Great video, glad I didn't get rid of all those old used shingles, I understand putting down the roofing felt first then using the old shingles as filler to raise the level and shingling over the top with the new shingles excellent video thank you!
Sorry, just been through Ian in Lee County, Florida, and all the roofs I saw which were damaged were GAF Timberline. The wind lifted the shingles and the nail heads just pulled right through the shingle, or the shingles just tore. OC shingles did not fail.
The bond adhesive is Dura Grip. It really does stick down fast which is what you want. I used HDZ Pewter on my gambrel shed. Lower rafter angle is 73 degrees, upper is 25. They stuck fine and did not fall off, not using any extra roof adhesive. These shingles can also bend over the slope transition, if they get nice and warm in the sun. It was colder, so I used a heat gun to do that. But another way is use a round steel tube such as a garden swing in the full sun, lay shingle on top. When it gets hot mold it around the tube. This is of course nothing a pro would do, but as a DIY on a small shed, it works to form a shingle on the curve of the slope transition. Idea is preheat then nail it on and keep going rather than nail it on in place and wait for the sun to heat it up enough to bend it.
I'd say hit it anyway,I mean if you can't hit that area as a roofer you should stop.It can't hurt can only help.I understand that they say they can be nailed in that whole area but as a new product I wouldn't trust it yet.

Hey is it ok to use staples to install roofing? I told him he needs to fix it before we get a really hot day and the shingles glue themselves down. Then he will have a hard time lifting them and fixing the staple. I can damn near hit the factory with a rock
U willl never beable to match a shingle months later it comes from a different lot the color will never be the same it might be close but shingles fade in the sun so i dont it
are you located in northwest indiana? if so, would u be able to give me a estimate in DYER tomorrow morning 3-16-20?
yes sir look me up on facebook. veteran construction and give me a call..my morning is a bit tied up but after that I have an appointment in Merrillville and can swing by anytime that's convenient
How come no one uses those shingles for the ridge cap shingles ? No one has said why they don’t they seem to use 3 tab shingles for that.
Ppl use to use 3 tab as cap but they've created an actual ridge cap now.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction don’t understand. Lol. A cap and ridge cap are 2 different things ? I just heard people don’t used laminated because they delaminates after a time because they are now folded.
I thought it was against city ordinance to patch in a two-layer roof. I thought It had to be a complete tear off???
Maybe in your city but I've never heard of that. Personally I wish ppl weren't aloud to do a lay over. But if it fails you can't expect everybody to have enough money to pay for a 2 layer replacement on the spot so idk how they could make that a rule. I guess it could aid in ppl not doing 2 layer roofs though
Hey veteran. Only tbing is bugging on all your videos is you and your guys NEVER wear any harnesses and ropes or any safety device. Here in Canada safety is first. And we fast even with the equipment that is mandatory
Check my most recent
Wow . I'm in shock of how much a hack job u just did
at 3:17 who is going to put 4 dabs of tar on a mansard roof please tell me who
I do on every one. Watch my barn video from last year. One of the first videos I made. You have to do it. I show a good method for it so that it's fast
Why not just redo the whole roof ?? could of done the whole roof in same time but I do enjoy the videos
you tell me and we'll both know! I told them "it'll be a grand for the repair, but this whole side might only cost 3,000..." they said they'd rather do the repair...
Nice thing about doing a small repair is if it leaks its not your fault. People are cheap as heck.
I find it hard to believe that you pick this shingle to be the best. I just put those on today and I feel like they are shit compared to durations man. They are rocky as fuck and that supposed nail strip is stupid as fuck. It’s a big area but idk I don’t feel it’s that much of a upgrade from there original trashy shingle.
Please don't open your bundles like that
It’s too bad a proper tear off and replace wasn’t in the budget in the first place, this probably wouldn’t have happened. Never had to do a 2 layer repair before for anything beyond a few blow offs
yea I feel the same! that was only my second, but first time I've ever had to go down to the plywood and replace it.
I would definitely still nail through the double layer just to save your ass. I see what they did there but do you really trust it.
thought the same thing at first. after laying it though I understand it better and I dig it. plus i'm in an area that only requires 4 nails and we always 5 nail anyway so there's an extra in it

Why are you doing the 3 tab like that ? Shouldn't you not put thos peices of garbage in the garbage
Love your videos man !!! Youv made me a better roofer
Why didnt you just tear the firstlayer off
Malarley gas the best shingles. Def not GAF
Those shingles are junk bro.
disagree. care to say why
What a hack job lol
Yea who do you work for lmao
Not comparing apples to oranges , but gaf made the WORST vinyl flooring products on the market !!! VERY POOR QUALITY CONTROL (if any) . I found a fly imbeded in one piece of vinyl .
that's hilarious lol but no shingles are much different. I didn't know they made flooring...
There is no such thing as 600 percent! You can only have 100 percent of anything.
lol not true... if I have 1 scoop of peanut butter a day...and decide I want 7 scoops from now on. I increased my peanut butter intake by 600%
Worlds Fastest Shingler if you have a new jar of peanut butter it’s 100 percent full when you finish eating all the peanut butter from that jar then it’s 0 percent. If you want to increase your peanut butter intake to 600 percent then eat 6 jars a day. 😂
@@NWIVeteranConstruction absolutely correct!
