And now, 15 years later Taylor and Abigail are still friends. Little things like that really tell a lot about a person. Becoming famous and still keeping your best friend from when you were 15
Taylor has explained she wrote Love Story when her parents let her know they did not like the boy in whom she was interested. Taylor said she went upstairs to her bedroom, slammed the door, and wrote Love Story in 15 or 20 minutes.
It's funny how you said that "Today Was A Fairytale" felt like a song on the soundtrack of a cheesy rom-com, because that's just what it was! Taylor wrote it for the 2010 rom-com Valentine's Day, in which she plays a teenage girl, and that's what the song is about. So your assessment was absolutely correct.
"can you imagine her mother when Taylor showed her this song?" actually Taylor talked about it, she made it secretly which at that point of her life was kinda complicated, she wrote it, recorded it and then made a montage of home videos of her when she was small and I think she played it for mama Swift on Christmas or something and her mom was like "oh my god, that's such a cute montage, that song sounds so much like what we have, where did you find it" and Taylor was like "mom...that's my song, I wrote it about us"
Also - she did that song for Mothers Day on the eras tour (her mother was in attendance) and got choked up during the final verse and had to stop for a second 😭
Abigail is the girl Taylor is in the car with in the Picture to Burn music video!!! She’s also in a bunch of the I’m Only Me When I’m With You footage. And their friendship is still going strong today ♥️ Taylor actually revealed at some point that she wrote Fifteen for Abigail to hear only, and never intended to release the music for the general public. But when she played it for Abigail her friend was immediately like “no, you have to put that out” 🥺
@@HeatherJames88also the OG stolen version of fearless is Sh*t that makes the rerecord much better cause the og her voice is not that stable not until speak now.
@@legzzzzz she definitely made songs like i know places, wtny, and ootw, so much better but idk if it's just me but sometimes i'm a sucker for old country taylor in speak now so it was ok for me.
Even though Taylor was originally “country” it was always clear she was inspired by people like Shania Twain who walked that country/pop line. I love seeing you discovery how good her writing has always been, I always say that’s her strongest skill. What really sets her apart from many artists.
I think one of the reasons why I’m so attached to Fearless TV is how warm it feels. Taylor’s mature vocals combined with the fuller sounding production makes for such a high quality re-recorded album. She did so amazing with it, and having the first rerecord be her breakthrough album where I first really heard of her back then feels so personal to me 😭
Change hits way harder knowing the context of it originally being about her working with Big Machine Records and Scott Borchetta back when she was one of the only artists signed to the label, which was brand new and still incredibly small (supposedly there were only around 12 employees at the time). Now, after the masters debacle, without changing a single lyric, the Taylor's Version of it very well fits the narrative of it being about claiming her own work and standing up to the people who took her old albums and sold them out from under her, trying to intimidate her into getting what they wanted.
'Change' was the ending track of the og standard edition, While the 6 songs after that were deluxe tracks and 'Today was a Fairytale' was added to Taylor's Version as it originally wasn't on the album it was a soundtrack song.
When you know this, you can realized how good "Change" was a a closure track... Espectacular... I like to think, this is the reason why this album won AOTY, because, IT WAS!!
You were right about Breathe at first- it's speculated to be about a friend (if I remember right, a member of her band/someone who she did music or tour with). She sang this on the piano at my Eras tour venue for the acoustic set, and it was incredibly beautiful. Forever and Always is epic live. She throws a couch (true story). She also extends the bridge, and it's very angsty and emotional. Untouchable is actually a cover. The original song is by Luna Halo. It's the only song Taylor ever put on one of her albums that's not hers.
This came out at such a pivotal moment of my life. Fifteen and The Best Day always make me cry and this whole thing brings me right back to being a preteen. Great reaction!
Superstar seems to be about John Mayer. No one else fits the lyrics. She idolized him growing up. Then, around the time she wrote the song and released the deluxe version of Fearless, he took advantage of that and reached out to her and they started seeing each other. The rest is history (see Dear John).

