しばらく音楽活動から離れていたエルヴィスが、自らの音楽的ルーツであるブラックミュージックへの情熱を呼び起こされ歌手としての復帰を決意し、企画されたTVライブ特番「68 カムバック・スペシャル」。
解禁された映像には、ライブ特番で自らのメッセージを込めた「If I Can Dream」（楽曲邦題：「明日への願い」）を披露するエルヴィスの姿が映し出される。若き敏腕ディレクターのスティーヴ・ビンダーとタッグを組み、数日間に渡る収録の末に制作された本番組は、放送が始まると、全米瞬間視聴率は70％超え！自分の歌いたい曲、愛する音楽を届けるという強い想いの元、最高のライブパフォーマンスを披露し、一瞬にして、まさに全米が見守る中、完全復活を果たす。
しかし、放送のさなか、ロバート・ケネディ大統領の暗殺が報じられる。キング牧師の暗殺も同年に起こるなど、アメリカ国民の心に不安が広がる中でエルヴィスは、マネージャーのパーカー大佐の反対を押し切り特番のフィナーレとして、この楽曲を披露する。エルヴィスを演じた
オースティンの神がかりな演技も相まって、感動必死の映像となっている。
社会の分断が各所で進む当時の激動のアメリカ社会において、なぜ人々がひとつになれないのか、なぜわかりあえないのかと訴えるプロテストソングとなった本楽曲。現代にも通じる愛と平和のメッセージに涙が滲み、思わず胸が熱くなる。幼いころからブラックミュージックに触れ、そのすばらしさをどの白人より早く強く伝え続けてきたエルヴィスにしか歌えない特別な想いも込められている。また、当時のエルヴィスと演じるオースティン・バトラーの瓜二つと言っても過言ではない渾身のパフォーマンスも要注目の映像となっている。
そして本シーンに涙する観客も多いようでSNS 上では、「とにかく一貫して音楽を愛し音楽に愛された人だというのが伝わってきて、カムバックのラストは特に泣けた。」「色々考えさせられ、涙が出た。牧師の“世の中が危険な時は 歌に託せ”という言葉が忘れられない。」「今日本でも色々な事件が起こってる現状が映画と沢山重なって泣けた」などの声が相次いでいる。

このシーン、本当に感動した…。
このシーン、まるで本当にエルヴィスが目に前の画面で歌っているような感じがして、ファンを席捲し熱中させ、死してもなお伝説と語り継がれる意味がわかったような気がしました。
このシーン見た時の感動は忘れない

辛そうで嬉しそうな息遣いが良い
12歳位から始まった長い俳優のキャリアの中でなかなか大きな仕事に恵まれてこなかった彼にとって、この映画で役者生命を掛けたかのような彼の情熱が溢れてきて感動の余り涙が出てきました。

エルビスの事は大して評価してもいなかったけど、記念館になっていたグレースランドに行きそこで彼の短編映像で流れたこの曲で涙が溢れてしかたなかった。歌詞の単語は聞き取れるはずもないのに心に伝わってきた。
映画の字幕で訳詞観て、映像と大音響で流れたエルビスの歌のメッセージはやっぱり正しく感じていたことがわかって又感動。 誰が何と言おうと彼は不世出のロックシンガーであり表現者。心に直接届く歌が歌えるなんてすごいことだよ。
エルビスも大佐も苦労人だと思います。才能や人気や成功をやっかむひとはどこにもいますが彼は本物のスター、本物の大歌手だと思います。

Yes, the director has made this film a true work of ART!! It is beautiful on the big screen. I love the colors, montages, editing, flow of the film. I've seen it 10 times now. Alot of young people are enjoying this movie. It's wonderful.

腰ふったから売れたのでなく哥がうまいから売れたのだ。ラストステージもゴスペル偉大なる神、マイウェイ、アメリカの祈り、知りたくないのとか、かつこよくて歌唱力スゴい、エンタテイナーとして最高の曲も聞きたかった見たかった。
「好きにならずにはいられない」と「明日への願い」は日本人の感性にとてもフィットしている。これらの曲が我が友人を皆Elvisの虜にした。今回この映画の中で一番好きな「君を信じたい」が当然あるものと思っていたが残念だった。然しそれ以上に見事なオースティンのエルビスの研究心と情熱には、よくぞここまで！と豪く感激したものでエルビス似の物まねタレント以上だった。私はストーリー性よりもアクションにどれほどの差があるのかと集中した。「ポークサラダアニー」の腰と片や腕、要は全身の動きの流れ、全てが彼そのものであった。「明日への願い」の腕を上下に振るシーンは何故か新鮮に映った。最後の「アンチェインメロディー」曲中のオースティンからエルビスに入れ替わるシーンはまた感動的でありElvisと1つになっていた。
マジでボヘミアンより傑作だった。ありがとうバズラーマン。

This song made me feel a little bit about Elvis' real heart and soul when he faced such a historically turbulent times in American history in the 60s. It has been always a question why there were no black people in his concert and tours. King loves all people.
In his concerts and recordings , it was either The Blossoms or The Sweet Inspirations backing him. The line-up of Black singers (1969-1977) included Judy Guions (who later became Judy Clay), Marie Epps, Larry Drinkard, Nicholas Drinkard, Ann Moss, Lee and Emily. (See, I Will Always Love You).
Although Elvis refrained from public politics, he showed his desire for reconciliation by his choice of musicians. And he made sure the girls were treated with respect.

But even in 70s of Elvis concerts, no black Americans there. I know that Elvis did not have any kind of racial prejudice and treated all peoples equally with respect and love. We heard those adorable stories from his former house keeper and cooker and etc. Recently, I got to know that one of members of Sweet Inspiration - back singers was a mother of Whitney Houston, Cissy. You should know this! I watched Elvis two times now and found new feelings and more.
