This arrangement was a cornerstone of the e/music industry in the 80s. PERIOD! Far be it for me to endeavor to speak the technical language, but the minor "coloring" with other elements innundated your senses with shades of light, shadows, odors and aromas, fear, hopelessness, lust, et al in ways that the video could NEVER approach! Don't try to correct perfection! That keyboardist NAILED IT, and this cover captures the original note for note! Would love to see a time lapse fade of all instruments played in real.....wait...txt me and I'll try to record it for you, as a thank you gesture!
Agree...those strings are to die for. PSB of the 80s is my favorite band of all time. Their great skill along with great producers created a dream of music and remixes and B-sides in the 80s. If anyone could let me know what the Emulator II string patch they used, that will be great. It seems to have high attack and release times...
Robert Sullivan yeah his is a joint mutual love with EM's version. EM's is like THE master version but I love vdublu's version equally (he even sent me the MP3 of it about 5 years ago!)
@@dav1dbone I like the modern PSB too but nothing beats the classic 80's PSB and I agree...Estuary did an awesome job. I have all the extended dance remixes and B-sides of PSB that are normally even better than the originals...what a band!
What's particularly good about this is not just the accuracy of the sounds.. but your mixing. It sounds right in line with a classic SSL 9000 mix, with the right amount of buss compression. Plus the verb and gating on the drums is just spot on. Nicely done.
Some of us never left. We just added on more time and situations in different directions. Our roots go too deep in some era, and the musical soundtracks of that particular time-line.
Now that was just so smooth but yet it still gave me good memories of when music was real music, this was wonderfully done, super amazing stuff, well done, keep up the good work.
Thanks Amul. I'm part way through a video showing the constituent parts for this song like I do with my more recent uploads, as I found the midi-file on an old hard drive last year. Looking to upload that in the next couple of months.
Maybe the best possible cover, so close that it sounds like an alternate take of the original, not like a cover! And the variations made with good taste and criteria..excellent!! Please keep this coming, especially instrumentals from the first era! Suburbia album version? Love comes quickly? Heart? Whatever!! Thanks for this!!
Thank you. I recently found the midi file for this on an old hard disk (original audio files long gone), so I'm planning on making an updated 'recreation' video showing the individual sounds. the music side is now done, just need to do the video!
Anyone that has any negative remarks on this work is just not from the real world, because MAN! it is a masterpiece redone, and you should be listed as a world famous top producer! PSB could use the talent you've got for their new records. I bow and take off my hat for you sir!
Lifelong PSB fan here and if I heard this without knowing it was a cover, I’d assume it was a demo version or outtake by Chris Lowe before they did one more take for the album. It’s that good! ❤
Thanks Paul. That's the point that the EII strings come in. The JX-10 is already playing a soft synth pad / electric piano sound and I guess its just one of those happing mixing moments when two sounds just seem to gel perfectly.
If anything, this version is deeper and more spacious sounding than the original. And oddly, more authentic. Brilliant interpretation. Keep coming back to this.
After dissecting this for a day, I'd just like to add that your rendition has a sweet "Herbie Hancock" flavor which I totally dig. Thank you. This is a nice find for my collection.
I use a Steinberger 5 string fretless with phenolic fretboard and run this through effects..looking into a MOOG bass synth for it soon..its intersting to do actave slides//this was a magical song in spring 1986...
So many wonderful layers to this song. Songs nowadays dont have these kind of layers.
Affirmative, I grew up listening to this song in junior high school. Class of 84’, this was jam and dream come true!

Done without DAW, pure talent.
Bloody brilliant. And makes you realise how fresh this song sounds compared to modern day crap, even though it is over 30 years old.

Its loaded with substance. Chart music today is total throw away shite

I couldn't tell that it's fresh, but it's musical.
Exactly
This is ridiculously good. One of the best cover versions of any song that I have ever heard.
+BL1TZEN
Thanks BL1TZEN. Appreciate your comment.
+BL1TZEN ^ WHAT YOU SAID!!! This was definitely a labor of love. VERY well done indeed.
check out vdublu909 on youtube too. he does this tune too

@@mrrtsno1 they’re both great, vdub’s version is song accurate whereas this is more ad-libbed
Apr 2024. Hands down the best PSB remakes on the internet. Thank you!
Agreed it's superb 👌
Those STRINGS tho....THIS IS TERRIBLY AWESOME...
If Neil Tennant or Chris Lowe heard this arrangement I reckon there'd be a job offer, awesome indeed!

