  • Remember, this is just one man's opinion. But also remember that man is almost always right.
Ranking the most Southern states from LEAST Southern to the MOST Southern. Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Virginia make the list! Kentucky and Tennessee are put on notice. Texas remains it's own thing. North and South Carolina stay heated about BBQ. South Florida could care less about this video. Louisiana is probably too busy with Mardi Gras to care. Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia battle for the top spot.

    • @MysticMoth_277
      @MysticMoth_277 16 дней назад

Okay yeah whatever 😂 I was born in the Deep South of rural Georgia and I’ll say that Missouri as a whole isn’t southern at all unless sure the border between Arkansas and Missouri but even most of Missouri called soda or cola pop instead of coke as us southerners do. And south central like Oklahoma and Texas is a mix of southern, midwestern, and just the desert west like El Paso is under the state of New Mexico which imo is the coolest part of Texas but that’s not what I am saying. I am saying that most of Missouri as whole isn’t southern and Texas, oklahoma, Virginia/West Virginia, Kentucky are mixed with midwestern, northeastern, and mostly southern influences. American states have a strong mix of culture and tradition mostly in south central and upland south. And if i would definitely say that the Deep South (South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana) are infact a lot more southern compared to Texas or Oklahoma or even Kentucky or the Virginia’s. Tennessee and North Carolina are also southern too which are in the middle between deep and upland south so you can call it mid south but they also kind of have Midwestern influences. Imo I think when he said Alabama is the most southern state I was not surprised. But to me the Deep South is mostly the actual real south if you think much more about it. Also my favorite state of the south has to be Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, and others like Kentucky and Virginia.

As a Alabamian, for perspective I had a friend call me and tell me this morning “he seen a a car hit a buck on the way to work”. Then proceeds to ask me to take his saw from his house and go cut the head off it or at least the antlers. I went to go do it half way through my cup of coffee and a guy was already loading it up in the back of his truck with other vehicles trying to do the same. I mean technically the entire neighborhood came out of the wood works to claim roadkill including myself, and I came to the realization that I fit the stereotypes.

They were used to build Fort Moultrie in less than 5 weeks, which was instrumental in protecting Charleston from the British Navy during the revolutionary war. The walls of the fort were so strong that rumor has it that they ricocheted the canon balls back towards the British ships.

Born and bred in Missouri. Depending on where you live, parts of Missouri are definitely Southern. Anything North of I-44 is considered Midwestern. That includes St. Louis, Columbia, LOTO, Kansas City, Hannibal. Anything South of I-44 but WEST of US 63 is considered “Hillbilly”. That includes Springfield, Branson, Lebanon, Mountain Grove. Anything that is South of I-44 but EAST of US 63 is considered “Southern”. Now, within that area, you have another area that is even more “Southern”, and that is from Sikeston south through the boot heel. That area has almost an “Deep South” or “antebellum” feel, much like Mississippi and Alabama.

From far Western KY….which is west of KY and Barkley Lakes….i agree with this 100000%. The boot heel also makes a case for being Southern just for Lamberts and Boomland. I’ve said for many many years that if you combined the boot heel, the same latitude line for southern Illinois and Southern Indiana you gave for Missouri, and us in western KY…you could make another southern state. These areas are just different from the rest of their home states….and that difference is just being southern.

The more numerous or famous they are, usually they're more "southern" in ranking. Louisiana and Virginia have big claims with New Orleans and Yorktown respectively, while Alabama basically hatched out of a cannonball, since the Creek Campaign among other stuff literally led to the state's creation in the 1810s.

I'd be interested to see Matt draw his line on a Virginia map denoting the South. Personally, as someone from Central Virginia, I would use what I call the "sweet tea line" and that is the line which once you cross, most restaurants stop making sweet tea. So far, I've determined Culpeper and Richmond fall below that line, but Fredericksburg is north of it.
Edit: Some of y'all have never been to Augusta or Rockingham Counties, and it shows.

I think the line should put UVA in the North and VT in the South. Just to make it clear

As a former Virginian, now in Tennessee, I propose that the James River be the dividing line. Sorry Mechanicsville, but growing up in Chester, I still remember "South of the James, by invitation only."

There is no south as we know it without South Carolina. And South Carolina to a certain extent to a lesser or greater degree has everythang Louisiana has. Y’all have creole/cajun culture we have the Gullah/Geechie culture on our coast.
Y’all have New Orleans a major port city
We have Charleston, one of the first major port cities
      Y’all have swamps and gators
We have plenty of swamps and gators
      Y’all have y’all rednecks
We have our rednecks, per capita we have the most trailer homes in the country
At this moment The only thing I could say that y’all clearly have that seperates y’all clearly from us is the music and great artist/talent y’all have produced through yalls states history. I love yalls zydeco and the part y’all play in blues/jazz history

As a resident of Louisiana I’d just like to clarify that Louisiana is actually 3 different entities mashed into one boot shaped state. Everything north of Baton Rouge is what I like to call southern Arkansas, New Orleans is its own thing, and then there is the beating heart of Louisiana which is Acadiana and it’s surrounding areas or Cajun Country for those that don’t know what Acadiana is.
