Haase's House O' Science isn’t metro under fire for those locomotives being bad for the environment? I could be wrong but that’s what I saw on the news
Nice introduction and history. I grew up with these units since I first started railfanning in 2004; it brings a tear to my eye to see them go. But of course old things go. My dad used to see F units a lot as a kid and watched them go, and I'll have to go through it also. It's kinda sad how the F59PHI never got the love of the F40PHs, which we'll probably see dissapear soon also.
@@AtTheCrossingProductions I was only 3, my dad used to take me to the Auburn Sounder Station a lot and I used to see a lot of Amtrak and classic BNSF back in the day, funny how much time goes by.
Its sad that I have only seen a few F59PHI locos in my life. Luckly I just got Pacific Surfliner for Train Simulator and I can get the Cascades repaint for the F59PHI.
You always have the option of coming here to Chicago to see them in action. Metra takes great care of their fleet too, so they will continue running for years to come. We get way more trains than anyplace else in the U.S. too.
Trust me I know. We had our share of saves too. The Illinois RY Museum just recieved a former TPW Alco C424 from the scrappers torch. Always nice to see units get rescued from demolition
That was in replacement of some of their F59's who went to Colorado for testing. They're now back, and those Cascades/Surfliner F59's are now in Chicago.
Ive seen the Locomotives since 2010 and its sad to see them go for a young rail fan like me (im 14 btw) But for the SC44 I see them in nothern california and they remind me of the F59phi units
If you want to see them in service still, come to Chicago! They are repainting them! So far 5 are in service but apparently there are 18 more on their way? I saw this in another video.
Metra in Chicago purchased bunch of these, I saw 450 and 454 in Western Avenue
R.I.P Amtrak F59PHIs... they were my favorite units I ever seen...
They are working for Metra Chicago

Lucky me we still have F59phis we’re I live!!
Great video. It is very sad to see them go. To me, the SC-44s should belong to Sound Transit’s link light rail...
Goodbye AMTK F59PHi. But, hey! At least we will see them working for METRA. :D

I live in Illinois and I saw a Metra f59phi train
Oh they will fare very well indeed...
Some fast little cascades

OfficerFourMan I was BORN in 2004, man you have a bit more history with these locomotives as I do.

At The Crossing Productions Amtrak Capitol Corridor San Joaquin and Piedmont still has F59PHIs

This is a new beginning for the PHI's. We promise we will take good care of them here in the hub.
not all Chicago railfans are foamers :( I dont foam
Great vid, very informative!
I dont foam either. I railfan for the pleasure.

Easier said than done, but true
They haven't got rid of all of them. Yet
The Amtrak cascades and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner locomotives have been sold to the metra commuter rail in Chicago Illinois
Nice job on the film man! I know it must suck to lose those to the Chargers, but at least they aren't being scrapped.
Thanks! Yeah, it sucks but it could be very worse.
Trust me I know. We had our share of saves too. The Illinois RY Museum just recieved a former TPW Alco C424 from the scrappers torch. Always nice to see units get rescued from demolition
Some of the former Amtrak Cascades and Surfliner F59s were sent to NCDOT (470 is one of them)
That was in replacement of some of their F59's who went to Colorado for testing. They're now back, and those Cascades/Surfliner F59's are now in Chicago.
@@AtTheCrossingProductions How did you know the Cascades and Surfliner F59s were LEASED to NCDOT?
Benthetrainkid It wasn’t a lease, it was a temporary replacement. The F59’s had already been sold to Metra before then.
They are beautiful engines.

Cool video. Just subbed.
They will missed
Lol! just noticed the description! LOL
Still with Northern California!
Don't worry these things are rolling around Chicago as Metra trains now
What about the f95phi’s for the capital corridor trains? Those trains are owned by amtrak
no, they are owned by the state

Have all of the F59’s already left?
Not yet on the surfline

Ho Scale Rail Productions I know him personally he’s joking

Does Amtrak California still use them

Well there is some good news idk if this is true or not but 468 and 463 will be kept for backup locos
The 463 is already at Metra in Chicago. I'm not sure about the 468, though.
How did you know about Amtrak retaining F59s as backup power? @Oregon Western Railroad Productions
