respectively, and many gaming journalists and websites had regarded the sequel as one of their most anticipated games. Ragnarök garnered universal acclaim from critics.

Absolute chad of a dad.
This sounds wierd out of context...
I’m impressed, too. Normally Kratos would bash someone’s head to force them to read, or gouge their eyes and then break their neck.
More like gouge their eyes out, break their neck and force them to read by bashing their head, in this sequence.
I love this comment 🤣
Heimdall approves
Poseidon agrees.
breaking a neck is honestly the easier way out than gouging an eye and bashing a head
I love the bow she gave him. A form of respect.
Honour among warriors is something Kratos embodies, Kratos realised that the elves are honourable people and that he had made a mistake thinking of them as unimportant.
This bow after defeat proves that they are an honourable people with respect, dignity and humility, all things Kratos admires and strives for.
Because of this Kratos probably believes there is hope for them after all.
gives mantis lord vibe
Glad Kratos is changing man. I love when people change for the better
Agree, knowing this we should release all genocidal mass murderers from jail tbh.
There's a Kratos in them all. :)
@@coffeepot3123 We just gotta give them each an Atreus, Mimir, and Freya/Faye.

We must be better.
Ya got his 2nd wife to thank for that. She really hammered the "do not be sorry, be better" philosophy on him.
I don’t know if anyone agrees with this but Kratos in this game is top tier. This is a man who’s made his mistakes, has improved upon them and has made incredible growth.
This version of Kratos is definitely what we should all strive to be.
This on so many levels.
The people that rage because "this isn't the real Kratos" concern me.
@@dagdamor1 my younger brother is like that. Granted we both grew up with the original games. I personally prefer this Kratos while my brother prefers past Kratos.

They most likely just miss Kratos being a rampaging monster, some people were into his destructive nature in the past games, i guess they just don't like the idea of him going soft because it isn't as satisfying to them.
“The Elves do not need protection from their history. They need access. A new chapter awaits.”
That line hits so hard on such a ridiculous metaphysical level. ._.
Thats weird, when I beat the game I could’ve sworn he said a different line.
@@sergiopirela5864 if he’s with Atreus, it’s a tad different
@@theaverageash that was probably it. I think he said something like. “We’re taking this.”
Imagine if they get the access that we did, full of lies and deception.
metaphysical really?
He’s learned from his mistake from the last game. Killing the Dark Elf general really sent the realm into further chaos, even before fimbulwinter. Killing the Maven would have meant the library was vulnerable for raids, or even worst destroying the records that show how moot the civil war was.
There are two bosses where the glory kill button doesn't kill them, and I was shocked and delighted both times.

i’m just as impressed that somebody decided to fight Kratos and actually accepted his mercy
Easily one of the best fights in the game. It “flowed” different than other fights, she’s more disciplined, more strategic. When I was playing I was begging kratos to “let this one go” under my breath , then he throws her weapon back to her and she bows slightly ….ughh so beautiful . If you’ve competed in any sort of combat sport at any kind of high level you knew exactly what this was. Sometimes words are not needed

@@phantom7958 how is he lesser?
@@phantom7958 is not lesser LOL. He beats the hell out of Thor at end of the game and is not easy achievement .
I notice old Kratos makes less damage around him compared with young Kratos who destroyed whole Greece. Doesn't want to make same mistake on Midgard
@@phantom7958 agreed, I like this version of Kratos but I miss the brutality with which he dealt with his foes. I mean have you seen how he kills the centaurs now? He used to rip their guts out, he is a softy now.
@@markhunter3533 He swapped out unnecessarily long Brutality for quicker and more efficient kills, I don’t think that makes him a softie.
Besides all of that was when he was a monster that Ares transformed him into, and when he was half-enraged and half-insane from overwork, broken promises, and constant nightmares.

@@xeox4280 It is character development. Kratos's characterization in the new games is built off of how he was in the original games.
@@cynicalmemester1694 no its not. Maybe in gow 2018 but not in ragnarok
@@xeox4280 Yes it is. He sacrifices himself for the sake of humanity and unleashes the power of hope, shows love and care for his family and shows glimpses of empathy and conflict throughout the games.
In 2018, he shows mercy for his enemies and considerable restraint of his anger, confronts Atreus for being rude to Sindri, shows respect and care for people (Freya, the ghost captain and to an extent Mimir).