Love that bass line
This is too good. Shockingly, 200K views and only 2.7K likes... people are ruthless.
3 years on from posting my original comment, I still love this and listen most days. West End Girls is my favourite song and this does it justice.
its been 3 years again
Still here...3 years on 😁
Fantastic, i am back in 1985.
Miss the 80s...🤣

Thanks all for the comments.
@johnbrees, I recorded into and mixed in Cubase 7 with a few UAD plugs and some hardware outboard.
Tremendous, outstanding recreation!!!
You know ... I listen this version all the time and imagine the vocals with it ... sooooo good !!!
Emulator II sounds so amazing. Good job!
Jaw-droppingly good. It's made me appricate the original even more too, as you've brought out things that were hidden by the vocal.
Great work.
Thanks. Glad you appreciate it. It took some time to get all the harmony parts right.
Bellissima
I streamed this cover version on the way back from Central London, driving by the Thames nostalgicly.. awesome 😌
PLEASE RELEASE THIS! Sound is awesome, production excellent, this is giving me goosebumps
I could listen to this all year.
Ah....the 80's.... what an exceptional special decade in every way not just music..you just had to be there... eat your heat out
Now that was just so smooth but yet it still gave me good memories of when music was real music, this was wonderfully done, super amazing stuff, well done, keep up the good work.
If I hadn't read the description I would have thought this was the real thing. You sir, are the real MVP.
+YungReg88 True! :D
To me this never gets old. A great piece of music indeed. Any instrumental cover of this song is a hit in my eyes.
really enjoying your interpretation, and wow, what an instrument to do it on.
Exactly ! This by far my favorite version ! Epic instrument !
the bobby o version features ppg waveterm and prophet bassline as well
Man!!! The accuracy of it is out of this world. I'm fascinated by Instrumental ré création, old synths and your mix is just perfection!!
dec2022.. still blown away. I love this..

Very good! Best cover I've heard and I've heard a lot. Thanks!
Them chords...so dreamy!!! Maaaan!
Best cover I've heard, I think that making a video tutorial of this quality will destroy any masterclass out there. Amazingly perfect, congrats

@@EstuaryMists Cool that you found the midi file. Do you still have the Emulator?
amazing version i reckon this is chris from pet shop boys playing that :)

That was the fastest 6m 43s of my life. I could have kept on listening to that forever.
I imagine it was a huge effort....it sounds amazing.
amazing 80's sounds. incredible job!
That's a outstanding cover version!!!!
You REALLY know your stuff. VERY close to the original. I'm impressed.

Jaw dropping, especially that pad/synth that comes in around 0.50...sublime cover, well done.

One of the very best versions I've heard, oh to have an E-mu Emulator II!
"You don't really realize the ingenuity in this song until you try to recreate it or when you only listen to the music without the lyrics."
cant imagine how very good this version is
Good heavens! This is the best cover/remix I have ever heard of any song! It's really is better than the original. I bow down to your talent! :)
Chris, is that you? Very tight, thanks for this.....Mike
I come back to this a lot! Absolutely amazing! Every note done with superb musicianship!
oh yeahh soo lush tune.. good work. i love the trumpet break.. it feels like a cloudy, rainy day. so cosy.

I can´t believe yet, fantastic friend, just perfect! congratulations!
Thanks.
Love the emu emulator its a right piece of kit x
Beautiful sounds and performance, thank you.
It all sounds so amazingly correct. Feels like you nailed every sound. Great vibe.
Purée, je suis jaloux. Quelle perfection dans la recréation des sons ! Les snares en particulier avec la gate reverb sont à tomber !
BRILLANTE! RESPETUOSO ! MUY MUY BUEN TRABAJO.... Felicitaciones!
If anything, this version is deeper and more spacious sounding than the original. And oddly, more authentic. Brilliant interpretation. Keep coming back to this.
Outstanding production! This is truly a cover version which fully grasps the musical essence of the original and even outperforms the original.
Really sweet-sounding cover. Well done.
Absolutely spot on, I would love to own the gear you have. Two great sampler systems, Fairlight C.M.I. and the Emu Emulator II.
This is right out of the Book of Grooviticus 20:7 "Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be Groovy"
good every time I hear it /many times
It's like Imagination band too!
By far, the best cover of this song in the entire RUclips. Absolutely tremendous!!
One of my all time favorite songs. Great job!

Whoa!!! One of my favorite songs from the Pet Shop Boys. Great work! Salute!

Without any doubt the best version and this version is even better !! TOP !!
This is an exceptional cover. No two ways about it!
This is amazing! I really love this cover version.
Excellent cover EstuaryMists !
This completely makes up for the lack of an instrumental track of this song. It doesn't get better than this. Awesome work.
what a ripper!!!! very true to the oringal sound..... you (and the Emulator II) rock!
Man...I'm speechless
This is amazing. One of the best instrumental covers ever.

Epic!!!!!!.Analog Synth Heaven!!!!
Eeeehhh since when is a sampler considered as "analog"? :P
only if it runs on valves instead of transistors xD
It's filters are analog !
I love it! Everytime I hear it, shivers down my spine. Great!
Thanks so much for doing this! What a treat it is to listen to this superb creation!
