I've heard they don't want to call it "terrorism" because of insurance coverage. Something about not paying because terrorism isn't covered... go figure, a rich insurance company doesn't want to pay.
I can understand the reason why they haven't called it, but as you say those definitional nuances are ignored by the press when the suspect isn't a white person.
Great reporting the Fact is any kind bombing / act of violence like those people who tried kidnap the Michigan Governor is a act of terror no matter who commit it or tried to commit it
I saw early headlines that mentioned potential domestic terror, then headlines that said “apparent suicide bombing”, then it was “deliberate bombing/ explosion”. Seems like it should have gone in the opposite order.
I don't understand the need to call it 'terrorism'. The man killed himself in the blast and caused a lot of property damage but took no lives but his own. Does a label make this different?
If this was Chicago, the national guard would have been brought in... wow.....AP is a joke, really.. but the knife attacks in uk were considered terrorism???
It will take the media unapologetically calling it domestic terrorism and ignoring any questioning of the term by anyone being interviewed on the subject. and stop asking why it's not called that because we know why and then make the statement that the one refusing to call it domestic terrorism is supporting and giving support and aid to the terrorists by not calling them that. answer no responses to any objections of the observation and when the interview is terminated by the interviewee, sum up by reiterating what has been said and identifying the interviewee as the person and their status and describe them as having presented themselves as someone in line with the terrorist and their actions and meaning. And let that be the end of it. If there is any further questioning later by the interviewee, hold them to the fire. It's their job to answer questions, not the interviewers.
It is not a question of colour or religion (that is so lame, I thought you were better than that.), it is the fact that his actions have led to this result. He can't condemn it in the same way he cannot praise it. Have we forgotten "there are good people on both sides" already?
Why do you want to call it that? What does it help? I can't see that it was terrorism. Terrorists have a political purpose. They threaten populations in order to control their behaviour. This guy didn't state any position that we know of--the people who were directly affected by the blast didn't know of any. He didn't make any demands. If he's just a mentally ill guy who commits an elaborate suicide, it may be a problem, but it's not terrorism. Actually, I think the word 'terrorism' is so frequently misused, it would be better to give it a rest for a while.
Seems like the media are trying to wait and see if he was a Democrat or republican supporter before they start throwing that word around... We all know why.