When the librarian ask you for the late fees on the books you borrowed.
Truly an interesting and strangely intimate moment when someone two enemies come to terms in such a manner
One of the very few people who fought Kratos and lived.
When I did this fight I almost died and then suddenly it just stopped, I wasn’t expecting that
you were doing the fight as the elf ?
You were playing the elf?
Apparently, the light elves speak Swedish or Icelandic. I google translated the line she says and it came up as either lmao.
Kratos promoting literacy.
That......was surprisingly unexpected
like Kratos said are always consequences for killing people and is last resort if is no way to make peace
Seriously her swords are so fucking cool
It’s so satisfying to see a protagonist realize their mistakes, accept them, and try to change.
Love the warrior lady's helmet design.
It's surreal to see such a night and day difference. The old Kratos would have cut her arms off with her own weapon before shoving the blade through her head and telling her to fuck off.
We’re so proud of you, Kratos!
"I do not wish to make the same mistake twice"
In the past, Kratos has made a mistake by killing the Dark Elf king, the war is for the balance, the guarantee of both sides to seek the true balance.
But what he did was killing them and it was a "Grave Mistake"
Sure glad that *LACERATING A STOMACH WITH A GIANT BLADE* doesn't "end" the elves.
*Because Kratos learns from his mistakes*
Learning from one's mistake is indeed very chad.
That dialogue between him and the elf must change depending if you're in the post game bit;
cause if atreus is around he'll say how his kid might want to read the book he took.
It's not just the postgame. I did this bit right after freeing Freya from her curse.
The change from him in god of war 1 to this lol!
Totally different response from Kratos when Atreus was with him, 🤯!
I like how the light elves look like they have the rig from Dead Space on their backs
One of my favorite moments in the game.
I must say that elf's blades look really cool
For anyone else wondering what she said. The translation from google is "Light Fairies...Don't know...Piles broken inside."
He came along way if he was his old self that Maven wouldn’t even get a chance to say anything lol
If Kratos was his old self, the only sounds that we would heard from Maven would be the sound of her head bashing against wall/ground. Or the sound of Blades of Chaos ripping through her nody, as he would violently stab her again and again and again.

He was a bit out of line though. He didn’t even apply for a library card. How’d he expect to check out a book?

Kratos doesn’t bother you unless you get in his way.
After my 3rd death, I spawned outside of the place and Kratos and Atreus had their lines after the battle. I went back inside, walked around, then on the way back the boss respawned. I was laughing.
I was hoping theres gonna be a circle above the elf head 😏

The God of Calm and Reasonability
That Kratos Growth is crazy I clapped when I heard that.
Kratos become someone more wiser
To think in the original games Kratos killed a man because he didn't want to read a book for him.
Everyone says their impress here but I don’t think everyone realizes that the enemy doesn’t usually surrender to Kratos not to mention he doesn’t understand some of their languages
Old Kratos kills civilians if it means he's one step closer to his goals. There were many scenes in the old games where he has to murder people and use their corpses just to get from one place to the other. I don't think the maven was surrendering but was merely trying to talk before it dies. But since Kratos actually held back, the maven knew it was being spared.
from god of war to peace maker kratos really change i want have mentallity like him
This boss gave me more trouble than Heimdall
The light and dark elves are bueatiful and amazing beings that used to be innocent they dont deserve war or death no matter....
I see the player approach the elf and waiting for for R3 to appear
Not many beings can say that they fought the god of war, and lived to tell the tail.
It’s nice that someone finally has the brains to realize that Kratos won’t wreck you if you ain’t talking shit and just step aside
muh queen
At least Kratos got to let off some steam by killing Heimdall.
Kratos in the other games: i gonna kill everyone.
In this game: ...
This boss was a pain so I’m surprised as well 😂
Kratos you do realize you destroyed Greece by what you did to that pantheon? So this wouldn't have been the second time you made this mistake, more like the 50th
Because he spared her maybe to make freya secretly jealous and pressing circle ⭕ on her 😂
Kratos'ways to impress women : destroying enemies but sparing their lives at the end
I'm impressed too actually, It's not everyday you see a Dual-blade weilding Librarian
This is the most tame I personally have ever seen kratos. It felt... Outta character. 🤣
If you played Ragnarok directly after GoW3.
It got me off guard too, but I’ll take it as a sign of character growth.
Growth 🔥🔥😎 honestly this gow title teaches a lot about growth and letting go
You forgot about the LATE FEES! *Fight music swells*
Missed this since i went in with atreus later on
greek gods : WHY NOT ME?
Hey, Kratos didn't kill Afrodita. In fact, I think the only option was to "smash" her or something.
Apart from the already stated reasoning in this video, I think Kratos also had learned from the previous game that hiding the truth was not the right way of protecting something or someone.
To this day, I don’t feel bad about killing the dark elf from the first game. He attacked first and died because of it so that’s on him.
She act like he ain’t try to not kill Baldur 5 times
Kratos rlly facilitating aweakenings
Hiding hystory leaves us bl8nd. Let them see the ugly, how far they have come. Let them learn and continue to grow.
