Ryu, this was my favorite game growing up. I am so excited to see you playing it! Please record the whole playthrough!! And I listen to the ost all the time as well :). The life potion and power potion are permanent stat boosters, btw. ;)
Holy crap, never expected you to play this game. I love it, it's still one of my all-time favourite JRPG's. The music is superb, the cast is great and the puzzles are beyond amazing. Hope you enjoy it as well. By the way, I do recommend watching the game's startup cutscene before the menus pop up. It shows off a tiny bit of story of what happens just before the game starts. Also a few basics: > First strike is dependant on position that you face and that the enemy faces in when you engage. If you face the enemy's back, it's 100% a surprise attack. From the side it's not guaranteed, but a high chance. Of course, the reverse is also true for enemies and they can also gain an advantage. > MGR = Magic Resistance. > You can press X (SNES controller) when highlighting an item or weapon for a description. Can be done both in menus and in battle. > It should be fine to just kill enemies that give you a hard time avoiding them and still get a bit more challenge from being underleveled. Do be careful when killing cube enemies though, they give loads of experience so try to avoid killing them (granted, you do only encounter them in a few spots in the game). > Though for the real challenge... I recommend to try and beat the Ancient Cave after you've finished the game. Don't worry about overleveling in it, that's practically impossible to do beyond the lower floors and on the higher floors the enemies are so dangerous that even a full party with the best weapons and defense and max level could be wiped with ease. Beating the Ancient Cave requires strategy and some luck, no amount of combat prowess will get you through with ease.
We need a minimally edited version of this - I'd love to see an actual full play through! Please post an episode 2 and leave in more of the actual play - these could easily be over an hour and I'd watch them!
Keep playing this wonderful, legendary game. This was my all time favorite JRPG. Such wonderful flashbacks seeing this game played again. Thank you Ryu.
Yessss Lufia II! I used to rent this game from blockbuster over multiple weeks. I would always hope that my save file was still on the cartridge. I always loved the idea of the capsule monsters!
I would love to watch a whole play through. I think this is one my top three favorite SNES games. It has amazing puzzles and like you said in this episode, there is great music.
Never thought I'd see Ryu playing this one! It's Wanks with his special hero catchphrase: "It's Wankin' Time!!" Also, love the top-tier voice-acting! 😄
Wow. This is a total surprise! One of my favorite SNES games! And one of the few games that actually got me teary-eyed! I hope to see a full play-through!
Definitely would like to see more of this game. I remember spending hours and hours going through the ancient cave when I was growing up. Never beat the ancient cave though until a couple years ago finally
You have my attention, friend. You are playing my favorite game of all-time (Daughter named Erim). This game doesn't get enough love. Thanks for trying it!
cool to see a bit of this! I played it like 20 years ago so i dont remember much about the game, except that it was pretty fun but also pretty hard in some places. I also still play the OST from time to time!
I'm late by a month, but wow, never expected to see this here. Lufia2 is one of my favorites, if not my top favorite, game ever. Hope you keep going with it at some point.
Lufia 2?!?! This game is such a classic! The nostalgia is coming back hard! The OST of this game is just sooo good! Can't wait for more Lufia 2 content! (and along with the SMM content as well! xP) This game has great gimmick features in this game, the more you explore the more you'll see how nifty and cool this game is!
Omg I've suggested this one several times to you, never thought for a sec you'd play it!! Love the music and characters. Tell me how well you do in the ancient cave, the ultimate dungeon! ;)
Yooo no way! This was easily my favorite RPG as a kid (sorry SMRPG)! From what I remember, this game was well known for its puzzles and music (the soundtrack slaps, especially that boss theme). The 2010 DS remake, while hugely different, isn't too shabby either. Definitely looking forward to this as a series.
Favorite RPG! damn this makes me want to play again! Strong is a heal spell. yes you will have to grind at least somewhat. Noneexisting hero pretty much summed up what I wanted to say as well. :) as the old man said. there will be puzzles where you are going to HAVE to kill enemies to progress. The battle menu is kind of confusing but makes more sense later on. up is switch position, bottom is escape, middle is "fight" entering fight gives you Up spells, left Items, Right defend, Center basic attack, Bottom is "Ikari" so Anger points LOL. Just think of bottom as EP and it will make sense later. its why your equipment shows up when you click it. This is my favorite game, I would love to see you play more.
My first anime game this was. The sinistral battle theme is still one of my all time favorite battle music tracks. Wife also liked this game, especially the power ball minigame in the casino and the ancient cave.
This is one of my favorite games ever. The story, the music, the puzzles, everything is top tier SNES JRPG excellence. As far as RPG dungeons go, this game is the GOAT. Also be sure to watch the cutscene that plays during the games startup! Relevant to the story.
Rare indeed to see someone enjoying this for the first time, one of my favorites. There are a few dangerous bosses littered throughout so maybe don't skip too many battles, especially once you have a larger party. The real challenge comes from the puzzles.
This game series was my first ever game I ever owned. Are you going to play the first Lufia game for the SNES too? That one was also great. Love all you do! Please continue to play this series!
MGR is magic resistance, GUTS affects how quickly the IP bar fills (for special attacks later) and affects something you havent come across yet. Also, dont worry about over leveling, the bosses tend to be hard, and the only way to really over level is to do a LOT of grinding. I think you wont be disappointed if you decide to play this one through fully. Also, this is technically the prequel to Lufia 1, so if you dig this, it may spur interest in playing that one as well.
I love this game. I never expect to see it, but man is it a treat when I do One tip you'll need for this game, press "X" in the menu to look at items, spells, equipment... so you can see what equipment has IP skills, or what spells do what. As for stats... STR + Weapon atk adds to your ATP (Attack Power) GUT + Armor adds to your DFP (Defense Power) INT is spell damage, MGR is Magic Resistance, and AGL is how fast you act in a round
As an adult I'm guessing the story is way more bare bones than I remember as a kid, but this had my favorite ending to any RPG ever, so I hope you see it through.

