Steward Copeland was the reason I turned to splashes in the early eighties and he always had 2 and a Bell. 10” and 8” splash and an 8” Bell, all Paiute 2002. These two sound as a perfect set. Meanwhile I’ve had many different splashes as I play many different brand setups (as a drum tech and Backline rental Company). Still each splash has to be heard in person as they are extremely sensitive to weight as they are so small. Again, these sound great together!
It goes to show that so much depends on what you’re looking for. I prefer the wuhan because I like splashes for that glassy, Stewart Copeland accent. I have chinas for trash. Great demo and nice, creative uses. Thanks!
This is what I love about music, everyone likes diffrent things and that is how it should be. This is was keeps music original. When people start trying to do what everyone else is doing, or are afraid to say what they like, sound the way they want to, then music becomes boring. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
In Germany, Thomann has a kind of house brand called Zultan Cymbals, and their Aja line is hella affordable. Love my 10" Splash for 29€. Absolute gold.
I prefer the Saluda and they sure make many other great cymbals. Love your chops! I liked the video before you mentioned the 50 likes contest and had to laugh as I made the future giveaway possible. Please keep making these videos.
I too Like the Saluda, and yes it seems that we have finally made it to 50 likes. Looks like I will be putting a give away together very soon. I am excited to have someone win this great little splash!
I have 8” wuhan and to me, it sounds a lot better when you pop it so it’s inverted and playing it upside down as sort of a China splash. Sounds so much better when it’s used in that way.
Great Demo. Great! I learned so much about these cymbals from your clear & accurate demo. I think the splash cymbal is best because I gig with Top 40 Cover Bands & small a Acoustic Jazz Trios. I need a cymbal that speaks quickly & gets out of the way of the rest of the music...similar to what a serious studio drummer might need.
Saluda makes awesome cymbals and they are a USA company with a great staff. I bought a set of their Earthworks cymbals and also have a few of their prototypes.
I just bought five Earthworks series cymbals and they're excellent! 21" ride, 2 17" medium crashes, an 18" medium crash, and a custom-made 16" 'hissing' china (Yes...they will custom make cymbals to get the sound you want!). Great company and solid quality in their products.
I have about 4 different splashes from Saluda. Love their sounds. I am a bit biased, but that is because ALL I use now are Saluda Cymbals. Any drummer who has not tried Saluda, I believe, is missing out. I feel their best offerings come from their Symbolic and Earthworks series...USA made in Columbia, SC.
@@georgecostanza7777 Saluda is a custom cymbal manufacturer. If they rework something, it's normally at customer request. They have their own foundry and forge. Why do you think they have a trade-in program? That helps supply themselves with bronze to melt. I have no reason to doubt my ears (and I have sampled many brands), but information that comes across like this?? Much easier...
@@mfbomberThat's a recent development in the Saluda manufacturing process, they used to do reworks and press/hammer blanks from other companies. The most frequent complaint I've heard about them over the past few years, is inconsistencies. Actually, that's been the major sticking point for Wuhan as well, so I digress. After my cymbal bag was stolen 8 years ago (all Zildjian), I switched over to Paiste, which has incredible continuity, even between different lines.
I like the Wuhan better, the saluda doesn't sound bad, just not the one I'd choose. I bought a 6" Wuhan splash and wasn't happy with it at all so I sold it.
I have a 16” Wuhan china type that I bought for $60 about 15 years ago. It still is the best sounding, and trashiest China I have ever owned, and I have tried a few different ones. That splash sounds great 👍🏻
Hey thanks so much Rovai, I took a risk buying this without hearing it first, but I was pleasantly surprised. As far as likes, I am just a small time RUclipsr, so my stuff gets lost in all the other content on youtube. I am just going to stay consistent in posting and am hoping I will start to gain more subs.
I don't know about the durability, but the Wuhan Koi series is sounding really nice. The Western Wuhan series cymbals are pretty thin and like he says, glassy but customizable, feels soft to strike, for light hammering work a plus imo.. I'd be scared to shave Wuhans down though! They complement other manufactures pretty well as effects too.
