“Although not a follower of [sample reversed]/She’s a former devout Branch Davidian.” If you flip the sample back to its original state, it reveals the name David Koresh, who was the leader of the Branch Davidian cult in Waco, Texas. The time on the track comes in at 4:19, which coincidentally was the date the Waco compound was torched.

They are referring to Amo Bishop Roden: “Although not a follower of [sample reversed]/She’s a former devout Branch Davidian.” The EP "In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country" is about the Davidian sect and the second track in it is called "Amo Bishop Roden."

Boards of Canada reminds me of my first years of life, watching early cartoons or shows in the 2000's. Specially the Power Rangers. When I was 14 I made a music video to this song using MGI Videowave, a very clunky piece of software from the early 2000s, my mom's old Sony camera and a Dell running Windows ME that crashed constantly. I no longer have that video sadly, but it was fun being a teenager, finding out new music through word of mouth and making videos with friends.

Second solar eclipse of my lifetime and the last. When it got dark and the streetlights came on at work, I felt chills. Boards of Canada is the only artist that can capture the way I felt in that moment when the moon finally went completely over the sun. It felt like I was on another planet in that moment. My co workers were in awe as we all stood out there wearing our eclipse glasses. It all felt so ethereal.

I find this especially eerie as I have a bizarrely early memory of being in my 1st year of life (1969) and looking up from my pram at sunlight flittering through the leaves of trees above me, in our first family home. I think an investing element of BoC (and, I suppose, some other artists, although I find BoC most noticeable and enjoyable in this regard possibly due to their outside sampling and electronic aspects) is how listening to the music at different speeds or directions gives different moods and atmospheres: I personally believe that watching at 1.5x speed provides a kind of thumping and imposing beat compared to a kind of gradually seeping-in and coating sensation of the unchanged track.

It's interesting how a melodic song named after a year on the surface can have such a dark rabbit hole beneath it

    "from the OOR interview:
'"1969 in the sunshine" (from: 1969). What memory is that? Woodstock? A yellowed picture of your parents? A collective memory that fits your music?' 'Mike: In that song it refers to a specific period in the history of a religious group, and at the same time the period in general, the hopefulness of a forward-thinking generation that wasn't aware of what was coming in their collective future.'"
