This was Val and Bobby's first interaction with each other since Lucy's wedding in 1981 and the first since Bobby "died" and Val named her infant son after him.
You can't be and marry so many times with someone like Garry, only If you are just like him..with no ptinciples, no good values, someone who betrayes like he breads..so..they deserve each other...
The final scene between Valene and Sue Ellen was why I was excited for a third season. I was disappointed that it never happened. Val and Sue Ellen had 40 years of water underneath that bridge.
It wouldn’t have made any sense, but it would have been hilarious if Abby showed up with Val. She could have looked at Sue Ellen and been like, “Oh you think you can be a manipulative bitch? You’re still in the nursery compared to me”
I always felt Valene had underlying animosity towards Sue Ellen that I wished would've played out years ago. Great scene. Love Linda Gray and Joan Van Ark. The original Ewing Wives.
Terrell Serrano Well, Sue Ellen started out as a ditzy character who didn't have much dialogue, so I doubt that she had any interaction at all with Valene. Besides, I think Gary left Southfork before 1970, when Sue Ellen married J.R. Valene was kicked out by him soon after that.
Najee Nixon clearly you've never seen the 1978-1991 series because they did have interactions with each other before. And Valene who reunited with Gary on the show has been to southfork a few times to visit Lucy and the family. And Sue Ellen was no where near ditzy at all. She was quite the bitch back then so that's not true either. The series is available on DVD if you like to see the actual happenings that took place.
Najee Nixon Gary and Valene returned to Dallas in 1978. Gary was played by David Ackroyd then. And they returned again in 1979 when the remarried before moving to Knots Landing. And they returned to Dallas in 1981 for Mitch and Lucy's wedding.
Najee Nixon I never thought Sue Ellen was ditzy, maybe a little limited on dialogue at first but not so much she was just an original desperate housewife. She had nothing really going for herself expect for being an alcoholic and sleeping with men.
Carlo Donn Sue Ellen from what I read sometime ago was only suppose to be a minor character. I don’t even think J.R was suppose to be the main focus at first, but automatically became the breakout character.
Agreed. Hagman passing away sucked the life out of NuDallas, and likely snuffed out the third season because the next gen cast had zero charisma. Jordanna Brewster is a strikingly attractive woman, but her range is limited. As far as the male members of the cast, well...even worse.
Very cool scene! Loved seeing a lil’ cattiness between the First Ewing Wives. Awesome stuff! Hated that they kept Lucy in a supporting role throughout the reboot. All these years later and she STILL can’t get a major storyline!!!
Back in the early 80s, Lucy was involve in a major storyline on Dallas. When she was thinking about getting into modeling, her photographer became obsessed with her, kidnapped and held her hostage.
Wow Joan Van Arks plastic surgery is a tad scary. Pulled waaaay too tight . Patrick Duffy and Ted Shackleford look like they are ready for Shady Pines Retirement Village . At least Linda Gray is looking awesome.
I once wrote a pilot episode for a Knots Landing reboot - I was all set to send it to CBS but was advised by an Entertainment Lawyer not to take it any further - as it'd never be commissioned. I was devastated :(
Sue Ellen was just playing the dirty trick to let Gary move on with his life, and not worry about her and getting back to being an alcoholic. She didn’t want to do, what she had done and you can see it in her face at the end. She deeply cared about everyone, and played dirty when she absolutely needed too.
This scene was supposed to be between JR and Val. That would have REALLY been badass to see Val go off on him. They should have kept her around for a few more episodes; after all, she said she wasn't going anywhere. Would have been interesting to see Sue Ellen and Val going at it at Southfork - LOL!
Thank you for putting these clips together of Joan's guest appearance on the new Dallas. I was hopeful to see more of Gary and Valene on the new Dallas. It's a shame Larry Hagman passed away before Joan made her guest appearance. The scenes between her and Larry were always gold! Side note, as a huge Knots Landing fan, I am a bit bummed that our last opportunity to see Val and Gary on screen together they are now separated. I loved how Knots Landing ended years ago with Val and Gary back together.
