I have the 20 1.8 Z & 85 1.8 Z lenses, they're phenomenal. I was originally torn between the 20 and the 14-30 f/4, but I'm really getting into astro lately. And, there's just something about having a fast 20 prime... it's a must-have for me 🤓📷
One of my favorite lenses. Edge to edge very sharp. Much better than my older F mount 20mm 1.8 I do a lot of wilderness photography and this is the lens I carry.
Really enjoyed this video, nice short and sweet. 20mm 1.8 S is on my list for later this year, have had slightly different priorities but love the quality of the images I have seen, and I can imagine it pairing well with my Z6 II
Just bought this lens today! It is going to be so useful...I know I could've used it in Colorado this past summer for astro photography! Great video as always Taylor!
You think you'll get the 800 6.3? I've already got the 50 and 105 macro lenses, the 28-75 2.8, 85 1.8. I'll definitely be adding the 20 mm to my collection
I’m torn between this lens or spending little over double and getting the 14-24 f2.8s. I think 20 will be length I want but might be a few times the 14mm works better. I do really like primes though for simplicity
Great video. I would love to have this lens. According to the 500 rule you could extend your shutter speed to 25 sec without getting startrails. At the very least you could do 20 sec and be safe.
this " 500-rule" is way way way outdated, with the modern high resolution camera, even a 300 rule you can see star trails.I wouldn't even want to do 15 second exposure with the 20mm lens.
I currently have the 24-70mm 2.8 S, 50mm 1.2 S, and 85mm 1.8 S lenses. I do mostly weddings, events, and artistic portraits. However, I have been hired more often recently to do architecture photography, so I'm looking for something wide enough for architecture, but I am not sold on the 14-30mm and cannot afford the 14-24mm right now. I have considered going with Sigma F-mount glass, but I would really like to stay native. Would you recommend this 20mm 1.8 S lens for architecture?
That lens is on my next to purchase list. I like to do astro shots and this lens is what I need. I also wanted the 200-500 until I heard there is a rumor that they are coming out with a new z version in the 200-600. I will wait on it. How is the focus breathing on that lens? That's one of the issues I have with my Tamron 24-70 G2.
In my experience- they’re both great and performance is very similar. Just depends on focal length you want. I find the 24mm more useful as a second lens for wedding/portraits, but find the 20mm more useful for Astro.
How would you compare 14-24 f2.8 with this 20 mm F1.8....i am looking for wide angle lens for my Z6...have 24-70 F4 and 35 mm f1.8 ( old one) in my kitty
I am a Dslr full time photographer, I use a d750 with a 16-35 afs F4, a 24-70 afs 2.8, 50 afs1.4g, 60mm micro afd, a 80-200afd. im still thinking on this transition to Z6ii or Z7ii or even what 2021 will bring us in terms of new cameras, but I am thinking if getting just an adapter for my lenses, or it's critical to get a Z lens, considering that I will do also video. I know the afd won't autofocus with the ftz, but that's OK for me, I don't do any wildlife or sports, mostly lifestyle, food, travel, architecture or portraits. I heard that for video, z lenses have advantages. My doubt is on getting some Z primes for video and keeping the f mount for photography. Any thoughts are very welcomed. Thank you in advance!
Fantastic and informative video! I did have a question: When you were self-filming, were you using any kind of attachment or device to see yourself and the composition, exposure, mic levels, etc? Thanks!
If im shooting at f4 I’d prefer to have some sort of attachment that pans slowly with the stars so I can run a higher shutter speed or stack exposures. But this is above my knowledge level
Hi man, i like your review, i was already fully convinced about this Lens but your vidéo got me. When you Saïd this 20 mm + the other that i love so much 85 1.8, i understood i was in phase with you. So cool. I have thé 85, thé 20 will bé soon in m'y bag. Fantastic in Low light, AT 1.8 the best WA Nikon made ever.
you are so me... i'm trying to do the same, I have a Z5 Body, i bought 85mm as my first lens which was a mistake... i should have bought the 35mm first then the 85mm, now I'm planning to have 20, 35 and 85 primes
For your wedding work I would’ve thought the Z 24mm f1.8 S would be more useful. Skipping that lens? From the examples I’ve seen, the 24mm renders beautifully.
Video about it coming soon! Expected it to be mediocre, but I’m super impressed with it on a Z 6II. Want to test this week if it scales to the resolution of the 7II. I’m suspecting that’s why it didn’t get the S brand. It’s really great though
talking about size, it's one reason I don't like about it, this s pretty huge for a 20mm F1.8, it much bigger than the Sony 20 F1.8 with the adapter, so i actually use the Sony on my Z9 now, .also kind of strange to heard someone recommend 20mm for wedding and portrait. I for one will try very hard not to use anything wider than 24mm for portrait and wedding.
I have to stop watching your video. I purchased the Z6 (w the 24-70 4 S kit lens) last summer, just before they cut the price on it. Later you recommended the Z85mm 1.8 and I purchased it. Then I saw a video for the Z50mm 1.8 followed by a video on the Z70-200 2.8. These are all prime lenses I would have eventually purchased anyway, now you published a video on the Z20mm 1.8 S. I want it too along with a Z6II as an upgrade. BTW the price of all these lenses have been cut. (after I bought them at full price.) Yes I have learned a lot, but it will be best that I cut back in watching these video. OR My wife is going to kill me!
Just what I have been waiting for a Review of the last of 4 lenses I plan to buy >> I have the first 3 (My 14-30 f4 is too slow for Astro and the 24-70 f2.8 S is just too long )
I found that the 14-30 actually works quite well for occasional astro, as you can expose for much longer at 14mm. I was really surprised of how much detail I could capture in the sky. But the 20mm is definitely a beast for astro
Love your channel, love the nikon z system, but just not overly impressed with the video capabilities 😪...especially if you were to use it for professional real estate marketing videos or or travel, its just comes across as grainy and overexposed, not buttery smooth or 3D No disrespect, just would love to see nikon step up the video capabilities, any feedback would be great or prove me wrong!
Currently using the 24-70 F2.8 S and 14-30 F4 S With the Nikon Z7 for video, was looking to pick up the nikon z6ii and i have the atomos ninja 5 which i haven’t tried with it yet to use it with pro res raw, if you can make a review with that set up!!! That would be incredible
The video is actually pretty spectacular. I've shot in some pretty dark situations and just made sure I didn't go over 3500 iso and I'm very impressed. For bright situations, slap on an ND filter and you're good to go. My only "wish" is that it would do internal 10 bit N-Log recording but oh well... :/
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto if you can make a review with the atomos ninja 5 with the nikon z6ii, that be amazing, cause there are ZER0 reviews on youtube with this set up; think you would receive alot of views for it, thanks again enjoy Banff!

Depends on your needs, but I opted for the 20 - I'd likely be shooting mostly in the 18-22 range anyway, so for less $ & more light - the 20 is ideal for me. It's also crazy sharp edge to edge.
Completely subjective. I went for the 14-30 as I prefer the versatility of zoom lenses and 20mm is just not wide enough for many of the things I shoot. The jack of all trades here would’ve been the 14-24 f2.8 for me but it wasn’t released at the time and also a bit out of my price range

what about the minimum focus distance of the lens ? is it as good as the F mount version

That’s a really tough call. For what I do, I think the 20 suits better. I find that even if I’m on the 14-20 I’m always hovering around 18-24
