Carl and Alex has honestly helped me so much. Really used to rely on my father for setting up, feeding etc. Ive learned SO much through this channel. Im now perfectly confident on my own. I would love to catch a fish using the methods in the video. Looking forward to trying it, and more content
I got my lad the he made book he’s only 6, he reads it every night before bed. It’s turned him into a true addict, if you haven’t got it I’d advise you too. Refreshed a few things in my head to, to be honest
I needed to reply to this if u live in uk wanna go fishing sometime lol I was like that too relied on my dad to set everything up only thing I used to do my self was bait up but now I also do everything myself thanks to these videos! Mint seeing someone who was in the same situation as me :)
Caught my first carp surface fishing this weekend! Dog biscuits worked a treat. Cheers Carl for all your videos. For someone who is new to fishing they have been great 👍👍👍
Rod hooks and landing net, never forget the net! me and a friend of mine back some 20+ years ago when we was kiddos unlocked the freeline and bread method on our local pond and started cleaning up the big carp even catching the biggest one, named "SUB" for being a dark backed common that often cruised on the surface, multiple times. the other older anglers of the pond took a bad view to us and in a month of 2 all bread and freeline baits was banned from the pond. kinda funny how some people get over kids younger than them bagging in the goodies. Freelining will always be one of my most engaging methods of fishing. Even now after a LONG break free lining is the most exciting, after float fishing.
Surface fishing is my fav too. Especially when you've got them confidently feeding. It's a great sight and confidence builder. It's what makes bottom fishing difficult. You are kind of guessing as you don't really know what's going on down there.
Many a time, Carp will take the loose fed dog biscuits, but will refuse the one with the hook!!, may have a lot to do the difference in buoyancy due to the weight of the hook. If that's the case, try carving a Large, Similarly coloured, Pop Up Boillie into the same shape & size as the dog biscuits. The Pop Up is more buoyant & will counteract the weight of the hook so it looks more like the same as the Freebies!!
Carl and Alex have got me more in to bigger carp fishing and I have been watching for 6 years I was 10 when I started watching and I followed there tactics and I broke my pb it was 28 pounds thank u both 👍
Always used to love going fishing in the summer and using the”floating bread technique” as me and my friend called it! Haven’t been fishing with him in such a long time…life gets in the way, good times though!
I recommend this milky toffee pop ups I went night fishing with my mate and we got non stop bites ever since I started using these I’ve been catching a lot mot fish
I accually tried surface fishing for the first time not so long ago. Caught some tentch and even a 53cm grass carp. So I just wanted to thank you for showing me an easy way to fish!
The grass carp in my area do this early summer late spring, what I do is throw some old bread in the water so it floats near me. Then just use a small plastic (yellow or orange) or bread as bait. Works great got a few 10-15lbers. Nice video, tight lines.
Great video again 👌 I had a short session last weekend doing this, it’s so nice to be able to bag a few big carp early in the year! I normally find stripping off some line first helps cast that little further 👍
Nice jobe mate keep it up both of you and if you can make a video on a random spot on a big river searching for carp how to tie a sistems and rest staff(spoding, what to look for...)
I bought one of those controller floats after seeing them in one of your older videos. The amount of carp ive had try and take the float off the surface is crazy 🤣
I know right 😂. Try the Fox Bolt Bubble too. I've found it happens less with those. I had 11 carp in my last session and lost about 5 using the bolt bubble.
love that way of fishing, i had a 19lb common carp on a pellet Waggler in a video two week's ago, by dangling a pellet on the surface, it was a pb thank you nice video, 👍👍