Actually Gary and Valene do stay together. Toward the end of Knots Landing they reconciled and remarried. That's how they were when the show ended many years ago. During the Dallas reboot, Gary shows up at his family's home after he and Valene suddenly separated after many years of a happy remarriage. Gary had started drinking again and they separated briefly. After the separation, Gary shows up in Dallas and Valene shows up not long after. They were only on a couple of Dallas reboot shows. After this particular show, where you see Sue Ellen and Valene in a fight, Gary and Valene later leave Dallas together and go back to California reconciled once again. What's ironic is that in the end, Gary is the only one to reconcile with his wife and stay with her. JR and Sue Ellen and Bobby and Pam and Ray and Donna however, all got divorced.
Anybody knows why Val & Garry are apart again? & where’s Bobby & Betsy? 😂 would have been great to see an episode with all the caracteres of Dallas & Knots brought together again & see what are they doing in current time. Love both shows 💝💝💝
@@jokerz7936 that’s not really why they weren’t acknowledge. It just wasn’t necessary to acknowledge them. They were not a part of the storyline. There was no need to.
Knots Landing could use a reboot. It starts with Karen retires as a social worker and Betsy Ewing working with her for years. James Marsden plays Jason Avery as he needs money from his stepfather Greg Sumner, Sumner's current wife would be 40 years younger than him, Jessica Chastain plays singer Erin Ward (daughter of Kenny & Ginger), Bobby Ewing (son of Gary & Valene) is married to his high school sweetheart and has 3 kids, Hillary Duff plays Meg Sumner Mackenzie, Abby would be involved with men 30 years younger than her, Paige has a teenage son who's father will never be known, Brian Austin Green will return reprise his role of Brian Cunningham, Brian's stepdaughter Molly Whitaker will be involved frequently with Paige's son, Lisa Hartman Black will return for a few guest appearances as Cathy Geary, and Ben Stiller & Rena Sofer plays a Jewish family with 3 teenagers but the marriage is often drifting due to his frequent affair with Meg. Since Kevin Dobson & Julie Harris both died, Mack's grave is two headstones away from Sid Fairgate and Lilimae is buried right behind them.
Similar to the bizarre “Dr. Evil” transformation of Cliff Barnes, this vitriol from Val toward Sue Ellen must’ve seemed strange to original Dallas viewers, unless I missed something from “back in the day” between the two of them. I wonder if Kercheval, Gray, Van Ark, and/or others, conveyed these seemingly glaring inconsistencies to those in control of the reboot. I understand the need to attract new viewers, but some of the characters, relationships between/among characters, and even certain “set” decisions (as an example, why was the interior of Southfork completely unrecognizable to original viewers?) came across as unbalanced in the context of bringing back and sustaining loyal viewers, and attracting a new audience. The folks in control (of the reboot) likely weren’t viewers of the original series, or perhaps weren’t even yet born, during the show’s original run. Anyways, the hype leading up to the reboot was fun.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. The scene between Val and Sue Ellen is jarring as they had no history of animosity. (I'm not even sure if I can recall any scene on the "old" Dallas where Val and Sue Ellen ever exchanged any dialogue!).
@@eugenesmith5173 JR and Sue Ellen were horrible to Lucy. It was was well established on OG Dallas that JR was to blame for Val not being able to raise Lucy once Gary abandoned them. JR ran Val off and stole Lucy. In S6 when JR & Sue Ellen remarry, Lucy even refuses to attend their wedding. I think Val's animosity towards Sue Ellen is definitely on point.
@@eugenesmith5173 I heard this scene was originally written for Larry & Joan, but due to Larry Hagman's untimely death, the script was revised to involve Sue Ellen & Val.
