I saw a Hikaru interview yesterday talking about the Magnus incident there seems to have been a lot of friction between what Fide wants and what Magnus wants this clothing violation is just a catalyst of other issues going on . Hikaru did say the chief arbiter of Fide is on a power kick . Hikaru feels Magnus might not participate again in Fide events instead have his own event like the Random Chess . The bottomline is I believe there’s something deeper going on than this dress code violation .

Arkady Dvorkovich, President of FIDE wore torn up jeans to a big public meeting two weeks ago, everyone else in suits. This is chess, not a fashion event. And Magnus was better dressed than most of the other people at the event, people in horrible slacks and ugly chino's all over the place, Magnus jeans fit well with his absolutely professional outfit. Which, by the way, is accepted in most business situations as well today.
I don't think Magnus should have any special treatment from other players regarding following rules. But I do think if they wanted to correct peoples attire they should have done it before round 1 of that day, not in the middle. And especially wanting anyone to go change after already playing 3 out of 4 rounds that day is just idiotic. Plus, I think stupid rules should not be applied at all and not allowing jeans is definitely stupid rule. This is not wedding but chess tournament and players should be dressed comfortably and decently. Arkady Dvorkovich, President of FIDE wore torn up jeans to a big public meeting two weeks ago, everyone else in suits.
This is chess, not a fashion event. And Magnus was better dressed than most of the other people at the event, people in horrible slacks and ugly chino's all over the place, Magnus jeans fit well with his absolutely professional outfit. Which, by the way, is accepted in most business situations as well today.

I don't think Magnus should have any special treatment from other players regarding following rules. But I do think if they wanted to correct peoples attire they should have done it before round 1 of that day, not in the middle. And especially wanting anyone to go change after already playing 3 out of 4 rounds that day is just idiotic. Plus, I think stupid rules should not be applied at all and not allowing jeans is definitely stupid rule. This is not wedding but chess tournament and players should be dressed comfortably and decently. There is nothing wrong about jeans - i had many high level business meetings wearing jeans, shirt and jacket. This is not 1925 but 2025 which FIDE somehow missed.
Regarding your last part, the dress code was decided by the Athletes' Commission - i.e. not some Fide bureaucrats, but actual players. The members include Irina Krush, Wei Yi, Ivan Cheparinov and others Gms and IMs (looks like different continents/cultures are represented...

Yeah, it can happen. For example almost all king and pawn endgames have been reached before, even if it came after a novelty in move 6 for example.
