New cars are generally better than the old ones, I mean how else would you convince people to buy them? But there are a couple of models that are exception to this rule.

The eclipse is by far the biggest letdown. Going from a two-door Evo to a SUV. Shame on you Mitsubishi.
They could have called it anything else and it wouldn’t be as much of a flop

Edgar I entirely agree with you. They should have just gone with a different name. As for other vehicles...yeah some have gotten worse. There is room for improvement. And as for the dude who has a family member who bought the SUV, we aren't hating on the SUV, just the horrible misuse of a nameplate that should have never been put on it.
And the new ford puma, its so ugly...
Juan Valdez the majority of people don’t buy coupes anymore, they buy SUVs and crossovers because they offer lower payments per month, longer warranties and are generally seen as safer and more family friendly vehicles. Even if the Eclipse came back as a coupe it would be dead in the water, and remember the Eclipse only really thrived because of Chrysler and was mostly aimed at the USDM market, so it never got an official release anywhere else. The Eclipse needed to evolve in order to stay around and Mitsubishi needed a car that would sell so that they don’t go under and pull a Houdini.
Maybe if enough people buy the Eclipse Cross, maybe they’ll build another “classic” Eclipse. And aside from the rear end of the Eclipse Cross being butt fucking ugly, the rest of it isn’t that bad. It’s certainly better inside and drives much more comfortably than it has any right to be.
If they did an Evolution model and cranked up the power by just a little bit and redesigned the rear, they may have a hit on their hands in the hot hatchback/crossover market. Whether Nissan allows them to do so remains to be seen.

@@EdyAlbertoMSGT3 especially for a sports car, and anyway I don't think the diesel v6 sounds too bad, it's actually pretty loud, and certainly Audi will add something in the exhaust to make a better sound.
I got an older A5 V6 and it sounds better than the newer S5. Also got more displacement.

@@JinteiModding follow the market, follow the money. Everybody making and selling more SUVs, therefore so will Ford. People buying new cars seem to want them as well, and soon if you want a new car it'll a SUV...cause that's all they're making.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio looks just like the Giulia if it was an SUV, and yet, it's a new car, rather that picking the Giulia and making a Giulia SUV, killing the main reason of the Giulia (style and speed)

If you ask me, the Eclipse died when they introduced the demure V6, a platform that was shared with the Dodge Avenger. It got even worse when it became an SUV. The current Mitsubishi lineup is backed by its reduced market share; heavily on the decline for 30 years.
I had a 1990 FWD that I spent way too much money on tuning. Dyno had it at 385 hp…the 1G 4G63 6 bolt was an AMAZING engine…then they slowly started making it shit.
The new eclipse is an insult to the OG from the 90s

They share something though, they are both ugly

The Chevrolet Impala should have been on the list because it went through the same thing the Charger did but the new Charger is very fast and somewhat cool

The Dart they could’ve done better. I mean the new one is like a sporty competitor to the Toyota Corolla. But I agree the Charger is still fun. It’s my dream car, and I’m not letting anyone change that. We all got our ideas

If you want to off-road one, buy one with 4WD and get a lift kit for it and throw some bead locks on there and mudgrabber tires.

Alfa Romeo 155, such a nice car there was a variant that got the same engine and 4wd system from the Lancia Delta, and the 155 Dtm was great. Forza Italia🇮🇹

We never had an Eclipse sold in Egypt before, and a couple of years ago when I saw that a new one was coming out in a street ad. I was so excited and could not believe it would happen, the street ad was actually using the curiosity factor by putting just a name "Eclipse" and a glimpse of the tail lights, and then I was faced with the bitter reality! it is like they wanted car enthusiasts to hate it intentionally

Yeah, especially Porsche!! It is one of the few companies that gets better with age and the new 718 is still extremely cool!! I don't think it should have made it on this list. There are many other cars whose latest models are far more disappointing than their predecessors. eg: the Supra

@@viralhodgepodge2843 No, my father and I first test drove a 2015 Porsche Cayman S with the 3.4 Flat 6, But my father likes torque moren than high revs. So he wanted to testdrive one with a turbo. So we went to a different company and testdrove the 718. My father sells BMW Z4 E89's and maybe Porsche's in the future.
Mitsubishi itself is a letdown, they canceled the EVO, canceled the 3000gt, and turned almost any good car they had into either a crossover or an suv

I think that the Ferrari is a 512 - "successor" of the Testarossa, but more really a not too inspired face-lift than a new model. It did not sell well.
Not to be confounded with the gorgeous 512 BB (Berlinetta Bialbero), which was the Testarossa predecessor and a very nice car.
But if it is a 348, it fits well enough
Personally, I do not think that the second Lotus Elan is a bad car, FWD and Isuzu engine notwithstanding.
The 155 as a bad successor to the ALFA Romeo Type 116 chassis family {Alfetta to 75}? I approve.

