  • I picked up this vintage Briggs and Stratton engine on ebay for small money, and set about getting a handle on what it needs to run, and what the general condition is like. Join me in my garage to find out will it run?

    Good to see young men interested in these old engines!

      Thanks! I'll take the compliment! I'm actually 37 but I have always been fascinated by them.

    I would check compression,before going any further.

    Great video.
    I’m at exactly the same place as you at the end.
    My son and I are working on a 1972 VW Beetle too.
    Today he was working on the VW and I was working on the old B&S 2hp horizontal shaft with no spark.
    BTW I have broken a vane before. I used JB Weld to put it back.

    I remember back in the mid 70s my Dad had a cement mixer with one of those engines. Would only run on half choke. Did ok because he used it to build a house.

      Funny, I wouldn't have thought it was powerful enough for a cement mixer, but I suppose for a small one it would have been grand.

    I bet a new spark plug would get it going.

      It does actually run, but the plug gets fouled up in short order.

    Hi great video! I am restoring one myself right now, it is on an old rotavator (landmaster L120) I bought earlier this year and have been using it over the summer. It is running, but is a bit unstable especially in idle, so now I will give a service and cleanup. Can anyone help with the exact name of the engine, and / or a link to a service manual? It will help me ordering new parts! Thanks, Chr.

      It's called a Briggs & Stratton 60100. I bought a lot of my parts from briggsbits.co.uk.

    Were is the kill switch have same motor only white but can't seem to get spark how do I know my magneto is good with no spark

    • @Endfloat
      @Endfloat  3 года назад

      There's a wire that goes from the coil to the carb. Disconnect that and see if you get a spark.

    • @tyleroleary222
      @tyleroleary222 3 года назад

      @@Endfloat ya there's not a wire that goes to the carb two wires go behind the flywheel and one ground to the magneto

    • @Endfloat
      @Endfloat  3 года назад

      One wire is to the points behind the flywheel. The other one is the kill wire. Check your points first, make sure there's no stray grounds and disconnect any other wires other than the one that goes to the points and condenser. It's unlikely your mag is faulty. It's more likely the points.

    It looks like that engine has been through hell and back are you going to restore it like the lister?

    • @Endfloat
      @Endfloat  4 года назад

      It's very grubby externally but looking down into the cylinder it actually looks very clean in there, but yes it will be getting stripped and rebuilt. I want to try and get it running first.

      I did think that but it's a strange sort of residue for a mouse to leave.