@@TheKindleGirl I Googled what I had heard--it's rumored to be about Joe Nichols. I have no idea who he is but this is the guess because the song's lyrics used to have a line about being born in Arkansas.
If you're interested in seeing these some of these songs performed live (including Forever and Always) I recommend Journey to Fearless. It's half concert movie half documentary about Taylor's first tour for this album. It also includes live versions of songs from her debut album. If you love the theatricality of her music, you'll love the theatricality of her performances. She really translates that all really well to the stage.
Love Story and You Belong With Me are some of her greatest songs. She sings them on The Eras Tour and Taylor said she will always sing Love Story at her concerts 🫶🏼
I enjoy watching your reactions to Taylor. You are quite thoughtful and introspective. It is also obvious that you have a keen ear and are quite intelligent. I am impressed. Have a Swift day.
The thing I think everyone needs to remember when listening to "The Way I Loved You" is that the Taylor who wrote this had very little actual relationship experience, and was drawing heavily on YA novels and movies and the like. And YA novels and movies - especially around this time - VERY heavily romanticized this type of thing. They still do, although it's gotten a little bit better. Anyways, what I see in this has a lot more to do with how common this trope was in stories than anything about reality.
in case you didn't know, the regular original album ended with "Change" and from "Jump then fall" on they are the deluxe tracks. also, today was a fairytale was released back in the day (2010) but wasn't included in any actual album, then, when, rerecording, she put it on fearless tv. and YES! today was a fairytale IS in fact a soundrack of a cheesy movie called Valentine's Day.
fearless made me a swiftie back in 2008. when everything started. a whole lifetime of taylor swift. this album will be forever in the most special warm innocent childish loving place of my heart ❤ i was 11, now 26, about to spend my 27th birthday at the eras tour in brasil, seeing her for the first time. full circle moment, i am so emotional sorry hahahaha loved the reaction! can’t wait for speak now, my fav album from her old eras, the pen game is sharp!!!!
I love that this reaction is 2 hours long. ❤ Fearless won Album of the Year at the Grammys when it first came out. Deserve! This is the album that made me a Swiftie back in high school. ❤
"The Way I Loved You" is about The Notebook, specifically about the choice Allie has to make between her two loves. That's why she says "he gets along with my mother, talks business with my father" and that her single friends are jelaous, when Allie's with Lon he is considered a "catch" and she loves him in a confortable way, but he never makes her crazy in love like Noah. That's why she's saying the doesn't love Lon the way she loved Noah, with passion.
As a 12 year old with a breathtaking crush on a beautiful boy who was 4 years older than me, 7 had a LOT of vivid music video style hallucinations set to that song while laying in bed, staring at the moon dramatically.
Fearless is my favorite album of hers. There are so many beautiful songs on there and i used songs from this album to learn on my guitar when i started playing 14 years ago. Fifteen and The Best Day hold very special places in my heart when i think of songs that make me feel warm and emotional.
not sure if anyone has mentioned this but untouchable is actually a cover! it was originally by the band Luna Halo, but Taylor’s cover was so drastically different and creatively changed from the original that they gave her co-writing credits for it!
I just turned 40, and have been a fan of Taylor Swift since her first album in 2006 or so. I am 6 years older, but still felt like I was going through these "eras" in my own way as well. I love the evolution of her albums and sound and I love all her albums, though it was a journey in real time. Although I'm far removed from my teenage years, listening to these early albums in the context of thinking back on my teenage and college years, it takes me to a different time that was somehow simpler and harder at the same time. The innocence and idealism of being 15-20 years old. From fairytales and love stories, to Lavender Haze, "Surreal, I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say No deal, the 1950s shit they want from me I just wanna stay in that lavender haze All they keep askin' me Is if I'm gonna be your bride The only kind of girl they see Is a one-night or a wife"
Omg this video was over two hours long and you didn’t even get to the vault tracks. I forget just how LONG fearless is. I think Fearless is the album that I look back on and really see where Taylor found her grip on how she wants to write songs and also that she was really, really is into toxic relationships from a young age and still seems to struggle with that which tbh is a pretty common affliction.
