I saw Theo Parrish at Plastic People before it closed, best club night of my life. Sad I'll probably never hear those songs again, but appreciative that I had a chance to experience them once.
Saw him live a month ago. It was so amazing and life changing I went to see him again last night in Los angeles in a wearhouse and it was just absolutely utterly unbelievably good. This man is my favorite dj by far. What strikes me is the rhythms he plays on the records he chooses. There is so much percusion and rhythms on top of rhythms. Iv never heard anything like that. You can't resist. Your body just starts going crazy. Theo Perish is a master.
Your comment fascinated me. I've never seen Theo Parrish live, but I respect him deeply as a musician and DJ. Could you elaborate on your experience at his live set? What made it so special?
So intellectual about his music. There is NOTHING like a vinyl. Even the cover speaks to you and you can't get that with any other form of music. I'll never get rid of my collection. I want to continue to add to it but my favorite Bill's Records in Dallas the owner has died. But music lives on and on.
Crazy respect. I just hit my 29th year as a vinyl artist. There will never be anything quite like it.That tangeable sound you can hold and will not be forgotten.
thank you. one say i may have a b side showing my years of experience rrom living in Frankfurt Germany through moving to the US. Help me get on one of these
I've always loved Theo Parrish, this 15 minute feature is really quite nice, @ElectronicBeatsVideo thanks for presenting it! I love how he downplays beat the art of mixing for the art of the dj/artist. IMO, it's the personality, track selection, artistic vision & timing that really makes a good dj. I've always felt that the obsession with perfect mixing was a soulless focus. Technological advancements in music & dj'ing are not synonymous with artistic achievement/merit or value. Great guy.
Great video and interview, thank you! Mr. Parrish is a huge inspiration. It's also amazing that I found a recordstore through this video in a place I visit a few times every week. I only knew Rushhour, Recordfriend and Concerto (still r.i.p. Boudisque). Will visit this place very soon!
in a world of laptop dj's and controllers , terabytes and self operating d.j software its a breath of fresh air to see a vinyl d.j take out his own needles and actually become one with the room on a personal and intimate level
You are in this place right now. All tracks played in this video are on youtube, search for them and you might come across other awesome stuff you wouldn't hear otherwise which to me is the essence of 'digging' ..
Just a different view, people in Europe also work in factories. To me the way is see it is: I work I. A factory and I hear the same sounds every day, and then I am like hold on wow this could be used to make a track and I'm like wow these machines really inspire me. So that I'm my point of view for example.
Yo the name of the first track is "Galactic Ancestors" on the album titled Sound Sculptures, if anyone is interested! Go Diggin. I just found it on ITunes. The point of diggin is to not only help you find the particular song you want, but also to familiarize yourself with other works from the artist. It's a form of self education.
12:50 As an (ex)teacher with 10+ years on the front-line, I can say with qualification that respect, or lack thereof pays no attention to age, race, nationality or gender; Poverty is the deprivation of sustenance to all souls.
I could listen to the words of wisdom from cats like my bro Theo Parrish and Heiroglyphic Being forever : Would love to have a ayahuasca jam with these doods. #respect
Hi Electronic Beats Video. Thank You for posting this insightful insert. It is a great inspiration and very rare to get such knowledge form the man himself. May you please post the tracklist of the amazing music(I have never heard before)playing in the video. That would be great. Thanks once again for the video.
completely mindblow, what a vision of djing and life. Just for the story i'm about to played at a festival in 2 weeks i was about to play some tech house that for sure will make people dance (sidney charles, appollo 84, detroit swindle, london ground, defected stuff mia mendi, and go on ) but the thing is i'm not true about myself he is totally right when he says it's all about technology and that anyome can do that. I have some disco records that i never played because i don't really know how people will react to them, or if they will wait for something more "hardcore" i would say. But after hearing that i will totally play that records and be true with what ilike complete change of point of vue and setlist. Thanks to always propose some quality when it comes to electronic music telekom, either studio tips and interview always something to learn and be shared.
Every time he talks about his love of vinyl and vinyl Dj, it reminds me of craftsmanship in Japan. They use same technique from the past and carry tradition instead of going digital or automation. We need 2 types of people. People who keep the tradition and people who advance the technologies.
Theo is propably the purest example of what a DJ is and even an artist. Convenience plays indeed a huge role. If Im honest I must admit that Im a lazy basdert too. In my town there're barely no record shops at all. I do buy about 20% vinyl and 80% digital. And Im impatient because I dont want to save 2 months until I got enouth money to buy all the wax I'd like to buy. I rather buy it online tbh. Vinyl is the real deal but I guess most of our generation does not have enouth discipline for it.
Totally agree!! I got to hang out with Theo Parrish back in 96, if you want to do him justice, buy his vinyl for playing out, and share the knowledge of his music for free... the track at 7:55 is Chemistry by Theo Parrish (for the peeps who were asking)
This brother is strictly for the music, fun fact, I wrote and sang chemistry, one of tracks that’s playing on your short doc. We cut the song in Redbull studios in Cologne Germany.Amazing brother definitely understand him now since meeting him in person . unfortunately I guess I wasn’t worthy of credits on the song because he never gave them to me but all good.
For those who are asking for tracks

"I'm not comfortable with convenience replacing artistry"
one helluva quote!
From one helluva of a guy!
as a street drummer I can't even explain how I appreciate that saying.
Theo is one of my role models; truth at all cost.
This is why undergroud artists are the only artists I listen to. Forget that mainstream madness.
I saw Theo Parrish at Plastic People before it closed, best club night of my life. Sad I'll probably never hear those songs again, but appreciative that I had a chance to experience them once.
Theo arrived at that store in the afternoon. Left when it' was dark outside. He spent quality time inside for sure.
Theo! One of the greatest to ever do it for house music! ❤

The track played around 8:00 is from Theo: Chemistry

Literally heard this sampler before in a song “everyone forgot the records themselves and was worried about the mixing. & that’s more about the ego.”
what track
I understand and respect what he is saying, he's quite a wise soul.
