A video compilation highlighting the severe thunderstorms that affected most of the island of Montreal, but especially the East end. Laval and closely surrounding locations also received the thunderstorm cluster particularly significantly, especially with the straight-line winds involved. Thunderstorms began to be seen during the early-afternoon, but the storms that affected the island were first seen in the distance by 5:35 p.m. Temperatures attained 29 C before thunderstorms affected the area. Severe thunderstorms occurred for a second day in a row.
Thunderstorms organized into a small line that produced a very defined shelf cloud to the NW. Thunderstorms formed ahead of a passing primary cold front (the first cold front was involved with the late-evening thundersstorms the previous day), along with additional lift supplied by favorable positive vorticity advection associated with a shortwave trough. In addition, there had been significant jet stream divergence due to a jet streak. Due to copious solar heating earlier in the day, low-level lapse rates became steep, and the line formed within a narrow zone of mid-level lapse rates of 6 C/km to the NW. Dewpoints were 17-18 C before and during thunderstorm initiation. SBCAPE/MLCAPE were both on the order of 500-1000 J/kg. Shearing profiles were largely unidirectional (weak boundary layer helicity, partly due to modest moisture transport at the 850 mb level), and dry mid-level air, which helped to increase the risk of strong convective gusts and small to medium-sized hail (which was observed in sections of the East end).
Footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal’s West Island.

The birds are like" OH HELL NAHH IM OUTA HERE"
I was at Ikea that day and before the storm started, there was a huge amount of wind that almost made me fly when I was walking in the parking lot
TheFawziTube I can hear that wind for sure!
Excellent! As always, thank you for posting this, with all the explanations. Instructive! I tried to watch the storm from home, but the view from my window was not that great. I'm glad to be able to see this beast approach in your video!
Always a pleasure, GhossstWriter, and I thank you for your viewing! Indeed, what a treat it was to watch this advance!
Cool video... I love watching storms
That does not look like a severe thunderstorm. I have been through so many of these kinds of storms in Texas.
The way u showing with radar imagery! I loved it! :)
Amazing video! What a beautiful shelf, I haven't seen one like that in a little while
Tornado
Very impressive shelf cloud and strong outflow.
That's a supercell. not just a ordinary thunderstorm
Weak supercell
i love the howling wind its so relaxing :)
amazing shelf cloud !!
Yes, it had a magnificent structure!
Aewsome vid- and i always seem to find so many faces in the storm clouds is it just me ???
It's not just you. :) Thank you for your comment!
pissing myself running , that aint a severe thunderstorm atall
That is a bad stom?
Deba Mason does it look bad to you?
Severe thunderstorm warning
Looks awesome
Nothing compared to the storms in the U.S.
This is just watering the plants..
While in U.S. it's blowing your house away!
Hi Ghistian Pitre,
Thank you for your comment.
This thunderstorm was much stronger than what is shown in the video, as the thunderstorm's core only narrowly missed my area. In reality, it produced very strong straight-line winds that led to numerous power failures, and downed trees, as well as remove shingles from rooftops.
I love severe storms!
Same here lol I love to go outside and watch it
YUNANİSTAN 😈😈😈😈😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠🇹🇷🇦🇿
The storm that never came..
Amazing shelf cloud structure... ❤
You posted this on my birthday cooooool
Then your birthday is very close to my own! :)
Have a happy [very late] birthday~
Dani Gurl my birthday 🎂 is coming next month. In 1 month. I will be 23 years old next month
You were in the front seat! West Island and facing the storm
Yes, it was quite something to watch the storm structure with this event from the West Island!
Nice capture 👍🏻
We caught some of that storm here in northern NY. I was alerted to it by Canadian tv from Montreal.
Yes, I remember a few separate thunderstorms affecting Northern New York at the time.
normal y es tormenta aislada,no generalizada, igual muy lindo el video, saludos
That’s one mean looking sky!💥

Me too!😣😣😣😣
I LOVE THUNDERSTORMS SOOOO MUCH
GREAT vid!! Any tornado warnings with this storm? Some of those hang-down black clouds looked mighty ominous!! Speaking of tornadoes, are there any warning sirens?
Thank you for your comment!
No tornado warnings with this thunderstorm, but there was damage induced due to strong straight-line winds. While we do not have tornado sirens installed, the warnings are provided and disseminated through Environment Canada's severe warning system. At some point, I would imagine that sirens would be installed.
I hope so; anyplace where tornadoes are possible should have a siren. I don't know why so many places don't. Here in Minnesota's Twin Cities, we have our sirens tested the first Wednesday of every month at 1PM.
Yes, I agree. We do have a bit of a tornado alley here in S. Quebec, and although tornado frequency is considerably less than in the U.S., tornado sirens should still be compulsory. A new study also revealed that much more tornadoes than the current national climatology may occur in Canada, since many tornadoes may go unnoticed. This is especially true farther North, where populations are much sparser.
Well, there are several towns and cities in the US that don't have a siren-warning system. The excuse is that there are phone apps and weather radios that can "sufficiently" provide warnings, but it's not taken into consideration there are people who do not have phone apps or weather radios or that you may be in a location where your phone wouldn't work and there's no weather radio available!! From what I understand, installing siren systems takes a huge bite out of the federal budget, and, truth be told, money often comes before safety!

Nice video, and nice shelf!
Why such high dislike/like ratio??
Thank you so much for your comment!
As for the unexpected high number of dislikes, it is quite curious.
Cheers,
Perhaps it is because they don't get to the video part. The footage is quite awesome, but they probably had short attention span :)
I don't know if anyone else noticed but at the time of 3:43 I saw what looked like little lights flying from right to left in the Storm cloud's maybe it was something from her phone camera but it was pretty cool looking check it out
Hi Debra,
What you are seeing there is a faint flash of lightning in the rain shaft. :)
@@Rain1290 it's not lightening these look like little ball's of light moving from left to right and one looks almost like it's moving kinda upward
@@Rain1290 my bad I got the time wrong on it it's at 3:26 start to look from 3:11 on and see if u can see tiny little ball's of light
@@debraslattery4152 - Yes, it's faint, but I believe I see what you are referring to. I think that could be an artifact of camera flicker.
You`re making more noise than the storm.
What are the noises that the camera (?) or maybe the videographer is making?
