Yesterday, I was invited into a Syrian home which turned out to be THE BEST HOME COOKED MEAL that I've had in a loooong long time.
The dish they made me is called kibbeh, and I think it's now my #1 favorite dish in the Middle East (behind shawarma and manaeesh).
I spent 5 hours with this amazing family as we went to the market to get the ingredients, then cooked in the kitchen and ate together outside on a big table.
This video was spontaneous. I had no idea what would unfold when I knocked on their door. Maybe it was going to be an awkward day with little conversation? Maybe the food wouldn't be tasty? ... But turns out that it was one of the most memorable experiences in recent memory, and I hope you enjoy this special taste of Syrian food and hospitality!

It was these syrians that ruled Al-andalus(Spain and Portugal) with more tolerance than what was normal back then with Christians, Jews and Muslims living and learning together.
@@freetube5304 I'd argue Muslims for the most part rather than Syrians. Because Syria in its hey day was ruled by either the Byzantines or Muslims from Arabia. The Abbasid and Umayyad caliphate was not a Syrian one and in fact in Al Andalus the vast majority of Muslims were the indigenous people from Morocco/North African countries. No question people from Syria has influenced the Muslim world with culture/medicine/history/cuisine.

@@harismunanda5322 Salahudeen was not Syrian. He was Kurdish. Before Salahudeen the rulers of Syria was Nurudeen Al Zengi's dynasty. Matter of fact Salahudeen had relations to them. And the Zengis were not Syrians themselves but rather Nomadic Turks. They maintained rule over Syria through military strength and again it goes back to the Seljuk Turks. Everything is connected somehow. I'm a big proponent of the Muslim world being great at some point in time and not limiting it to a certain region/race/nationality and so forth. Muslims from Arabia, Sham, Berbers, mughals, central asia, and Turkic Empires have done great things. Every muslim empire that lasted was because they were inclusive of all muslims, Christian's, and jews. Being just to people and not limiting a person to a race was the main reason Muslims were successful. Once nationalism ends Muslims can be in a position of leadership. America is the greatest country in the world today, because it is inclusive of everyone.
Anyways I dont really want to go about history or politics anymore on Drew's videos. I come just to enjoy his videos. Can't believe he has 14 countries left. Quite incredible what he is doing.

Here in Brazil, specially in south there are so many Syrians and Lebanese. They came in the 70s and 80s and you can find a lot of excellent restaurants of their local food. They are part of our culture and social identity! The world and people are very very different from what media shows up...

Actually we arw not that happy because of the Economic situation .. 1$ = 800 syrian pound and the income about 50k s.p and that's about 63$ per month other than that the life is awesome and kind of peaceful
Mr Photographer I don’t think money is everything. Happiness and peace is more important. For example look at Bhutan. They have very low per capita income yet they are happy. And then if you look at an economically prosperous nation people aren’t that happy. Depends on what makes you happy

I have a syrian friend and his mom pretty much makes all The food in The video. Seriously its so freaking tasty.
I remember that i was so full but i ate more food cause it was tasty. Man syrian food is nr. 1
I personally want to try it but I don't eat meat so I can't eat a large part of it and second of all I don't really know how to make Syrian food anyway lol. I really want to try what at least what doesn't have meat in it tbh but I can't. If I could convince my parents, I'd tell them I want to go and visit Syria this Christmas but I don't think it's worth the effort

Drew I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Damascus. I want to tell you, and anyone interested, that Kibbeh dough is not just meat. It is made from meat ground up with burgle (which is cracked wheat). That's what gives it its crunchy taste.
Also Arak is like Ouzo the greek drink or similar to Pernod.

You just can't describe how beautiful are the Syrian people, The Levan has struggled a lot because of Israel and the USA yet we only hear about how awful is middle east. as someone who lived this struggled his whole life I'd love to say I hope I can live to see the day that these people are more free happy and healthy.

As a Syrian, i dont see israel as my enemy. although i am sad to repport that my education always told me how bad and evil israel and israeli people are, many or most of syrian people still belive that. i try sometimes to convince some other fellow syrians that israel is not our enemy and in fact, one should have no enemies, but its too engrained in their heads. its hopless for now.

Drew has really changed the way I look at Syria,
I thought that it would be as rough as Yemen, but
everything is looking totally normal
Damascus is in the hands of the Government of Syria and everything there is pretty chill. They even have flights because Russia backed them. In Yemen the main urban zones including the capital are engulfed in war, with each faction hitting the other. That's why he could only visit eastern zones in one province only.
@r3volt but it is indeed a terrorist stronghold, there's no speck of power from moderate opposition left there. The faster the terrorists gave up better

However the reality is that he is here to stay FOR NOW and the faster Syrians met the normalcy is better for everyone involved. There's article saying "If Sunnis were united behind the rebels, trust me, Bashar would've fallen within days," it was said by anti regime Syrian named Abu qays. If really every Sunni in Syria hate Bashar, Bashar should be dead years ago like Gaddafi. But he's not. He still got a lot of Sunni on his side, a lot of them even in Syrian people's council, pro goverment militia like al-quds most of them Sunni Syrian Palestinian, there's a Syrian army division full of Sunni too
As a Greek, I saw a lot of similarities in the food and also the people seem so nice. I hope the war will end soon and Syrian people create a better future.