You being totally silent for the first 90% of Change had me on the edge of my seat lol. I was like, “ok he hates it….or does he like it? He hates it…”but then you felt inspired lol. Tbh when this album came out the first time, I thought Change was an Obama song hahaha…I’m honestly not entirely sure that it wasn’t ever used in that context lol (I was 16 in 2008, spare me your wrath please, other commenters)🫶
@@mathies3598 I just found out they literally used that song for some marketing campaign thing during the 2008 Olympics. But I do think she wrote it about “the music industry”/something like that in general. Now I’m just wondering why I somehow conflated Obamas presidential campaign with the Olympics lol.
you have to watch the lyric videos for the Taylor's Versions of FIfteen and The Best Day!!! they are full of old pictures and memories of Taylor's childhood and teenage years
I always love your analysis and reactions, this didn't disappointed. I'm glad you liked Forever and Always that much, I felt the same the fist time I've heard it.
jim will always apologize on behalf of the immature boys, ☝🏻😂😂😂 it’s so intriguing to see a reaction to taylor swift songs which are very lyrically top tier then jim sits with it and shares. it’s almost like the answer to the questions/feelings taylor writes 😭
What does it mean to go head first? You can also use headfirst in a more figurative way, to describe something that's done impulsively, or in a foolishly hasty manner
Honestly, I've always thought most of the songs on Fearless share a similar message of growing up, how strong emotions can be as a teen. And it seems like there's a consistent theme of what you want not being what you need; that, no matter how important or meaningful something seems at the time, it's not always what's best for us. Like the idea of wanting something that's not good for you and she's trying to work through it. Which is a big thing that a lot of people have to work through in order to mature.
31:35 It is said that Hey Stephen's inspiration was Love and Theft's member Stephen Barker Liles, who made a response song titled "Try To Make It Anyway"
I’m pretty sure in an interview or something Taylor said that The Way I Loved You was about the notebook or something like that. Which kinda makes sense with the lyrics
Jim (about Today Was a Fairytale): It kinda reminded me of like the soundtrack of some of my cheesier rom-coms. XD That's because it is! It's from the soundtrack of the movie "Valentine's Day" (2010), where she actually had an acting role along with her then boyfriend Taylor Lautner
Today Was a Fairytale is actually from the soundtrack of Valentine's Day, where Taylor was with Taylor Lautner in 2010. The album actually ends with The Other Side of the Door.
1:20:00. I can’t even imagine her mother’s reaction to this song and I’m a mother and now a grandmother and I cry every single time I hear it! SO SWEET.
It was her Mother’s Day present to her mom. Recorded it in secret behind her back. She also she made the music video during school lunch breaks. It’s the video for the not taylors.
The thing I love about Taylor is at her core she never changed. Country at the core is three chords and the truth. She brought the Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton song writing vibe of women writing for women to pop. We’ve just gotten to see her writing her story from 14-30s. And that’s why it resonates. And she makes sure her songs are in a range we can all sing in-high or low-while being able to bring her beautiful pure voice to it.
missing the from the vault songs (+ if this was a movie), but thats fine because theyre not really in the OG album :3c hope to see you react to them too in the future :DDDD
Thank you for your interesting comments - especially whe you misunderstand the lyrics or where I disagree with you! I look forward to more of your reactions😊
I read an article about Taylor's parents who quietly separated maybe around 2012. It suggested that some of Taylor's songs might have been written about the distance in her parents' relationship.
He's not literally grabbing her by the head lol. He's grabbing her HAND and pulling her to dance or whatever, and it's kind of fast so her head moves first. I don't know if that makes sense but yeah.
I took it more as a metaphor. Rather than going feet first, which is the more cautious approach, they dove or jumped in head first. They went all in in other words. It's like the phrase, " they just dove right in." Going forward head first (rather than first first) into a relationship or situation is all in and more vulnerable, hence why you have to be "fearless."