@@MrJuly1990ish That may be true and explains the "behind the scenes" reason for this video. However, it is glaringly wrong for continuity purposes. This entire discussion is a prime example why the Dallas reboot did NOT work ---- Those in charge of the reboot had no clue about the original show. They employed some of the Dallas veteran actors as established characters and relied on the popularity of the original show to attract viewers. However, they UTTERLY FAILED to learn any of the history of the show (ex: Sue Ellen and Val had NO beef with each other on the old show ) and missed major opportunities to build on that history (ex: Where in the reboot were: James Beaumont (JR's oldest son); Jenna Wade; the now adult Lucas Krebs (the biological son of Jenna Wade and Bobby Ewing, who basically was ignored by Bobby). The reboot worked like hell to introduce new characters totally unrelated to the Ewings (the strange woman played by Judith Light and her clan; Nicholas Trevino) but forgot about potential characters with a logical, historical connection to the Ewings. The original Dallas was great, particularly in its first 8 years. I also enjoyed seeing Larry Hagman play JR for one last time as well as watching Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy. These people alone made the reboot. Beyond that, I hated the reboot. If the producer and writers weren't going to learn the history of the Ewings and use it, they had no business working on any Dallas revival. This reboot got the cancellation it readily deserved. She could play "Sharon's" mother on "The Young and The Restless"! She looks like an older version of Sharon Case! PS: I know that Joan Van Ark was the original Gloria on that show, and that Sharon already has a mother...but...anyway...lol.
Loved Val's return. I always thought one trick they missed was bringing in another Ewing..... Just imagine Abby in a guest role scheming with JR. Or turning up for his funeral. I know they weren't allowed to use her because she originated in Knots Landing but she would have been a fantastic addition to the reboot, and just imagine Gary seeing her! Or it could have been a great interaction for Lucy etc.
This scene was originally written for Jr and val Would had been great. So sad Larry passed away before he could do it. Linda does he best and is great in the scene. But her character and val really have no history together so feels odd.
Exactly. I was confused at first, too. Would have made more sense with Val and JR. I would have LOVED to see older Val tangle with JR. I can see her going after him with scissors like she did Jill Bennett. "I am NOT poor Val" - LOLOLOL!
Damn. Why do we get old? It's sad. Seeing this gives me the same feeling I got when I saw Harrison Ford in The Force Awakens. The character you're so familiar with that's never changed in your memory has in reality aged big time. It's a sad truth of life. We all age and we all die.
@@christianpaguaga5661That’s why I don’t understand their beef. They never really associated so I don’t know why Val blew off the deep end. Sue Ellen and Gary yes, they share something special…sucking on that ol’ bottle.

James Willett Lucy and Val are supposed to be about 15 years apart in age. But I think it was less of a difference in real life; because Tilton waa older than the character she played. Just catching up to them now. LOL!
They are 15 years apart in real life, but Val was 16 i believe when she gave birth to Lucy. But yes, Charlene was 19 in real life when Dallas began, even though Lucy was supposed to be 17.
@@fwdthinker no Charline is about the same age as her character Lucy. Lucy I think was meant to be 17 in the first episode and Charline was perhaps 18 so not really much of a age difference.
I've never watched the new Dallas and I don't plan on starting. This has no meaning to me. For me Knots Landing ended in 1993 with Gary and Val welcoming Abby home and Karen and Mack having a cookout while the new neighbors moved in.
I am Team Val all the way, here. Sue-Ellen was not a bad person and JR treated her appallingly - but she had no compunction in adopting his traits whenever it suited her. Furthermore, she happily stood by and allowed him to treat others just like he'd treated her and didn't bat an eyelid - doubtless that's what she did to Val when JR took Lucy off her.
No one could ever play SUE ELLEN like Linda grey she is the best
Sue Ellen always looks like money. Class and gorgeous lady

They met before though and schemed together.
Man what the hell did Joan Van Ark do to her face? She looks horrible!
Bad plastic surgery
But she look younger than Lucy in this scene.
