You are way underrating Reed like most. Just like most you talk about him not getting to the rim, too small, can't get his shot off in the NBA, not athletic...blah, blah blah. To begin with on O...What you fail to understand, Reed does not need to get to the rim. He has a great mid-range game, which is open due to his elite 3- point shooting and is better than getting to the rim, because it opens up his excellent playmaking skills to go along with his very good ast/tov ratio. He is a player that other teams cannot contain without double or triple traps (will this be his NBA kryptonite or will he deal with them?...we will soon find out...my bet is on Reed). He is also a player who will get his teammates into the game before he gets his points and that is far more important than scoring or driving to the rim.
Everyone talks about his elite shooting, passing and court vision, which I love, but for me it is his D that is so elite and so far ahead of his competition.
Reed is not a lock down man to man point of attack defensive player...like you and everyone wants him to be (his style of D is much better). His D comes from BB IQ, athletic talent and hustle...he anticipates the passing lanes, never gives up on the play, has quick hands to pick pockets, poke the ball out from behind and his vertical can not only give him blocks from behind (the latter two offsets faster players getting around him), but also out on the 3-point line. This is ELITE stuff by Reed...in 2 Summer League Games he has 6 steals and 4 Blocks and that is 5.0 per game (4.84 per game is the best D career # ever posted in the NBA and nobody was close to it...2nd place was 3.1781 per game). In college Reed was 3.1818 per game and only 2 HOFers did better in the NCAA than Reed...Reed's D is no fluke and it is a huge unique asset to his game.
How good is your BB knowledge? Can you name the two NBA HOFers and their Steals + Blocks per game NCAA numbers that were better than Reed's numbers?
My comp for Reed is John Stockton with better shooting, rebounding and D (vertical). Reed will have better options (teammates than Stockton did).
Sorry, but like I said you are way underrating Reed. I know you didn't bash Reed. but you really should listen to Stone and Udoka's comments on Reed instead of your follow media parrots.
I did enjoy your overall take and your right about Reed's landing spot...but you should dig a little deeper on the facts and stats. Enjoy watching Reed become an elite two-way player and keep looking at his D #s.

@TerranovaBasketballStudy literally man hasn't played a nba game and comp him to a top 5 pg all time is reckless lol. I like Reed but Lonzo Ball killed SL too. Let's pump the brakes just a bit. (The other commenter).

Why do people say Reed Shepherd is not athletic when he had the highest vertical leap of the draft at 42-inches? He got a lot of blocks for a guard due to his jumping ability.

He is alot closer to a CP3 and Curry. I see a true PG and elite middy game. Way way better than Austin Reeves. He has shown he can be an elite creator. Incredible defender with quick hands.

I don’t think there’s been a prospect on the level of Chris Paul since Chris Paul. A guard that small being as elite as he was defensively is unheard of

What genius? Sarr and Risacher were always top 2. Reed was the safest 3rd pick . Rockets brass would’ve picked Sarr or risacher if they dropped i bet. Despite them not admitting it.

    • @TerranovaBasketballStudy
      @TerranovaBasketballStudy  3 месяца назад +2

If Sarr dropped they probably would’ve picked him but I think Houston (along with a lot of people including myself) would’ve taken Reed over Risacher simply because Reed is flat out just a better prospect

@@klmtech6440 I will be a bit surprised if Reed get enough minutes to have a shot at the ROTY.
Stone has done a great job drafting. Of his 10 picks so far, 7 of them are making up the Rockets young core. Plus the other 3 picks he turned into Steven Adams and the rights to a Euro big man. Can you name another GM in any sport go 70% on their 1st round picks and then not waste the other 3 picks? I can't.
Stone is a huge analytics guy and very calculated...He is responsible for setting up and managing the first Analytics Department in the NBA under Morey. He is the first GM to get 8 (picks & swaps) for a player in any sport, (then after he got Tari, Cam and Reed though the first 5 picks/swaps), he then traded 2 (pick/swap) of them back to the Nets to get 3 Suns' + 1 Dal picks/swaps...for a total of 10 picks/swaps (with no restrictions) for Harden.
Now he controls the Suns' picks with an aging KD and they only have their 2031 - 1st & 2nd round picks with a heavily protected 2028 2nd rounder, plus they are $51.5m over the cap. The Sun are stuck with a maxed out cap and no incoming young talent. I call this genius by Stone, because having control over their 1st round picks for the next 5 years it is just that.
The Harden trade is the trade that keeps on giving and will be called the best trade ever. Peeps took a long time to understand how good the Harden trade was back in 2021 and now they don't understand how good trading back to the Nets to get the Suns' picks is for the long-term future of the Rockets.
Stone is dealing on a different level than all the other GMs...showing them how it is done. He has taken the messed up Rockets (by Morey) and replaced all the draft picks and then some, loaded the team with quality young talent, turned the worst cap situation into one of the best in the NBA, plus attracted quality vets and a great coach. He is setting the bar high and is a genius GM...no matter how much Stone bashing has gone on in NBA circles and online. I believe Stone was right over any media or fans regarding Reed...The analytics back it up.