I love this way of fishing normally with a full slice of bread rolled up with two or three twists of line around the bread I call it a Cigar rig learned it of a old guy never thought it would work but have Lodes of them and it help with the distance to get you out there wen your fishing for really spooky fish
Hi Carl the lake I fish even though the fish cruise the surface in the summer heat ive never seen them take an interest in bread, chum mixers etc. what would you recommend? I would love to try surface fishing but they never take the bait
Thanks so much for these videos, it’s essentially public service broadcasting. Any chance of an FT video on playing the fish, me and my son always get excited when we get a bite and sometimes get a bit keen on getting the fish in asap, a video on playing and using reel drag would be brilliant please Carl!
Thanks Rich! I'll actually be doing a how I store tackle film soon actually when I sort my garage out, thought it's be a good time to do this :) I'll make sure I cover it
great, helpful video. just wondering what is your surface combo ? i'm sick of changing my rod from bottom to surface so i've decided to invest in a surface combo but unsure of where to start. Do you have any reccomendations ? much appreciated for any advice. tight lines.
Oh no! Next time hopefully :) Glad the time on the bank still did much good :) Yes thank you, went so well! I'd been blanking at this water for so long, so relieved to be catching finally!
Another top video Carl, its ashame your not with Alex but still enjoy your videos the same, I have also been enjoying Alex's Videos. Looking forward to both of your next videos, keep up the good work 👍
I’m just getting in to carp fishing ( meaning I’m getting bit together before I go ), what’s a good size starter next for carp fishing, currently I fish for silver fish
Great Video as always. Any suggestions on venues in the south for surface fishing? Our usual watering hole has lost a lot of fish and isn't fishing as well as it used to. Keen to try a few more places. Love fishing off the top, nothing tops seeing them have your bait away. Thanks in advance and keep up the awesome content.
I really appreciate this vid. Been having proper head banging sessions surface fishing. Hopefully these tips help me out. Had a session with my dad and we had the exact same rig and exact same swim casting to the exact same shoal and he caught fish after fish and they wouldn’t take mine 😂
Seriously good video but curious why you use a thinner diameter mono which brings down the breaking strain, instead of fluorocarbon ? Which is invisible in water and floats.
As an experiment I've purchased a few Bread Flake "Flies" to use on the surface. I don't have a fly rod so I'll use a Bubble Float as a controller to give me some casting weight, I'll try anything once!🤣
More and more fisheries are banning the use of bread. I have discovered that banana is a wonderful bait for carp, especially slight under-ripe bananas because they float really well and stay on the hook better. Cut into cubes.
Killer method Trouble is a lot of Fisheries have banned it due to hooking ducks So if you fancy trying it best to read the rules of where you fish top tip is use a matchstick to stop the hook coming back through the top eye . Some places have hook size rules also
If you want to do an epic surface fishing video I recon I could get you on my club lake if I put you intouch with the fishery manager... Its got to be one of the most productive surface fishing lakes in the country, the carp simply do not eat off the bottom on this venue, you can catch them on bread in summer, and pellet waggler a foot below the surface all winter. You will go through 4-5 loafs of bread in 3hrs on a mental day and 2-3 loafs on an average day, its not uncommon to catch upwards of 1000kg of carp if you spent a full day fishing it however you normally get sick of catching them after an hour or 2 its that productive, lake has a handful of 20s in there aswell so not just all small fish.
Any carp rod will do, but I prefer a lighter rod if possible as I’ll be holding the rod all day. I’ve normally got a 10ft, 2.75lb rod for this, but a 12ft might be more suitable for fishing a long way out on big lakes.

