  • In this episode Caroline and Liz bring you the final words to the jury before they are sent out to consider their verdict.
They have been told it’s up to them which evidence is the most important, and which witnesses they choose to believe.
Lucy Letby’s guilt or innocence in this case, is in their hands.
Lucy Letby denies attempting to murder Baby K who was a tiny baby girl born 15 weeks early.
Follow the trial's evidence just as the jury do, with twice-weekly reports from Daily Mail northern correspondent Liz Hull and broadcast journalist Caroline Cheetham.
In this podcast, they bring you far more detail about what the jury heard, examine key moments of the trial, and conduct exclusive interviews with investigative detectives, victims, and experts.

So many arrogant people who think they know better than two separate 12 person juries because they have read about the case and listened to a podcast. They are unbelievably conceited.

I agree, unless you are there to hear everything, I would go on the assumption that 99% of people would be equally fair in either point, you would make sure the correct verdict is right. You would not want on your conscience you were not completely sure of your conclusion. To convict someone you thought may be innocent is as bad as allowing someone you think guilty be allowed free x x

Go to Crime Scene 2 Courtroom and listen to the full transcripts of Lucy Letby's cross examination, not just selected titbits. Guilty as sin. Make sure that you educate yourself properly before forming your views. Understand that, just as one example, she was exposed in lies by parents as well as staff. The mother of baby E is evidenced to have phoned her husband, reporting that her son was bleeding, at a particular time. This was a critical point of evidence. Letby, who had injured the child and left him to bleed, claimed that the mother visited an hour later .... despite phone evidence that the mother had recounted the incident to her husband.

This hospital did not have to be free of failings in order for Letby to be guilty. Indeed Letby's murderous acts possibly went undetected for longer than they should have because the hospital was imperfect.

Every nurse (and indeed doctor if you think about Shipman) who has murdered patients was convicted on circumstantial evidence. The nature of the job allows nurses and doctors access to vulnerable people in a manner that others do not have such access. The circumstantial evidence in Letby's case was HUGE. And remember: this woman claimed to police she hadn't heard of an embolism killing infants ... yet had been on a course about this topic!
