Thank you. I came back to XIV just yesterday to my old DRG character from 2014. Trouble is, I had a motorcycle crash in the meantime that left my hand pretty mangled, so now I have to use a controller. Your upload is very helpful. Cheers man.
I'm so sorry to hear about your crash, and I'm very glad you're ok, and welcome back to FFXIV. If you need anything just let me know, and I'm glad that I was able to help out with this video in some way :)
I am not done with the video, but I had to comment that its pretty smart to use the floating hotbars to display the rotation if you're learning the job. I won't need it for DRG, but I'll definitely keep that in mind when I start learning my next job!!!
thanks so much for this video, DRG is my favorite class in all final fantasies, but I was definately finding it tough once i made the switch to controller. This guide helped restore my love... your videos are great!
Whenever I take on a new job, this is the first guide I come to. Been using his controller and hud layouts for years now. Absolutely superb and extremely informative. Keep up the great work!
Its always cool to see how different my controller setup is compared to other people's. Its nice to try what other people do as sort of a base line and a adapt it for yourself. You definitely gave me some cool ideas for how to move some abilities around to make it flow better
Great guide! I noticed when trying your Jump, dip & dive macro that if Geirskogul is ready and you spam the button it will activate before Mirage Dive potentially messing up activation of Life of the Dragon. I think it might be because Geirskogul takes priority in activation coming out of Jump. Still works great if not spammed or if Geirskoguls cooldown readies a few seconds later, but I'm sure there are some smart people who could edit the macro to delay Geirskogul in the activation order. Thought I'd mention it. It's definitely staying on my hotbar though! Good video as always :)
Welcome and glad you found it. We've changed up how work to game functions and made it a primarily discussion channel, so I've taken my controller guides (and other videos) and brought them over here. :)
I'm at level 60 and this is great news to have definitely coming back to video once I max DRG build unless you got an updated version for the Endwalker expansion
I play on controller as well and these videos are really fun for me to watch cause I get to see just how differently a job can be controlled and still function the same. Keep up the good work man!!
im level 60 and ive been really confused about how to manage my skills without having to switch to mouse constantly, this definitely helped me out! now i dont have to worry about where to cram my future skills lol
As a lvl 47 this has helps but I still find myself overwhelmed. I'm just now finding out about rotations lmao and everytime I go to play Instead of playing & Leveling up doing quest or practicing rotatione I end up tweaking my hud & xb's for hours & then move to crafting until I fall asleep or check out in the inn 😄
For summoner late game spell speed macros don’t lose you much dps, because the only thing you might be ever late for is a spam bolt. With weaving ogcd’s with macros, it’s never been an issue at all
The whole macro thing was boss... And also brain-melting for me 🤣 But at lv40 I'm already starting to see how I need a way of using less buttons for more actions. Otherwise I'm killing myself trying to remember too much. So this has given me a lot to think about as I get further into the game.
I recently got back to the game and bought the lvl 70 dragoon cause my main was PLD, so I was pretty confused but wanted to try dps. This helps a lot cause I agree, there was way to many skills to keep track of lol.
Any chance we’ll be getting an updated one of these for Endwalker? Just came back to the game after 2 years away and figured now would be the perfect time to try a new class (always played tanks before but wanted to try a dps for a change), I’ve always loved the way Dragoons look during fights with their jumps but was always discouraged trying to figure out a comfortable way to set up their cross hotbar.
Yes, DRG is just at level 81 right now, so it won't be tomorrow, but I'll try to publish an update as soon as I can. Welcome back to FFXIV by the way :)
Hey amazing video! I know this is super late but I’m trying to understand why you have “ Jump dip dive” and “Oh you know” when they are the same macros
Unless I'm missing it where did you put Limit break on the many Hotbars? If not how does one activate it without it being on a hotbar? Thanks in advance for answering. :] Have a fantastic day Ginger.
Yes, been working on updating them, got a playlist for them if you're looking for anything specific. I finished leveling DRG to 90 and am still testing/working on the guide
@@GingerPrimeGaming Woah! Didn't expect a response but I'm so glad! Do take your time. I love your guides because of how you take advantage of everything on the controller :D
New to FF. Didn't even know when I got the game it could be played with a controller, and this is the first place that came up on the search for a guide. I do apologize if this was covered, but in final fantasy, when it comes to the controller settings, is there such a thing as a loadout? The reason I ask is that I am following much of what you are doing, to the extent my head doesn't blow up. The problem I am having right now is that while the bottom cross bar (I have two) keeps the talents specific to the character I am using, the top bar doesn't change. The dragoon is the main character for me. But I do want to play others, and right now I don't know how to put talents in that top bar without having to screenshot what i had so I can put the other ones back after I switch again. Fantastic guide. Well, what I could understand.
Great questions, welcome to ffxiv and to the channel. So loadouts work in the game and they're called gearsets, you can also set hotbars to shared or per job, and if this guide doesn't do that for you, check the channel page for the controller guide playist where I have the ultimate controller guide and I go into a ton of debth with it. I'll see if I can find you the playlist link.
Not sure what I’m doing wrong here. Started from default, followed exactly but my hot bar 3 shows random abilities and I can’t seem to figure out how to change them to show the cds like in the video. Any suggestions?
This is pretty useful. Can all of your layouts be used on the ps version? About to hit 30 and just trying to get my bearings on how I should be thinking about button maps via controller.
Yes, this works for pc/playstation. If you don't have a mouse for playstation use the virutal mouse mode (L1 + R3 i believe) to turn your right stick into a mouse and your left trigger and right trigger into left and right click :)
I cant understand macros though. If I set up a jump macro like you have, will it use jump, mirage dive, geirskogul etc in succession automatically or will I have to press the macro button each time a new skill needs is ready? If macros do things automatically for you then that's gonna help me so much, i struggle in dungeons trying to flip through pages to find my cooldowns. I wanna be able to set my normal rotations up and be able to press a macro to use the jump combo.
I like your guides but your macro for Jump doesn't allow for the delay for life of the dragon which is one of the most crucial things when maximizing the dps on dragon
Correct you shouldn’t use macros if you are trying to squeeze every last bit of dps out of the job. But for me, this is the only way I found enjoyable to play dragoon
Macros as a rule are a dps loss in most cases being that they don't get put into the "queue" for skills. That's why ogcds work better as a macro then a GCD, so they should be evaluated by the player on a case by case basis.
@@GingerPrimeGaming Well from what I got told even the switching of hotbars as you press a macro with an action and the switch is a dps loss. The hotbar change sounds more reasonable than stacking Ogcd's but it still is one......it would make so much so much easier......then again it should not matter much in most content but to me as a raider? often times it's not an option.....shame really
Hi I found ur video to be really useful I’m new to ffxiv and so far I’m really enjoying playing as a dragoon idk if I’m any good at it tho I feel like I fall out in some of my rotations lol 😅. Howdy and welcome to FFXIV. For PS4 you’ll want to press L1 + R3 to go into virtual mouse mode and then your right stick will be a mouse courser and your left and right triggers act as a left and right click. From here pull you your actions and drago the cool downs you want into the bar
So I’m a little new to Macros- I set mine up like yours for the Jump macro. Oftentimes I’ll press the button once and it won’t do the next action available and I end up needing to press it twice but other times it triggers right away. Any idea?