i’m soo grateful for carl and alex they have helped me soo much thank you guys much appreciated

Awesome video Carl. It’s such an exciting way to fish especially on a sunny day when nothing else seems to be working.
Thanks Stephen :) Glad you enjoyed it!
I've been waiting for another video really excited. I love your videos they really help me and carp fishing. Thanks so much!

Thanks for this Carl. Just what I needed on a dreadful Monday morning.
Very welcome Pete :)
It’s not monday
@@nick_gauntlett it was Monday when this was releases to Patreons 🤷♂️

You can also hook on a few mixers in a mesh bag when fishing at longer range.
Can you make a video on how to maintain a fishing reel properly? What to do after the end of the season, where the best store, lubrication and so on?
I accually tried surface fishing for the first time not so long ago. Caught some tentch and even a 53cm grass carp. So I just wanted to thank you for showing me an easy way to fish!
You caught a tench off the surface? 🤔
@@BoosiveFPV trust me, I was as suprised as you are
Some places they will take on the surface, but generally they tend not to! :)

Stalking is 100% my favourite, but condition got to be right and you need to pay attention which is why I love it
Me and my daughter have learned so much from your channel. We're really enjoying our fishing 🎣 shes started her own channel as well 😊
That is awesome! We're happy to hear that :) and wish her all the best with it!
I’ve just started fishing and I’ve watched these videos as I have no idea what I’m doing hopefully it pays of great videos
All the best with it! Cheers Daniel!
I’ve done it myself this spring and I’m completely hooked! Nice video keep on going with these inspiring tutorials!
What's another great video keep them coming he'll be great to have a pond update soon please 🎣🐟
Hey Carl, what kind of rod do you suggest for a float fishing?
Nice jobe mate keep it up both of you and if you can make a video on a random spot on a big river searching for carp how to tie a sistems and rest staff(spoding, what to look for...)
Some nice tips here, deffo gonna use these over the spring for some surface fishing, thanks! =)
I bought one of those controller floats after seeing them in one of your older videos. The amount of carp ive had try and take the float off the surface is crazy 🤣
So frustrating isn't it when the Carp eat all the free offerings, ignore your bait, try to eat the Controller, then spit it out with disgust!🤣
I know right 😂. Try the Fox Bolt Bubble too. I've found it happens less with those. I had 11 carp in my last session and lost about 5 using the bolt bubble.
Haha so true
Great video Carl 🔥🔥
Dude your Videos are like discovery channel documentary’s, well done
Wow thank you
love that way of fishing, i had a 19lb common carp on a pellet Waggler in a video two week's ago, by dangling a pellet on the surface, it was a pb thank you nice video, 👍👍
Size 2 hook two chum mixers nice and soft pulled over the hook works really well as they hide the hook completely
Great tips on chuming, thanks!
Great stuff! Location looks stunning.

Thank you Paul! :)
Fly fishing for carp!! Omg tried it for the first time 2 weeks ago oh my days!! It was awesome
Great to hear you enjoyed it!!
Where did you put the wind? I found a reservoir with no current; in lakes there is always movement of water.
Hi Carl the lake I fish even though the fish cruise the surface in the summer heat ive never seen them take an interest in bread, chum mixers etc. what would you recommend? I would love to try surface fishing but they never take the bait
Could you use pva bags filled with dog biscuits with your bait set in the bag to get the distance you need ?
Do you need a specific rod for this style of fishing or could I use my feeder rod to apply this tactic?
Thanks so much for these videos, it’s essentially public service broadcasting. Thanks mate. You're welcome!
Great vid well done can’t wait to get them of the top
Have u ever tried baiting with floaters but fishing a pellet waggler or carp controller with a foot deep pellet?

Hey Carl and alex on surface fishing what lb line and hook size you prefer
I love to fish free line.

Any small lakes with a big stock is ur best bet for surface fishing. Can always get them on bigger lakes too but just not as many opportunities

Seriously good video but curious why you use a thinner diameter mono which brings down the breaking strain, instead of fluorocarbon ? Which is invisible in water and floats.
Fluorocarbon has a density higher than water so it sinks. :) Mono tends to be neutrally buoyant so with some oil will stay on the surface.
What polarising sunglasses do you use / recommend? I've got some trespass ones and they're rubbish!
I use Kordas, they're decent!

Will you be doing any Fishing Trips further up North? Some great spots in West Yorkshire :)
Would love to!
My favourite way of catching carp with my son, 2 or 3 days father son time and a beer of course.
Бро, а что если вместо бойлов в ПВА стик напихать собачьего корма и побольше? В качестве прикормки для карпов?
What line would be best for top feeding, strength and type?
How do you deal with swans and other aquatic birds ? If they get hooked then stuff will get very complicated.
Surface fishing for carp, is the equivalent to lure fishing for pike. The most exciting, way to catch.
Agreed!
More and more fisheries are banning the use of bread. I have discovered that banana is a wonderful bait for carp, especially slight under-ripe bananas because they float really well and stay on the hook better. Cut into cubes.
Great video Carl , be nice to see Alex do the odd fishing tutorials vid if he gets the time .

Great video again chaps. Can you shed any light on the dog biscuits you use? Did you say "chum" in the video?
Pedigree Chum! Cheers Mark :)
I have floating hook link line
Used vaseline and the dog biscuits were meant to be floaters
They sank??
Any ideas please
