  • Over the years many people have tried and failed to escape from Dartmoor. Only one inmate got away and never returned.
Today I talk about notable escapes and my memories of a successful escape while I was there in 2003.

I know, I'm sorry. I've changed jobs... Again... I've been in London training and working late. I promise I will get on it soon. I have Saturday off. There will be a video then promise. I did write a 4000 words for the book though, that counts!

I was in Princetown about 6 weeks ago, and had a look round the outside of the prison. Looks a bleak and imposing place, depressing, and certainly doens't encourage anyone to want to see the inside. Found out that it's STILL got people in there, despite having a radon gas problem (radioactive gas, that naturally seeps from the rock that it's built from / on!). Any prison would probably destroy my mind, so respect for managing to have some 'good times' while in there! Best wishes from Stockport (in the frozen North, near Manchester)!

I loved Dartmoor as well, 😂 i was there early 2000's, Hmp Cardiff was shipping us there, I was there twice, I was 22 first time, just a good rountine, pretty much out all day education or working, the induction Wing was piss pots and lights out at 10, no light switch in the cell, old school screws, mr jobs and mr poiser if I'm remembering right kept you on your toes, second sentence I was on the drug free wing and there was a riot on the wing next door which they kept quiet, lack of staff, unless you was an enhanced prisoner no evening association or a tele, they shipped the boys out who stood up but within bout 2 weeks we were all out every night and they done the wiring and gave us all teles, with our single cells we were pretty content along with our work day and gym 6 times a week, absolute bird killer

Freddie Foreman admitted murdering Mitchell. Despite this televised confession he's never been arrested over the matter.

Out of all the shitty HMPs I found myself in, HMP Dartmoor was the best! Cells are like ovens during the summer and ice boxes during the winter, but I had some awesome times in this place, the gym is fucking epic! I would love to skate board the corridors of this stone fortress! Best fucking prison in the Southwest!!

I agree, it was my prison of choice for the time I spent away. I've been back a couple of times to work around outside.

The benches actually WERE bolted to the floor and it was filled over with tarmac but the screws let us on the yard before the tarmac had completely dried, so "someone" wobbled the bench to release it and then left it in place until needed...
