Just visited one yesterday. I had a family of 6 with me. Since I had the app, I scanned my phone and they walked through first, me last. Everyone went their separate ways and got their things. Then we all left. Everything was on point once my receipt was available, except my son grabbed something and put it back, I believe. That item got added to my receipt. I went in to try again, this time 3 of us. 2 of us walked out with an item but was only charged for one. Overall, it was neat, definitely a grab and go if you happen to be next to one. You're not gonna want to drive to one in Seattle, unless u want the experience. It's not gonna replace any serious shopping. Really good for tourist
I don’t think so because a lot of people depend on jobs offered by big stores, for example; cashiers, retail workers, etc. I think that a lot of people work there and that job is necessary to feed their families, just like in the movie “Charlie and the chocolate factory”. Obviously, if we have machines like those ones, it will be more practical and maybe faster than now, however, in case the machine breaks down, it would be a big problem. Besides, traditional stores seem to be much more cost-effective.
It seems to me that there must not be much of a cost saving for the store owners. Yes they save on not hiring a cashier, but instead they need a security guard. Because they need to make sure that nobody jumps the barrier to enter the store without opening the app, and starts taking things which they can't be charged for. As you say in the video, the main benefit would be avoiding waiting in lines. So I think these would be great in densely populated locations. Even in sparsely populated areas, any time saving is welcome. So maybe this is the future of retail!
If that store were crowded, those monitoring the surveillance cameras would have a heck of a time to see who has picked what and what was put back on a shelf, The cashiers are paid the minimum wage anyway, a lot cheaper than the guards and cameras surveillance people.
10 dollars is too expensive for a salad. Here in Macedona it's just 1 dollar for a salad with feta cheese. I bought 1.5 kilos of feta yesterday for 3 dollars.
As technology just keeps going in this direction we're going to become way more isolated and some of us aren't even going to talk to people when we head out. We're already getting to the point where soon it will be illegal or regulated to drive your car, and you'll just sit in the seat while it drives you safely. Technology is good but at the same time takes away what makes us human and the enjoyment of the process.
they should be sued this is discrminatory and very customer unfriendly and creates more unemployment don't understand why somebody would accept such human unfriendly attitude , they deserve a boycot
To get into the store, do you need to have the Amazon app? It seems like someone could run in with a mask on, jump the turnstyle, rob the place blind, then jump the turnstyle and run back out
I currently work in a grocery store and watch the place get robbed multiple times daily. The reason is, they know store employees are taught to NOT stop them. Store employees could lose their jobs if they try to stop it. And a lot of retailers currently do absolutely nothing to go after them.
I think it's a good option, it is easier. To begin with, the owner of the store doesn't have to hire employees. The downside of this is that it also reduces the job openings. Also, the machines need maintenance and it would be more expensive than paying an employee. For that reason, I think the price of the products is high.

Yes, because technology advances very fast, but I think that not all people will be able to access these stores. In the world there are many people living on the streets who don't have money to buy a cell phone and pay with electronic money. I think that the store could be an easy target for shoplifters.
This is the future of brick and mortar shopping period. Malls, grocery stores, you name it. Customers want a quick and easy transaction these days. I think most stores will run this way where there's a gate you scan into, pick up whatever item you'd like to buy, and leave. As easy as that.
Future concept but yeah as mentioned by an authority, it needs to bring different payment modes, my cousin has visited one of these store in San Francisco
The only thing is if they sell alcohol there, there is no cashier to check IDs before leaving the store to make sure the customer purchasing it is 21 or older and no returns if you bought milk and it is sour.
What about when a hobo goes in there, stands there opens a package eats what's inside, drops the package to the floor and then turns around and walks out

It is perfect if you just need one or two items to eat or drink something. Sometimes i wait like 5-7 minutes to pay for a quick snack or drink.
