    Sorry, just been through Ian in Lee County, Florida, and all the roofs I saw which were damaged were GAF Timberline. The wind lifted the shingles and the nail heads just pulled right through the shingle, or the shingles just tore. OC shingles did not fail.

  • @scottdowney4318

    The bond adhesive is Dura Grip. It really does stick down fast which is what you want. I used HDZ Pewter on my gambrel shed. Lower rafter angle is 73 degrees, upper is 25. They stuck fine and did not fall off, not using any extra roof adhesive. These shingles can also bend over the slope transition, if they get nice and warm in the sun. It was colder, so I used a heat gun to do that. But another way is use a round steel tube such as a garden swing in the full sun, lay shingle on top. When it gets hot mold it around the tube. This is of course nothing a pro would do, but as a DIY on a small shed, it works to form a shingle on the curve of the slope transition. Idea is preheat then nail it on and keep going rather than nail it on in place and wait for the sun to heat it up enough to bend it.

    Hey is it ok to use staples to install roofing? My buddy just had his roof done and I was on a ladder and while looking up the roof I could clearly see one side of the staple had not been driven all the way into the roof therefore it was holding the shingle up that was on top of it. I told him he needs to fix it before we get a really hot day and the shingles glue themselves down. Then he will have a hard time lifting them and fixing the staple. I have to assume just hammering down a crooked staple could possibly drive the side of the staple that is flush through the shingle? Thank you in advance for your reply. 🏡 🔨

    You damaged that whole bundle of new 'gaf' shingles by being to aggressive when you cracked them open! Id toss that bundle away...wouldnt want that on my house! My laborers get back of hand for doing that.... Why would you step in like that?. Id shingle straight up for that repair and offset 10" at the tie in....looks way cleaner. And you will notice those missing shingles underneath when the roof settles....i would have taken more time and filled in those 3tabs alot nicer.

      You can see the crack on the first shingle that you took out of the destroyed bundle. Ive put on enough shingles to tell you that stress you applied carried through entire bundle right at the laminated section of shingle.....if any of those land on your stagger it will leak before it should. Not good practice. Shingles are made to withstand all elements if installed correctly. If it is acceptable to install a cracked shingle......how come they are not designed and manufactured that way?

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction

      shouldn't be a dozen! as long as there's one layer of shingles and they're installed correctly with proper ventilation they should last easily 20 to 30 years. sometimes more in specific areas depending on weather. the warranties have some fine print of course. but that's easy to research. the 30 year shingles were mostly upgraded to this lifetime shingle. the better brands anyway

      Actually the "double part of the shingle" which is called the common bond is the same size for CT Landmark and Timberline HDZ. Landmark has allowed nailing above the common bond for years. Now GAF has mechanically fused the common bond on HDZ which allows the installer to nail above the common bond if they want. HDZ isn't thinner either BTW.

    How come no one uses those shingles for the ridge cap shingles ? No one has said why they don’t they seem to use 3 tab shingles for that.

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  3 года назад

      Ppl use to use 3 tab as cap but they've created an actual ridge cap now.

      @@NWIVeteranConstruction don’t understand. Lol. A cap and ridge cap are 2 different things ? I just heard people don’t used laminated because they delaminates after a time because they are now folded.

    I thought it was against city ordinance to patch in a two-layer roof. I thought It had to be a complete tear off???

    • @NWIVeteranConstruction
      @NWIVeteranConstruction  2 года назад

      Maybe in your city but I've never heard of that. Personally I wish ppl weren't aloud to do a lay over. But if it fails you can't expect everybody to have enough money to pay for a 2 layer replacement on the spot so idk how they could make that a rule. I guess it could aid in ppl not doing 2 layer roofs though

    I find it hard to believe that you pick this shingle to be the best. I just put those on today and I feel like they are shit compared to durations man. They are rocky as fuck and that supposed nail strip is stupid as fuck. It’s a big area but idk I don’t feel it’s that much of a upgrade from there original trashy shingle.

    It’s too bad a proper tear off and replace wasn’t in the budget in the first place, this probably wouldn’t have happened. Never had to do a 2 layer repair before for anything beyond a few blow offs

      Worlds Fastest Shingler if you have a new jar of peanut butter it’s 100 percent full when you finish eating all the peanut butter from that jar then it’s 0 percent. If you want to increase your peanut butter intake to 600 percent then eat 6 jars a day. 😂