As much as I do agree on the Eclipse, and the Mercedes SL, the rest of the takes are the usual childish "Downsizing bad" and "Practicality bad" and appeal to nostalgia. But whether you want to accept it or not, not everything was better in the past.
1. Porsche 718
The 718 is objectively the better car compared to the 981 in terms of both performance, adhering to emissions, and features. Also thanks to the turbocharged engine, it has the low/mid-rpm grunt(and surprisingly minimal lag) the older cars relatively lacked. Yes, it does sound worse compared to the older F6, but you can't deny it is one of the best sounding four-cylinder engines out there. Plus, the homage to the old 4-cylinder 718 race cars is a bonus as well.
2. Dodge Charger
I agree that the mid-80s Chargers were disappointing, like most American cars of the era. But the new Charger Daytona, particularly the fourth generation, the Daytona is not just a 'name' slapped to a normal Charger. The 2017 cars came with bigger 5.7L/6.4L engines with sport suspension, better tires, and custom brake lining on top of the Scat Pack. And the 2020 Charger Daytona? It has the 717hp Hellcat engine with other exclusive features, need I say more? Yes, it is a 4 door, but it still chugs like a proper muscle car.
3. Subaru Impreza WRX STi
If you were to complain about cars getting heavier and using the old engine, this is not the only car to criticize. But the Subaru Impreza WRX STi was some of the few cars that managed to save the costs yet put out impressive performance at the same time. Over time, the AWD system was extensively improved, remember that the 1st gen cars had a simple clutch based rear LSD, while the latest STi boasts Variable Torque Distribution, which was unimaginable back in the 90s. Also, complaining about the hatchback makes no sense, considering hatchbacks made most of the sales especially in the North American market. The reasoning gets even worse, when you start cherry-picking and compare it to the AMG A45 which is way more expensive than the average hot hatch/saloon the WRX STi compares with. Well at least that was better than comparing it to a brand new Carrera or the NSX at the least...
4. Lancia Delta
The thing people miss out with the Lancia Delta is that the Delta itself is actually just a normal Italian econo-box. And while the limited production homologation specials were impressive, making around 200hp, they were literally limited-edition homologation cars. The Nuovo Delta HF, which made 193hp makes literally 50 more hp than the old HF and the Golf GTi of the era. With Lancia having no need to make expensive homologation cars for rallying, this is nothing strange, nor that the Nuovo Delta HF was disappointing to start with.
5. Audi S5
Yes, I do love the old V8 growl, and the 'bad guy' feel of the old S5. But the new one isn't any worse. Yes, it has a V6 instead, but it's a completely redesigned twin-turbo unit packaged in a 'Hot V' style. Although it does make the same hp with the old V8 Audi S5, it has a broader powerband and better fuel economy, making it better to drive. Plus, with a state-of-the-art Quattro system and better features overall, it still makes it an overall appealing car. Although I wouldn't argue it was a great jump, it didn't get worse to say at the least.
As much as I enjoyed your past videos, this video has been quite disappointing for me in terms of the reasoning you had with most of the cars. Whether you want to accept it or not, the world is changing and we cannot be imbued in the warmth of nostalgia forever. As much as things were good in the past, things do get better with modern development as well. Looking forward to see more good videos in the future.
The secret behind creating engaging videos is to involve emotions, not just the objective numbers. Anyone can google those and compare. But to envoque feelings in viewers I need to pick a narrative (nostalgia, downsizing, noise) and just go along with it.
In another upcoming video about best Diesel cars ill be saying praises about the new S5 because it really is one of the best diesel cars out there.
So it's all about the narrative.
Remember when TopGear was doing an ad for VW Scirocco TDI? Jeremy complained that they ruined an interesting car by putting a diesel engine in, and VW suggested they should look at it as if they improved the diesel by giving it an interesting body. 😉

Audi's diesel v6 also has a great sound, my dad had an a6 3.0 tdi and you could hear its sound from 1 mile

@@TopCarsTV I know this isn’t related but I want to tell you Stype there were actually two more Chargers built between 1971-1978, but both of them are far worse than the second gen tbh.

The 718 Cayman GTS is available with a 4.0L Flat-6 now. It’s definitely fixed the 4-cylinder issue.

I don’t really get the trend of how crossovers are so popular. They are literally just more ugly lifted hatchbacks. If I wanted a big vehicle, I would’ve gotten a pickup truck. If I wanted a family car, I would’ve just bought a minivan.

This may not be relevant for US market. But in 60s, Skoda was making Felicia 2door convertible. For some time, it was the only convertible car you could buy in the entire eastern Europe. And it was fantastic. I had oportunity to drive perfectly restored one and it was great experience. It had Miata vibe long before Miata was even a thing. But in 90s, Skoda created another Felicia - 4door hatchback. It was cheap, reliable and quite nice to drive for the time and price. But it didn't look nice and the last thing designers had in mind while designing it, was fun.
New C63 is a massive letdown
The Dodge Charger 1969 is one of my favorite muscle cars and 2006 Dodge Charger R/T and SRT8 are also my favorite.
I was just waiting for him to say something about the Eclipse being an SUV. I am not disappointed.

