This is such a great tutorial for beginners! I've come through a lot of other videos and got really overwhelmed with the pace and lack of clarity but you explain everything so slowly and precisely that I got it the first try! Thank you so much, you're an amazing teacher! ❤
I’m constantly amazed at the thumbs down!! I get them too, but good gravy! This is a great video! Shouldn’t have gotten even one thumbs down. Some folks are just jealous I guess!
Agreed. Even if they didn't agree with all of the techniques shown (or whatever), someone went out of their way (in many cases) to design something nice and take the time to share it with us. If they don't appreciate that, they should just move on.
Every big journey starts with the one little step so...today I grabbed my needles and made a one row. I was excited. Thank you for sharing this easy to understand and follow instruction. 💜
Me and my sister learned how to knit when we were children-(about 10-11 years old-our cousin taught us how.) The only thing is that we don't do continental knitting, but English style. We've gotten away from knitting for MANY YEARS, but in 2018, we picked it back up which was truly amazing in how we actually STILL remembered how to knit! Our goal was to make scarves and shawls, and to this day now, our goals were achieved! I now have a few shawls that I have made, and am working on quite a few now! This has been such a blessing to be knitting!
I have crocheted since I was a kid. I’ve always wanted to learn to knit but it’s so intimidating. This is the best tutorial I’ve seen! I’ll be knitting by the end of the day! Thank you!!
I have been crocheting for years but never knitted before. Great tutorial and totally doable. I also listen to audio books while I crochet and smiled when you mentioned that.
You caught me pulling! I've been worried that my last stitch was so loose, but I'm pushing on. I'm sure if I keep up the practice, it will get better. This was a great video! Thanks!
You are such a good teacher! So easy to follow. I get frustrated and go back to crochet but, watching this makes me want to pick up my needles again. Thank you!
Crochet, I can help you with. Ive been crocheting since I was 10 years old. Knitting is much harder to do. I brought Ashleigh new yarns and i plan to make the fantasy, neighbors hood, and air force one (actually people move), i'm calling it air force one because my niece is in the air force and it's all the air force colorways.
hey there I don't know if all see this or not but I wanna tell u this: I was supper noob that I tried to knit a scarf two other times in the past and I never finished even half of a yarn! but with ur video I'm almost finishing a scarf the way u explain and encourage is supper nice and made me want to keep doing it. its supper calming and beautiful. I simply wanted to thank you. wish u all the best
I watched so many videos and i tried following it but I never got em right. Nobody actually cared to explain that every row has to start with just slipping off the first stitch and we need not do the 'yarn around thing' . So Thank you. So sooo much for explaining it. You did it perfectly well. Thank you. Really ❤️
I learned to knit with this video. I had to restart over and over but i got it. I am an avid crocheter, but wanted a challenge. Im halfway through making this scarf. I didn't have too much trouble with tension bc of my crochet expertise.
Ty soo much! I’m only young and I’ve found all the other tutorials to hard to understand but with I few tries of this tutorial I actually can knit ty am much!
Ohhh my goddddd You are amazing ...Love you this is just taught me something .....my mother wanted to teach me .....but she passed away ....I am crying.Love you ....Keep doing what you are doing ....😭😭😍😍😘😭
Sameee... I wanted to knit a scarf for my mum but now she isn't with me anymore. But I'm still going to learn it and give those scarves to poor people which would've made my mum happy. May you find patience and your mother's soul rest in peace
I was use to crocheting.. this was my first time knitting and I made this scarf with the same color . I just finished it . Thank you so much for the easy step by step instructions!!!! I love knitting 😁😁
I first learned knitting many years ago (my mother taught me basic knitting when I was still a child); but somehow had trouble with crocheting. I used to often drop stitches on the ends of my projects, because with crochet the edges were sort of "rounded off" (maybe I forgot to "chain up" for the next row?); and it was hard to tell where the rows began and ended--whereas with knitting, all of the stitches are right there on the needle, easily countable and not-so-easily lost (well, unless they accidentally slip off the tip, which is aggravating; but I digress). But now as an adult, I recognize that crocheting is *Sooooo* Much Faster!! Plus only working with the one short(er) needle (and just one, or a few stitches at a time), crocheted projects are much easier to shape (for non-rectangular designs); and for larger projects such as afghans. In my experience, the only real advantage knitting has over crochet is that the resulting fabric is more elastic, with a tighter "weave" that is more difficult to obtain with crochet. My mother's favorite project was a chevron-patterned afghan that she used to crochet as gifts for friends and family. I'm here because I want to get back into both knitting and crocheting; and hopefully get past the long-standing "roadblocks" (like misshapen purl stitches) that have been holding me back from completing all but the simplest designed projects.
You are, by far, the BEST instructor that I have watched, so far! You get right to the actual knitting lesson. You are clear, concise and a patient instructor. Keep up the great work!! Tfs!! ❤️
I learned how to knit from you!! Thank you!! I just only wish that you made more new beginner knitter videos. I chose to learn to knit from you because you are a continental knitter. But anyways thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️🥰❤️❤️❤️🌞🌞
Just discovered your video and I’m impressed. You make it so easier for beginners like me in knitting. I like crochet but I think I’ll like knitting better . You are so patient and your explanation is so clear. Thank you for this great tutorial, I love it. I already subscribed and am a fan. Thank you also for sharing your talent with us.
Love your instructions! I've watched other videos, and how to cast on. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of a long tail cast on. I am a brand new knitter. For now, I am on my first scarf. I like the way you explain the process. Thank you.
I actually tried knitting first before crocheting, and I keep doing my knit so tight, not to mention the needle I used wasn't really good in quality, so I gave up and moved on to crocheting. But the result of knitting is really good though, so I might try again someday with this tutorial 😂
