      Thank you so much! 😊
      I’ve skimmed a couple of Top 10s floating around, and that along with many of my other picks don’t seem to be on other people’s lists. The Substance is basically the one film I chose that everyone seems to also be choosing no matter how different people’s preferences are. 🤣

    loved watching your vids again this year, it's really encouraging me to push myself to see more films next year!! I don't go to the theater (or out at all) often anymore due to health reasons but I really want to push myself to read more books and watch more films, especially ones that are going under the radar. Thanks for your hard work, here's to a great 2025!!

    • @LadyJenevia
      @LadyJenevia  27 дней назад +2

      Your health should absolutely come first! You don't owe me any specifics but if it's an option for you to go to the cinema once in a while and you want to go, there are often showings that aren't crowded. Usually the only things I see being crowded are things like massive, highly anticipated franchise films, or something from a more established director. But even those usually become less crowded after it's been out for a while.
      But even if you're supporting the films at home (by renting/purchasing) you're still helping artists in some way!

    Great list. I recently watched Rebel Moon Director's Cuts, and they are def in my top 10. Magical films. I'm glad they're slowly getting some love, because a lot of people still haven't watched them. Zack's films have a tendency to get bashed, misinterpreted, or overlooked at the beginning, but eventually gain cult classic status.

    • @Celine-om2bf
      @Celine-om2bf 28 дней назад +6

      Yes!!! I loved the DC’s. I wish the pg13 versions were never released, but Zack had to do what he had to do. I dressed up as Kora for Halloween, lol.

    • @hartthorn
      @hartthorn 27 дней назад +1

      Haven't gotten around to the director's cuts, but from what I've seen they definitely put some more meat on the bones of those movies. I watched the initial releases, and they were passable but hollow, which kind of pissed me off that they were basically sitting on the DCs the whole time PLANNING to release the "real" movie later.
      But at the same time, the two DCs being a total of over SIX HOURS really makes me want Snyder to learn some damn restraint.

    • @Rony-L

      @Brianna.C_88 27 дней назад +2

      I agree, the dc's were awesome. You can tell those movies were made with passion and love. The pg13 versions were more of a product meant to get to the end as fast as possible. I def don't blame Zack for the 2 versions. Business is business.

      @LadyJenevia  21 день назад +1

      Thank you! I only skimmed a couple of lists but the only overlap I saw in my Top 10/11 was The Substance and Nosferatu. The Substance in particular was more or less on EVERYONE's list, which was rather surprising to me because of how different people's tastes are that I wouldn't expect for any one film to be so consistently favoured. 😳💉

    Great list! I am now subscribing to you! Here’s my list. I’m seeing The Brutalist on the 15th so this could change.
    10. A Real Pain.
    9. Ghostlight
    8. A Different Man
    7. Sing Sing
    6. Flow
    5. The Substance
    4. Anora
    3. No Other Land
    2. Nickel Boys
    1. How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (for very personal reasons)

      Some of the critical darlings either weren't released at my local cinema at all, or haven't been released yet, though some seem to be preparing to do their roll-out this January (The Last Showgirl and Better Man are coming out next week).

  • @hartthorn

    Couple movies I would recommend from my year at the theater.
    The Return - the final act of the Oddysey (excellent timing on this one). Slow burn, heavy atmosphere, very engrossing.
    Flow - This was a WILD one. Animated movie about a bunch of animals, not a single word is spoken because the animals are ANIMALS, and no humans are in the movie. Absolutely gorgeous and incredibly moving. Wildly hysterical at parts too.
    A Real Pain - Eisenberg directorial debut and it just speed bags your feelings.
    We Live in Time - Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in an emotional romcom. Need I say more?
    Saturday Night - The birth of SNL. The crew they put together for this was astounding.
    Transformers One and Killer's Game - listen, gotta have some of my shlock cheese in here too. T1 did an amazing job at bringing some much needed energy to the fandom after all the Bayformer movies. And Killer's Game is mostly "Smokin' Aces" type of action, but it also 100% sold me on Bautista as a romantic lead.
    Fly Me to the Moon - Another wild comedy that didn't get a lot of hype. Tatum really had a rock solid year.
    The Bikeriders - I grew up in my stepdad's MC, so this one has some special hold on me as the iconic old school bikers.
    Back to Black - It was shlocky and melodramatic, but by god, I still enjoyed the hell out of this.
    American Fiction - absolute banger that opened up at the start of the year.