Hi Jim! Thanks for reacting to Taylor! I've watched it all. Can you do an album reaction for 2NE1 too and complete my life? You're my favorite reactor here in youtube and I always watch your reactions, we would appreciate it if you would react to our other favorite artists. 🥺
Stephen was a musician for one of the headliners she opened for while supporting her debut album. She was very likely 16 or 17 at the time, not a good idea for Stephen 😂
Love Taylor. After you finish with Taylor. Listen to Shania Twain, I think you will love her vocals. She is called Country but she is so good. Micheal Jackson came to see her in concert.
Fun fact: White Horse was originally not going to be on the album. It wasn’t until the popular tv series Greys Anatomy asked her to play one of her songs and that’s the one she played for them, if it wasn’t on the show it wouldn’t have been in the album. It’s in season 5 episode 1 :)
Here’s the thing about Fearless: It’s what put her on the map. This was her breakout album that shot her through the country world and solidified her fan base at the time. This is where I started to fall in love with Taylor in terms of her relatability and I guess sisterhood{I was 9 years old and kept asking my mom for another sister, needless to say that Taylor and her music came at the right time because she became the “big sister” I never had}. She was the youngest person to win the CMA for Entertainer of the Year at 19 and the youngest person to win the Grammy for album of the year at 19. ‘Love Story’ and “You Belong with Me’ were everywhere, Fearless ended up being #1 for 11 weeks, she started her first ever tour this era where she started in arenas and her very last show was at Gillette Stadium and she ended up becoming the first woman to headline that stadium[i was lucky enough to be there}. It really was the era where all of her dreams came true. Also: It’s funny that you said that “Today was a Fairytale’ sounded like a rom-com soundtrack because that song was featured in the soundtrack for “Valentine’s Day” which starred Taylor. I’m excited for you to see the Interviews that came with this era because she was so humble with these interviews especially with the Kanye stuff post the 2009 VMAs and her stuff with Joe Jonas post breakup during the release party for Fearless on Ellen{“I’m not gonna forgive the person who broke up with me in 27 seconds”. She was so savage in a good way}. I

You being totally silent for the first 90% of Change had me on the edge of my seat lol.
I was like, “ok he hates it….or does he like it? He hates it…”but then you felt inspired lol.
Tbh when this album came out the first time, I thought Change was an Obama song hahaha…I’m honestly not entirely sure that it wasn’t ever used in that context lol
(I was 16 in 2008, spare me your wrath please, other commenters)🫶
Change is some sort of civil rights song to me, but it'd have to be for a demographic she's a part of. but it could also be like Artists vs executives
@@mathies3598 I just found out they literally used that song for some marketing campaign thing during the 2008 Olympics. But I do think she wrote it about “the music industry”/something like that in general.
Now I’m just wondering why I somehow conflated Obamas presidential campaign with the Olympics lol.
I just love that I found your channel. every video is great.
Breathe supposedly is about a member of her band who left
Dude I’ve been waiting for this since you did the debut. I was so stoked to see it pop up.
🦋👑🎼💛
I’m living for these drums like, i looove the drums.
you have to watch the lyric videos for the Taylor's Versions of FIfteen and The Best Day!!! they are full of old pictures and memories of Taylor's childhood and teenage years
Love these reactions so much!!! Thank you!
i have watch your reaction for taylor's re-recored albums 5x now while waiting for folklore , evermore and midnights reactions
I can’t wait until you get to “RED!” Subscribed.
I always love your analysis and reactions, this didn't disappointed. I'm glad you liked Forever and Always that much, I felt the same the fist time I've heard it.
Sorry I meant "You're not sorry" not forever and Always. Both are amazing tho
jim will always apologize on behalf of the immature boys, ☝🏻😂😂😂 it’s so intriguing to see a reaction to taylor swift songs which are very lyrically top tier then jim sits with it and shares. it’s almost like the answer to the questions/feelings taylor writes 😭
I always love your reaction. I can’t wait for more.
What does it mean to go head first?