I have recently learned how to knit and I have tried a couple of different ways and there is a titular video that says "continental knitting is for crocheters", you could get a lot of good help there. Also learn how to English purl for those vast rows where you have to purl all the way back over. There is also one video I found that shows how to "reverse knit", which is a good imitation of a purl, that according to master knitter Roxanne on let's purl together channel, whose video it is, "it does not replace a true purl where a purl is called for in particular pattern designs but it will do well for those vast spanses that called for you to purl". In case you're wondering why I'm picking on the purl... purling is knitting the back side of a knit stitch from the front so that it looks like the back. Purl is the back side of a knit stitch, only you're doing it from the front facing it on the back side of your work because you have knit down one stick and now you have to do the other side. Many basic just the Norwegian purl but it's a lot of winding around and it's hard to do and you can loose your tension and have wonky spaces between your stitches that change. Believe me it is possible to learn how to purl stitch incontinental style by employing your thumb rather than your middle finger the way most people will show, I have seen Russian women do it while crocheting cotton and all in a traditional way instead of the Russian way which changes the orientation of your stitches to Eastern instead of Western. I have found that if I Russian purl I also have to do the Russian "grandma way" of knitting on the back side of my needles - which is not a problem. Just different than the typical way anyone in North America would teach. If you do regular continental knit stitch the right leg of the loop is always in front of the stick/needle which is Western: If you do Russian purl, it changes the orientation and puts the left leg forward, which is Eastern... which is why you have to do the knit stitch on the back of your needles. This is the easiest kind of knitting in the world! The way you do each stitch Enters the right hand side of the loop and is mirrored by the way you do the opposite stitch and the coolest thing about it is when you do whichever stitch it rotates the orientation from east to west And so it's always the way it should be. This probably changes if you're doing a rib stitch but with whichever orientation you are working on in your following row you always must work whatever type of stitch according to the orientation that it is in at the moment in the way it was work before you can switch from Eastern to Western as long as you always remember that. And none of this may make sense if you've never done any of the things that I've described here but you will understand it if you do.
This is great I’m a crocheter but always wanted start knitting again my nanny taught me when she was Alive but haven’t done in forever so this is great to help and start with weekend project .
My scarf is going to be small for only test to see how it would look when I want to knit mine so keep it up I really learned from you because my friends at school didn't want to teach me so thank you very much I really appreciate.🤗👏
You are such and awesome teacher. I always try to learn but for some reason I couldn't get it but watching you do it this way looks easy. So thank you I will try to make this scarf.1🙏❤
I've noticed that a lot of people pull their yarn from the center of the skein. I actually tried that once before but it didn't work for me because it got tangled so I just pull it from the outside of the skein rather than from the inside. Too me, it doesn't really matter where you pull it from, it just depends on what's easier for you.
I’m pretty new at knitting and this was very helpful. I’ve been making a scarf and I see my ends and how uneven they are. I realized what I did wrong with your help, thank you!
I obviously crochet but I really want to learn knitting too. I tried puling out the middle of my yarn just like you, to be cool, I just pulled too much and made a tangled mess, I had to cut the yarn few times to detangle it haha
I'm just learning how to knit. Your instructions are very plain, clear and easy to follow. I have crocheted for many years and my biggest problem is that I crochet tight. I have started this project many times over and endeavoring to make myself stitch not so tight. I'm getting there. Now I am wondering, while going over the pattern. When I knit one do I loop over or do I loop under like you do, or does it make a difference? Thanks so much for all the patterns. I have made the slouchy beanie with puff stitch and it was very fun project. Thanks again!
just one question. Where do we find the knitting machine.but your an amazing teacher and you explained me a lot.And I made my first scarf for my mother. She loved it. Please share more videos like this.
Your a good instructor I crochet 🧶 but never got the knitting’s down With your video I may be on my way to learning ( knitting) Awkward holding needles at first definitely
If you don't have this particular brand or type of specialty yarn (but, say, medium-weight worsted, available usually in 5-to-16-oz. skeins), you can easily adjust this pattern by knitting it on smaller needles (e.g., size 8, 9 or 10); and knitting a 4 x 4-inch "sample swatch" (to get your knitting gauge) to create an 8"-wide piece. For me, that's approximately 38 stitches on a size eight pair of wooden needles. Sometimes the _exact_ width is not apparent until the project length is at least square with the two sides; but since it's a scarf, it doesn't have to be perfectly exact, anyway. :) Yes, it will take longer to finish (with more stitches and rows), but the stitch detail (rows and stitches) will be finer, plus the scarf will be more versatile for slightly warmer weather (since it's not as 'thick,' but more tightly-woven).
I learned to knit with you! Love it. I used balls of very chunky wool and so the scarf I made is not very flexible and quite rigid. Any ideas what to try next? I get confused by weight, ply and names of the different types of yarn/wool. Thanks.

A very thorough and nice tutorial, thank you. Should make for a nice gift :)

It's very interesting to see you using the thread from the left side as I've only seen it used from the right side. Is this an alternative method?
@@teslah2997 Yeah I'm talking about the yarn. Been watching too many embroidery videos. No need to throw a fit though ;)
it's a habit a lot of crocheter have! It's just a personal thing for everyone like being left or right handed

Thank you for this tutorial!
Great job my friend. TFS. Stay connected 😊
It's very simple & easy!