i vaguely remember playing this game as a kid but i never managed to get much far in it
The best music for this game is when your walking around while inside the final dungeon an the music when your fighting gades erin chaos an the leader of the sin
Yes. We need an entire playthrough series of this game. This is, by far, one of my all-time fave RPGs.
Ryu, this was my favorite game growing up. I am so excited to see you playing it! Please record the whole playthrough!! And I listen to the ost all the time as well :).

The Ancient Cave is pretty much a Rogue Like Mode inside of the game. I had a lot of fun with it.
I wrote to nintendo power in the 90s when I couldn’t get past a puzzle in this game and I got a letter back! One of my all time favorite games. 🎉
We need a minimally edited version of this - I'd love to see an actual full play through! Please post an episode 2 and leave in more of the actual play - these could easily be over an hour and I'd watch them!
Man I hope this is a regular upload. This is a childhood favourite
Keep playing this wonderful, legendary game. This was my all time favorite JRPG. Such wonderful flashbacks seeing this game played again. Thank you Ryu.
Strong = heal, and yes the life and power potions are permanent stat increases.
Love this game. Very traditional JRPG with a lot of unique features.
Underrated gem.

Also, love the top-tier voice-acting! 😄

Wow. This is a total surprise! One of my favorite SNES games! And one of the few games that actually got me teary-eyed! I hope to see a full play-through!

This game is an absolute treat! I would 100% watch you do a full playthrough.
This is 1 of my all-time fav games! Glad you are playing it
Definitely would like to see more of this game. I remember spending hours and hours going through the ancient cave when I was growing up. Never beat the ancient cave though until a couple years ago finally
You have my attention, friend. You are playing my favorite game of all-time (Daughter named Erim). This game doesn't get enough love. Thanks for trying it!

Yooo no way! This was easily my favorite RPG as a kid (sorry SMRPG)! From what I remember, this game was well known for its puzzles and music (the soundtrack slaps, especially that boss theme). My first anime game this was. The sinistral battle theme is still one of my all time favorite battle music tracks. Wife also liked this game, especially the power ball minigame in the casino and the ancient cave.

One of the all time greats! Amazing game
I was just thinking about going back through these 2 games.
There is a secret dungeon near the end of the game that's one of the first rogue-likes within an rpg ever made.
Hell ya, love this game!
Hey Ryu, great video as always, would love to watch you play the gba castlevanias or the NDS castlevania games sometime
Playthrough please! 😁
Noice. Glad to see you give Lufia a chance

13:53 Peppy has entered the chat
“Do a barrel roll!”
Oh this is a rare treat, peak SNES rpg right there along with the obvious classics.
Yoooooo this is one of my favorite games ever!
MGR is magic resistance, GUTS affects how quickly the IP bar fills (for special attacks later) and affects something you havent come across yet. Can't wait for you to meet my childhood hero, Dekar!
Happy birthday Notorious Big.
I love this game. I never expect to see it, but man is it a treat when I do
One tip you'll need for this game, press "X" in the menu to look at items, spells, equipment... so you can see what equipment has IP skills, or what spells do what.
As for stats... STR + Weapon atk adds to your ATP (Attack Power) GUT + Armor adds to your DFP (Defense Power)
INT is spell damage, MGR is Magic Resistance, and AGL is how fast you act in a round
Keep going. Looks like a fun game
More of This game. Looks great. 🔥
As an adult I'm guessing the story is way more bare bones than I remember as a kid, but this had my favorite ending to any RPG ever, so I hope you see it through.

Best hidden gem of the snes.

A prequel to Lufia 1 (unusual back then)

Great SNES rpg. Far from the top ones in terms of graphics, but right there in all the other aspects.
High-pitch Ryu voice? Lets goooooo XD
How have I never seen this!
It's one of my favorite snes rpgs. Suscribing for more of the series!
The best music for this game is when your walking around while inside the final dungeon an the music when your fighting gades erin chaos an the leader of the sin
Please do a full play through!!!😊