You can also use headfirst in a more figurative way, to describe something that's done impulsively, or in a foolishly hasty manner
Her voice❤.... she always put me in a dreamlike state.... she has a beautiful tone...
i mean, need i say more
I’m loving these long format videos
Thanks for doing this reaction ❤❤
Honestly, I've always thought most of the songs on Fearless share a similar message of growing up, how strong emotions can be as a teen.
And it seems like there's a consistent theme of what you want not being what you need; that, no matter how important or meaningful something seems at the time, it's not always what's best for us. Like the idea of wanting something that's not good for you and she's trying to work through it. Which is a big thing that a lot of people have to work through in order to mature.
So happy you recognized You’re Not Sorry! I feel it gets lost and it’s such a powerful song. I played this a lot as a teenager lol

It is said that Hey Stephen's inspiration was Love and Theft's member Stephen Barker Liles, who made a response song titled "Try To Make It Anyway"
I’m pretty sure in an interview or something Taylor said that The Way I Loved You was about the notebook or something like that. Which kinda makes sense with the lyrics
I think this is the last Taylor reaction video of yours that I haven’t seen! Do more! 😭 😂they are so good!
Oh my God I missed your Taylor reactions so much 😊
Love Story and You Belong With Me are the hits that solidified Taylor's career
Jim (about Today Was a Fairytale): It kinda reminded me of like the soundtrack of some of my cheesier rom-coms.
XD That's because it is! It's from the soundtrack of the movie "Valentine's Day" (2010), where she actually had an acting role along with her then boyfriend Taylor Lautner
Today Was a Fairytale is actually from the soundtrack of Valentine's Day, where Taylor was with Taylor Lautner in 2010. The album actually ends with The Other Side of the Door.
This album stands the test of time. It is beautiful and relatable. It is true to life experiences for many. Love your observations.
i love your calming energy and your insights, such good taste in music.
And she makes sure her songs are in a range we can all sing in-high or low-while being able to bring her beautiful pure voice to it.
missing the from the vault songs (+ if this was a movie), but thats fine because theyre not really in the OG album :3c
hope to see you react to them too in the future :DDDD
she said she wrote love story in 20 minutes after reading romeo and juliet and being sad about the end hahahaha it’s a bop! i lovvvvve it too
Hi! I enjoy listening to you while listening the music of Tay! I love your show! 👍🙏💕😘
I don't know if that makes sense but yeah.
right? lol
Jim: God damn im a sucker for a good love song
Me: YES EXACTLY I LOVE IT
She was very likely 16 or 17 at the time, not a good idea for Stephen 😂
my broke self has been waiting for this video on youtube since your reaction to self-titled. today was a fairytale 😃
Love Taylor. After you finish with Taylor. Listen to Shania Twain, I think you will love her vocals. She is called Country but she is so good. Micheal Jackson came to see her in concert.
"is this about Stephen?" has me dead. you know you're a swiftie when you start hypothesizing who her songs are about lmao
Today Was A Fairytale was indeed a soundtrack to a "cheesy romcom" 😭😂
Thank you very much, Sir! 👍💕🙏💝😘
I am not complaining on the long videos. I actually like it. It feels like I’m listening to a podcast.
2:01:48 wait till u find out the song is actually an OST of a movie called Valentines Day
I don't want a Red Album reaction
I NEED a Red album reaction 😁
Funny ‘cause Today was a Fairytale was actually a rom-com OST
I feel like I remember hearing breathe was about a band member leaving the band and moving on.
So amazing their still best friends..
I remember when I listened to Tell Me Why and all I did was crying because it reminded me of my parents and how they treated me. And each other lol
Love story is her father telling the boy to stay away from daughter. "Stay away from juliet (my daughter)"
Here’s the thing about Fearless:
It’s what put her on the map.
I
Untouchable is a cover btw.
I remember reading somewhere that when the original Fearless came out she texted Stephen and said "Hey track 4."
Loved this 🫶🏻✨ You should react to Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan it’s the album of the year in my opinion!!!
