I don't know why, but it makes me extremely happy that they chose a gay actress to play Alison. It seems as if she has more of an emotional connection with the character and makes it closer(yet this could also be my opinion)
I think they did it intentionally. Her sexuality being such a central point of the narrative makes it crucial that the actor actually understand some of what their character is going through.
I love this video. As a longtime Alison B. fan and a theater person, it makes me really happy that Beth Malone is playing this role, and now I admire her even more, knowing some of the challenges she's lived through. (It also makes me think once again about how lucky I am, to have had the parents I did, in so many ways.)
***** I'm sure a production will come to the UK, but unless you get the entire original US cast when a musical transfers, you won't get to see *this* production. Obviously, good material will survive and thrive when new actors play the roles, but there's something very special about these three Alisons (Beth Malone, Emily Skeggs, Sydney Lucas), plus Michael Cerveris and Judy Kuhn as Bruce (father)and Helen (mother). Long way of saying, if you're planning a trip to NYC, get tickets to "Fun Home," and do it soon.
Mr. Wontorek, thank you so much for putting this piece together. Brought even more meaning to the most meaningful theatrical experience I've ever had. I've sent this video to a number of friends as a stand-alone piece about art, life, and humanity. Sounds cheesy, sorry. But, thank you.
"What an amazing grasp of the obvious you have, sir." Lol
I could listen to her talk all day. She has such perfect diction without it sounding unnatural. She speaks so nicely.
Couldn't have said it better myself
I hope this does not sound prejudice but lesbians have excellent diction for some reason. Maybe it’s just the ones that I know
Loved hearing her talk about this story. This is why we need LGBT+ actors playing LGBT+ roles.

Sam Thym you are so right. As a gay woman, it means so much and I feel so represented

This needs to come to the UK, I'm completely in love with the story and soundtrack and I wish it would come here so I could see it in person!

It's in the UK atm at the old vic!
I could watch this interview a million times. It feels even more important now that the show has closed. This story isn't over.
She has a pretty speaking voice. idk if that sounds weird but she does.
amberfirexx9 That's not weird at all. She could be a yoga teacher with that voice.
She's such a kind hearted person. I was lucky enough to meet her when I saw her in Fun Home and she was SO. INCREDIBLE.
I saw Fun Home today Beth was amazing

“What an amazing grasp of the obvious” YESSSSS OMG I LOVED THIS😂🥰🥰
She seems absolutely phenomenal. What a great show.
Rewatching because this is the best.
This show is brilliant, and because of Beth Malone's life experience, I can't imagine that anyone will ever play Big Al better than she does.
Can she pls record an audio book
Fascinating. Gosh I wish I could see this play on stage. Today. ;0)
Her bike lock is called OnGuard!!! Like if you get it 😊 hint: it's in the song come to the fun home and John says this line

I've been harassed for the obvious too. I finally realize that they're just oblivious! They're just telling me the obvious!
omg im beth malone
Girly girl does not mean GAY or BISEXUAL.
She still seemed tomboy to me in the end even if she was meant to transform
DSM Productions (official) *butch
@@tape-6 they are similar. Both could work in that sentence, I think.
lol! nothing wrong being a girl girl lol!
beth, when we put on lipstick and eyelashes we are drag queens. all women, of all persuasions. straight women have to pretend to like it.
