Just visited one yesterday. I had a family of 6 with me. Since I had the app, I scanned my phone and they walked through first, me last. Everyone went their separate ways and got their things. Then we all left. Everything was on point once my receipt was available, except my son grabbed something and put it back, I believe. That item got added to my receipt. I went in to try again, this time 3 of us. 2 of us walked out with an item but was only charged for one.
Overall, it was neat, definitely a grab and go if you happen to be next to one. You're not gonna want to drive to one in Seattle, unless u want the experience. It's not gonna replace any serious shopping. Really good for tourist

I don’t think so because a lot of people depend on jobs offered by big stores, for example; cashiers, retail workers, etc. I think that a lot of people work there and that job is necessary to feed their families, just like in the movie “Charlie and the chocolate factory”.
Obviously, if we have machines like those ones, it will be more practical and maybe faster than now, however, in case the machine breaks down, it would be a big problem.
Besides, traditional stores seem to be much more cost-effective.

It seems to me that there must not be much of a cost saving for the store owners.
Yes they save on not hiring a cashier, but instead they need a security guard.
Because they need to make sure that nobody jumps the barrier to enter the store without opening the app, and starts taking things which they can't be charged for.
As you say in the video, the main benefit would be avoiding waiting in lines.
So I think these would be great in densely populated locations.
Even in sparsely populated areas, any time saving is welcome. So maybe this is the future of retail!

We're already getting to the point where soon it will be illegal or regulated to drive your car, and you'll just sit in the seat while it drives you safely. Technology is good but at the same time takes away what makes us human and the enjoyment of the process.

I currently work in a grocery store and watch the place get robbed multiple times daily. The reason is, they know store employees are taught to NOT stop them. I think it's a good option, it is easier. To begin with, the owner of the store doesn't have to hire employees. The downside of this is that it also reduces the job openings. Also, the machines need maintenance and it would be more expensive than paying an employee. For that reason, I think the price of the products is high.

Well not gonna be Party Pooper, but the idea of a store with no casheer has existed for decades. In Ireland we have Tesco and Dealz, where I can just pick up items and then scan them and pay with a touch of a card, no human interaction. HOWEVER, there are still humans stacking shelves, keeping the store tidy and helping other people navigate. It very hard for stores to go 'humanless' because robots have no brains. They can mimic intelligence quite well, but at the end of the day, they can only do things that they are TOLD and follow a script. Which is why humans are so important.

But people could still cram in the door with a paying customer...? Maybe have multiple chambered doors that won't open unless it's a single person with the app is checked by cameras and whatever else Amazon's stores are using to ID a person for payment. Exits would also have to have multiple doors for the same reason.

I was a cashier for 23 years at different supermarkets over the years. I'm retired now but I think cashiers will be few a and soon nonexistent. Maybe a front end manager will be still around and a person to help seniors who are not as tech savvy. Tutorial videos like yours can help. Ex- shoplifters will have no problem I'm sure. They will just have a deja vu. Lol!

(1:45)With this logic we should have a gas pump at every EV charger so we don’t discriminate for those that don’t have an EV.

If this is NOT the future of shopping! I wont ever shop at amazon, ever! and I will never shop where a human is not at the register or at the counter to take my order! if it gets to the point where there are only stores like this you will see them all the sudden catching fire or blowing up!

Back to bricks and mortar, with a different business owner. Full circle with monoploy, but serves our purpose, better, neat, convinient. I wonder if small businesses are part of this business model!

The problem is the expense of those apps and equipments. Such as cameras, computers, softwares etc. Plus cost of research and developement that amazon paid for this system and sell it to small companies? Difficult for small ones to overcome.
