The Rise and Rise of DJ Spoony

- Johnathan Joseph aka DJ Spoony is one of the UK's biggest success stories in the world of House & Garage. He worked his way up through the ranks of resident DJ to headliner, from Pirate radio to nationwide shows on the Galaxy network and finally onto the BBC. He is officially in the realms of 'The Celebrity' with untold TV appearances on more shows than I can actually remember and was even recognised in the 2023 New Years Honours list.
Those are just a few of his accolades. More importantly than all of the above (to me at least) is the fact that he's a really nice bloke and someone I've called a friend for over 25 years.
As he prepares to kick off his very own 'House Full of Garage' Weekender at Butlin's, we have a chat about anything and everything that springs to mind.

This was a great interview, man.
Big up and big respect to Spoony. What a story, career and quite clearly, good person.
What a brilliant interview! And what a career Spoony has had to date!!! I’m sure there’s plenty more stories to come, as I could listen to Spoony talk for hours!!!
I agree. Fascinating stuff.
Great video, followed Spoony since his UKG days and great to see how he has stayed relevant and climbed so high in his career. Well done Jonathan. Keep the great interviews coming Andy.
Thanks for watching and the kind words
Great stuff Andy & Johnathan ❤
Thank you sir
I recently tuned in to the interview "Inspired and be Inspired" between two legendary people, Dj Spoony and Andy Ward, and I have to say it was a kaleidoscope of a conversation between two friends and DJs in their own right, representing their hometown and UK Garage music. As someone who appreciates a good interview, I found this one particularly interesting and relatable.
One of the things that stood out to me was how fondly Dj Spoony spoke about having to do his chores before being allowed to go out and do his own thing. This showed that he had a strategy, focus, and forward thinking from a young age, which is something I truly admire. It's clear to see why he could be a mentor or counsellor to young people who are trying to figure out their own path in life.
Throughout the interview, it was evident that Dj Spoony and Andy had a deep level of respect for each other despite their different backgrounds. They shared some comical stories about their younger days, and it was interesting to hear how they both got started in the music industry. Hearing Dj Spoony talk about how his mum made sure that the kettle lead was back in the house before he went out did make me chuckle, especially as my mum would know if I did that 😅.
Another thing that stood out for me was when Dj Spoony spoke about receiving the British Empire Medal (BEM) and why it was so important to him. His answer showed that he is not only a talented DJ but also a thoughtful and compassionate person who cares about making a positive impact in his community, music industry, and himself.
Overall, I thought the interview was well-done and engaging, and it left me with a deeper appreciation for Dj Spoony and his contributions to the music industry. Thank you, Andy. I am really enjoying these interviews. 👏🏽😍👏🏽
Thank you. This interview definitely did have it all, for me. Appreciate you always taking time to check them out and to reply at length.
@djandyward I appreciate the work and effort it takes to do your RUclips channel, and I enjoy the content 😊.