    Great list! I think this year was significantly stronger than last year. I had no 5/5 films in 2023, but had 3 this year. Here’s my top 10 of the year:
    1. Longlegs
    2. Furiosa
    3. Nosferatu
    4. The Substance
    5. Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1
    6. Juror #2
    7. Conclave
    8. The Last Stop in Yuma County
    9. Strange Darling
    10. The Promised Land
    HM: Red Rooms, Love Lies Bleeding, Rebel Ridge

    • @LadyJenevia
      @LadyJenevia  27 дней назад +2

      Conclave was unexpectedly fun to watch! The marketing wasn't effective though. I barely had any sense of its existence apart from the fact that the poster was one of many displayed at the cinema. I randomly saw a tweet describing it as 'being like gossip girl' (or something to that effect) which was such an odd comparison that I decided to go see it. 😂

    Awesome ranking my Top 10 movies of 2024 would be
    1 Wicked Part 1
    2 The Wild Robot
    3 Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes
    4 Joker Folie A Deux
    5 Inside Out 2
    6 Barbie and Stacie To The Rescue
    7 Dune Part 2
    8 Young Woman And The Sea
    9 Challengers
    10 Mean Girls and It Ends With Us (tied)

    • @LadyJenevia
      @LadyJenevia  28 дней назад +2

      I just had to look up "Young Woman and the Sea" to refresh myself on which one that was. I don't think it ever released where I usually go to see new films and it seems like whatever theatrical release it did have was a limited one. Glad you liked Mean Girls though! I think that was one of the only things I had fun watching in the mostly barren line-up of January releases of 2024. 😭😆

    I love your list. Lisa Frankenstein is also my number one. I have hyped it up to anyone who will listen. Some others I really enjoyed in 2024 were The Fall Guy, Mufasa, Fly Me to the Moon, and I don’t think it had a theatrical release but Damsel.

    So glad you enjoyed Kneecap and Small Things Like These. I knew of Kneecap before, but the movie has turned me into a bone fide fan. It was such a good time, especially the Gerry Adams drug hallucination, which may have gone over the heads of non-Irish viewers, but which made me cackle.
    Small Things Like These was a deeply moving piece which depicts the subject matter with more subtlety than most non-Irish movies. It also displays what I call 'The Quiet Girl effect' which is the continuing impact which that amazing movie has had on Irish cinema.
    Unfortunately, Emily Watson struck the only false note in the film. I never find her convincing in Irish roles and the Church scene which had her giving an oration (never would have happened) felt completely unrealistic.
    Furiosa and Monkey Man also ruled.

    • @LadyJenevia

      OKAY SO as I mentioned, I binged a lot of interviews, and I remember hearing Rich mention in one (I don't remember which one off the top of my head) that people DID NOT want to fund the animation sequence. I don't remember if it was the subject matter, but I'm assuming it was specifically the fact that this part would be done in the animation medium so eventually Rich got so fed up he just paid for the animation himself. 😭😆

    From what I understand. Lisa Frankenstein has released in 4K but it’s hard to get. I only have the iTunes version and regular blu ray.

    • @LadyJenevia
      @LadyJenevia  27 дней назад +2

      @@furynotes That is soooooooooo frustrating. It’s so phenomenally done that I’m assuming it’ll find its legs as a cult classic and then do a more proper “anniversary” release on physical media but why do those of us who understand the hype NOW have to wait that long?? 😆

      I'm glad animated films like The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2 performed well at the box office since it feels like not enough Hollywood executives respect the medium (i.e. GDT having to take his Pinocchio film to NETFLIX 😭) but that battle feels far from over. 😔
