I am more interested in purchasing power parity (PPP). I guess many would not understand the importance of evaluating currencies using PPP, it's not about the strength of a currency, it's about how much you can buy for products/services using your currency in your domestic country. PPP will help you to understand whether your country currency is overvalued and undervalued when compared to other currencies.

People getting salty over which currency is stronger. IF you've studied economics, it is completely and utterly meaningless. 1 USD is 1000 Korean won. (It fluctuates around there). That just makes importing from Korea cheaper. Even the Kenyan shilling is stronger than the Korean won, but does that mean anything? South Korea is far more developed and has a bigger economy than any African country. The only time a currency matters is in the case of inflation (among a few things). Do people not realize that central banks actually control their currency.

I'm from South Africa but i never really understood the significance of a stronger or weaker currency. Growing up, the South African rand was equal to about 110 Japanese YEN, it's only recently that 1 Rand gives you about 8 Japanese YEN (i don't know what changed). But my point is Japan has always been a wealthy nation even with a relatively weaker currency, so what is the significance of a stronger currently?

Juda Sebothoma, My dear it's the purchasing power of the currency we're talking here - how much goods and services can the currency purchase when compared with others. For instance, if your country have more exports than imports your currency will be strong/strengthened currency because of the more goods your country is able to manufacture and export.
You can google or look it up in a good economics text book... it will tell u all you need to know.
      1. why do countries devalue their currency. 2. purchasing power of currency... etc.

2. purchasing power of currency... etc.

Am not very good at this currency thing but Zambia Kwacha, I heard they removed the zeros from their currency whatever that means coz if u remember people used to buy bread with some thousand kwachas some few years ago. Does that make it strong still?

IGNACY MATEMBA , It doesn't make it strong either, it's just a form of carrying less or reduced cash. The most important thing here is - can the revitalized/revalued currency have a strong purchasing power?.
