this is what happens when you put all your eggs in one basket (the quads) a fall and a major mistake on two of her triple jumps. she did not show any emotion or connection to the music until the footwork at the end of the program. she has a lot of potential if she focuses on her skating skills and presentation marks. Quads are not all that useful if you can’t land your triples.
THIS! People were saying that you shouldn't criticize Mia for her terrible quads considering Russian girls have always benefited from them. The difference though is that a) in the nicest way possible, the majority of Russian girls have much better technique on their 4T than Mia (like much much better) and b) Mia can't even land triples properly. I was looking at skating scores and this girl has fallen on so many triples and 3+3s. For example, Sasha, has had 3 falls on a triple jump in her ENTIRE CAREER, and they all happened when she was a senior - not a junior.
Did your triples suffer when you started working quads? Mine did. Did your artistry suck at the beginning on the season when your still learning your new programs? Mine did.

Despite some disappointment the two quads are most significant event of Ostrava ISU Junior Grand Prix stage. Mia Kalin appearance, costume, music and flexible hands movement bit resembles Kamila Valieva. IMHO

Not cool to assume that it's a mean comment just because it's in Russian or to tell off people purely for typing a comment in that language, wherever they are from. Many countries across Europe (including Ukraine) have people who use Russian as a first language and you will likely see some of them amongst the competitors. At junior worlds the US skater Ilia Malinin spoke Russian to his family and coach. Should he be told off as well?

Compare the transition and skating skills with other skaters. I have no doubt that she has talent on jumps but I don’t think this PCS is low. But She is 14 so there is plenty of time to improve.

All the Russian girls can land their triples just fine. For example, Sasha has stepped out (never fallen) on 3 of her triples her ENTIRE CAREER, and they happened in her senior year. In her junior years, her triples were rock stable.
She had that two quads but nothing else, her jump technique will destroy her back and knees and they often underrated also lacks the connection to music with weak skating skills...compare her program with Mao's it is literally day and night...Mia has potential but needs a new coach

I thought 🤔 that Mia's performance was artistic and technical. She might faltered two of her triple combination jumps, but the rest of her performance was brilliantly done. Her GOE score in the corner resonated her technical score, but the grading system is complicated, and her story reminds me of Kamila of Russia skated a clean first place in the short program, but faltered in the free program as Mia and landed in fourth place. Mia gave a strong performance and should have received the bronze 🥉 medal!!! Her GOE grade score was lower from over 71 to 65... and I, with others, felt that a great deduction from GOE score of over 71 points to a deduction of -6 points of the GOE score to cause her to miss the podium entirely. Unfortunately, that happened to other skaters. That scoring system is complicated and needs to be explained better. The Japanese skater came from 8th place to third place, skating a clean program. The Japanese skater faltered in the short program. Mia skated a clean program in the short program but faltered in the free program, but yet Mia ended up in fourth place instead of maintaining her third 🥉 place slot. The Men's competition, the Swiss faltered in his free program and ended up to medal in third place, so what is the difference between the Swiss and Mia of the United States of America? And furthermore, the Japanese skater who won attempted a quad jump too, and faltered, but she still won so if she had landed it like Mia, it will booster her technical score too, just saying. Well, Mia landed in the top six medal contenders for the future as other competitors in order to obtain points... but the agony of defeat was etched on her face and it was sad to witness!!!
Uuuugh I thought there weren't russians skaters, she needs to change her technique because this type of jump isn't sustainable and also she needs to develop better skating skills and interpretation because this program looked so empty, please develop a personality, I like the dress, the music and the two quads were impresive, she will have a bright future if she focuses in her flaws

Amazing skater, but I think we need to encourage these skaters to pick more original music. It's okay to be inspired by other skaters, but user that to create something original. The problem now is that even World Champions are skating to music that was recently used. Even when Debi and Katerina Witt BOTH skated to Carmen in the free skate of the 88 Calgary Olympics, it was at least a different cut of music. People are literally skating to the exact same cut. Something really needs to be done. I suspect the ISU will be cracking down on this soon.

That’s how you end up with a Jason Brown. Push big jumps early and let artistry develop is the best way to go.
