  • 8th Annual Ed Murphey Classic to Showcase World-Class Track and Field Talent in Memphis
    Memphis, TN - July 8th, 2014 - The Ed Murphey Classic, with the PUMA American Track League, a premier professional track and field event, returns for its 8th edition, promising an exhilarating display of athletic prowess and community spirit. This year's event will take place from July 11-13, 2024, at the University of Memphis and the iconic Beale Street, featuring over 60 Olympians from more than 20 countries, along with talented local and regional youth athletes.
    The Ed Murphey Classic has established itself as a cornerstone of the track and field calendar, attracting top-tier athletes and enthusiasts from around the globe. This year's lineup will once again not disappoint, with athletes representing a diverse range of nations and showcasing their talents across a variety of events.
    On Thursday July 11th, some of the best field event athletes in the World will showcase their abilities at the University of Memphis South Campus track. World number three in the triple jump, Jaydon Hibbert, an Arkansas Razorback, will leap and bound in the men’s triple jump starting at 6pm. Memphis-based Olympian and local coach, Jessica Ramsey will headline the women’s shot put starting at 6:45pm.
    Then on Friday, all competitions move the rubber oval with sprints and middle-distance events starting at 5pm at the University of Memphis. The Friday night program will showcase several track and field stars including multiple Olympic medalist from Jamaica, Yohan Blake, and former University of Oregon standout and Olympian, Jenna Prandini,
    Finally, on Saturday July 13th, the attention turns to the Beale Street Games Headquartered at Handy Park on Beale beginning at 3:30 PM. The event includes the Beale Street Murphey Mile which consists of a 1-mile road race on a course surrounding iconic Memphis landmarks like the FedEx Forum, Beale Street, The Orpheum and more. This event is for youth, families, and adult runners and will end with a men’s and women’s professional race. The road mile will be happening while the women’s professional pole vault takes place in front of Alfred’s. This will be the third year for the John “Buck” Ewing Beale Street Pole Vault competitions for professional women and men including American Record Holder and Olympic Medalist Sandi Morris, multiple World and Olympic Medalists and the current men’s American Record Holder, KC Lightfoot, and local Olympic standout, Sam Kendricks.