Porsche didn't replace the flat 6 with a turbo 4 because it was lighter and more powerful. The main reason was emissions.
The turbo 4 produces less emissions than the flat 6, so it was used due to stricter emission laws.
It's got more power despite being smaller than the earlier flat 6 because of turbo, otherwise the flat 6 would be more powerful.

both M135i and M140i F20/F21 were the only RWD 6 pot in the market, now the F40 has only FWD/AWD and inline 4

I have no idea why do people keep knocking the Mustang 2.
Mine had a 4-cylinder 4-speed and it got 40.2 miles a gallon. At the same time I had a 71 Mach 1 with the 351 Cleveland 4 speed.
Because they are ignorant. They don't realize that the Mustang II outsold the previous generations, had better steering and suspension, and that there would be no Mustang today if not for the Mustang II. Personally, I would rather have a Mustang II over any of the Fox bodies because they still looked like a Mustang. I think the Fox bodies were the most boring looking "muscle cars" ever made. It's like someone asked a kid to draw a car, they made a rectangle with wheels and called it a Mustang.
People also go by the false narrative that the Mustang II was little more than a gussied up Pinto when that was not the case. The frame was stretched and so many new parts were added that they hardly had any parts in common.

The Dodge Charger is still an excelent car, especially if painted black + push bars + lightbar. I prefer the 2004 and 2013 models although they might've shifted towards family and practicality.

BIGGEST SMOKE true bmw did a lot to help revive the Supra name but I have a feeling that Toyota could have done a lot better to make the Supra look like the concept and prototypes before it

I know it‘s quite specific, but as someone who lives in Germany, I feel like the Diesel S5 (also S4 and S6) makes some sense. It‘s perfect for long blasts on the Autobahn. You can drive it full throttle all day without having to refuel, and fuel is insanely expensive over here. Also, it being a Diesel means you could have it as a company car.

i agree that present subaru is expensive and same horsepower, but the hot hatchback cars are super expensive and too much power. plus when you are going to modify cars why the factory should make more powerful engine. sadly the 2.5 engine is gone.

Where the Dodge Dart on this list? It was a badass muscle car from the 60s and 70s, and it name what used for a modernized Neon. It was the Dart that first used the Demon name. Also Toyota Celica needs to be on this list.

I disagree with the Audi 5-Series. That car oozes class with dem sharp looks.
Also, don’t forget that Eclipses were and still are fun cars even when the upgrades like AWD or a Turbo.

I would have added a Ford Puma. From 1997 to 2002 it was cheap agile coupe. It was based on a Fiesta but had a awesome 1.7 with 125 hp. Now it's a crossover with 1.0 3 cylinder EcoBoost.

I personally liked the SL R230 facelift too, especially on the super wide-boi Black Series. However the R231 was just... hideous...
Same thing with the A5. I still believe it is one of the nicest cars ever designed in the very first, original coupe form by Walter De Silva. Everything they did to the car later, S-Line, S, RS bodykits, convertible and sportback, nothing ever made it look any nicer. Aggressive yeah, in case of the S and RS but the sportback bodystyle even butchered some of the lines that were so nice on the coupe. The new models are just empty husks remaining of the car that once was.

Well, the Eclipse had transmission from a Galant, no AYC or other Evo stuff! The S5 got a V6 already in the first gen for the Sportback immediately and for coupes after the facelift. And finally, the Charger is still an amazing muscle car, why would it be there?!

In Europe BMW replaced the little hatchback F20 M140i with the F40 M135i. So you had a longitudinal 3 litre, six cylinder turbo engine with a claimed 335 horsepower (a figure frequently found to be pessimistic!) coupled to a fantastic smooth and fast 8 speed ZF automatic gearbox driving the rear wheels. Many regions even had an Xdrive option for AWD. Now, nobody thinks the M140i was some razor sharp 'M' car out the factory. It had its own little chassis quirks, but it did have that drivetrain USP and big potential for aftermarket tuning. They replaced it with a transverse four cylinder two litre turbo engine with 302 horsepower driving all wheels via a 7 speed dual clutch. Ok, so the new model has a limited slip diff but honestly it's worse. It's not as fun or as interesting. It's fast, efficient and well built. But who cares when there are so many other choices using the same formula? Unfortunately for BMW several tests have shown an M140i completely battering the new car in 0-60 tests as well as rolling tests exactly as you would expect. You would be mad to 'trade up' to the newer model.
As a late correction, you can still get the Audi S5 with a petrol engine if you take the convertible version in Europe