Wuhan is a great symbol, I believe their splash really does what it's supposed to do, which is be a bit more conservative and background than the larger symbols. Plus, it's sharp gold sound, and clean crispness still makes an improvement over a lot of music from years back that hasn't stood the test of time. I like it and would like to hear it in a recorded song.
Hey Chandler, I agree the Wuhan is a great cymbal, especially for $40, amazing. I also have a Wuhan china cymbal that I really like, its been going strong for 15 years, no cracks, no problems! Thanks for the comment.
Hi Mike! I am only a humble Buddhist Temple handheld cymbals player, who totally agrees with you on the Saluda 8" Cymbal. To keep up my skill level, I need a pair of 6" to 8" diameter cymbals; maybe around 286g weight per cymbal; and not more than $60.00 USD. I am still looking locally, without much luck, because the sound and "feel" are important to me. People like yourself, and Zildjian provide videos that at least allow you to hear how a cymbal sounds. I have still have not found a video where someone is playing handheld cymbals in the size I am looking for. Your help is appreciated; if your busy schedule allows for it. Thank you! Blessings! 🙏🙏🙏💐
Hello, I’d like to say that the Saluda Cymbals are not ’Cheap’, inexpensive is more descriptive. I’ve been playing Saluda‘s for over two years, and I’ll NEVER play another brand of Cymbals, ever again. The Saluda’s are just at home on my Hybrid Alesis Strike Pro, as they are on my Studio Pearl Masters Maple 15pc, as well as my Vintage early 80’s Imperialstars. I have 6 different complete Cymbal lines from them, with my Tesla Series my absolute favorite, in sound and looks. Thanks for the Video.
I Totally agree, I actually just ordered a full set of Green Goddess cymbals from them, a demo to come. But "cheap" is a more searched keyword so I went with that. Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for leaving a comment.
Thank you Freddie, I picked it up from someone else, it's always fun to experiment with new sounds. It can really inspire creativity and lead to some new ideas.
Saluda all the way. I think Wuhan makes great china cymbals, but other cymbal types have been lackluster in my opinion. Saluda is a solid company with good quality cymbals. I use the Earthworks line (now exclusively). Need to get some splashes now...haha
BEST SHIRT EVER! Also, great comparison! As long as I've played I've never thought to put a splash on a drum or use two as hats! How is that possible?! lol
Thanks! I first saw Johnny Rabb do it years ago. he came out with the drumbal, and also had his own drum stick called the rhythm saw, one of my favorite drummers, super creative. Now it seems everyone is taping splashes to their drums, adding jingles, or shakers. Which cymbal did you like better?
Saluda is a bit more trashy sounding and the Wuhan has more brightness. I honestly have played many splash cymbals in my time from almost all the manufactures and only really like 6" size in A Zil (not custom) or Paiste Sound Formula. But we are talking alot more coin.
I wanted the cymbals to be recorded in the exact same location so the sound would not be altered by their proximity to the mic, this is accomplished by putting the cymbals on the same stand. By the way, you can clearly see that I have two cymbal stands in the video. I appreciate the comment, but may I suggest you spend your effort trying to bring positivity into the world instead of negativity, we have enough of that already.
Gave away the cymbal prior to 50 likes? I won't be 47 then. P.S. That was a real train wreck putting placing a splash cymbal on top of your snare drum. I mean...nobody does that. Unless this was actually just a gag video. In that case...party on Garth.
Look again, the video is at 147, it hit 50 a long time ago. And I don’t know where you have been, but lots of drummers put cymbals on drums. I think it sounds cool. Go troll someone else.

Hi Mike I’m going to try giv away
Love this demo. You do exactly what I like to see- odd stuff with cheap cymbals to see where they fit on your kit, and how they sound as a hi-hat
Johnny sins is pretty good at the drums
Only real ones know🤫

I found that with most cymbals, they have to be broken in and played a bit before they sound right. Especially splashes.
Or hit with a hammer, if its b8 out of the factory, some errrr sounding..