@@Michaelahol ~ Younger in a scary, melted candle sort of way.
😂
@belle mcellis politely trolling
Is Linda Gray a time traveller?
Valene has had too much plastic surgery.
How was Joan Van Ark able to speak ? Her mouth looked so tight after all that plastic surgery.
@@fwdthinker Oh That Would've Been Great, "Poor J.R." LOL!!! 😉😉😉😉😏😏😏😏😏😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Valene needs to LAY OFF the plastic surgery!!! 😱😱😱
Maryanne WestVa lord doesn't she
Valene looks fabulous here especially for her age
Lucy looks older than her "mother"!‼️⚠️
What the hell is going on with Lucy's voice?
De que año es este capitulo ?
I love this
Bring back Knots Landing
cliff9685 YES!!!!!
I love Joan Van Ark, but what the hell happened to her face? She does not look like her former self!!!
I didn't know Dallas was still on the air..
Slaphappy one it’s not
It ended, then it was rebooted, then it ended again.
Really more of a continuation than a reboot
What’s odd is we never saw Val or Gary again after this scene! I think the writers were playing with us. And why does Lucy look as old as her mama?
Because A- Valene had plastic surgery and Lucy didnt and B- There's only 16 years between them as Val was super young when she had her.
Damn Sue Ellen looks better older. I hope I get that lucky.
Omg all this BOTOX! 😂
Damn. Why do we get old? It's sad. Seeing this gives me the same feeling I got when I saw Harrison Ford in The Force Awakens. The character you're so familiar with that's never changed in your memory has in reality aged big time. It's a sad truth of life. We all age and we all die.
You just figured hat out ??
Linda gray best actress always
Did Sue Ellen and Val ever even interact on the original “Dallas?” 🤔
Lucy's wedding
Yes in Lucy's wedding but they weren't exactly friends
@@christianpaguaga5661That’s why I don’t understand their beef. They never really associated so I don’t know why Val blew off the deep end.
Sue Ellen and Gary yes, they share something special…sucking on that ol’ bottle.
I want to say "Valene, how's Karen"?
They’ve all aged so well 😍😍
Sue Ellen reached up, grabbed the gun, emptied the bullets, wiped her prints, then handed it back to Val, all while finishing her report !! Memo to Val: this is the same woman that went toe to toe with JR for 5 decades; she can crush you watching RUclips & eating a Pop-Tart !!!
Such a shame what women do to themselves to give the experience of youth. Joan Van Ark looks very sad
Joan looks good especially considering her age
Joan van ark is stunning!
Lucy looks older than her mama. I guess Joan Van Ark has a better plastic surgeon than Charlene Tilton.
I agree Joan Van Ark looks much better than Tilton
@@fwdthinker no Charline is about the same age as her character Lucy. Lucy I think was meant to be 17 in the first episode and Charline was perhaps 18 so not really much of a age difference.
Sue Ellen always been beautiful and class. Val stop the surgery ... It's worst....
Valene..You have your own lack of equilibrium very bigg....but you don't see this, you play at "the smart in the sleepers" with others...
What a beautiful woman Linda Gray is!
I've never watched the new Dallas and I don't plan on starting. This has no meaning to me. For me Knots Landing ended in 1993 with Gary and Val welcoming Abby home and Karen and Mack having a cookout while the new neighbors moved in.
This isnt Knots Landing its Dallas. Gary and Val were originally Dallas characters before Knots Landing
SueEllens hair looked great here.
Sue Ellen and Val look good!
Was this filmed after Larry Hagman's death?
I am Team Val all the way, here. Sue-Ellen was not a bad person and JR treated her appallingly - but she had no compunction in adopting his traits whenever it suited her. Furthermore, she happily stood by and allowed him to treat others just like he'd treated her and didn't bat an eyelid - doubtless that's what she did to Val when JR took Lucy off her.
sue ellen couldn't have been married to jr all those years with out learning a dirty trick or two or three or four. lol
