Man, such an amazing low kick KO by Rodtang Gabriel, he was so technical, and smart with setting up a combo, and distracting his opponent, finishing the combo, with a low kick, thank you so much, for these awesome fight breakdowns! 🎉
Hey gabriel, love all your videos can’t believe we get to have your knowledge for free! Wanted to let you know that we can hear your mic slowly turning up everytime you pause talking for a couple seconds, my guess is it’s some kind of built in noise suppression - to fix it, add in a noise gate and set the threshold low enough to only pickup when you’re talking but high enough that it doesn’t let the room noise bleed into the mic when you’re not talking
What's your antidote to being beaten with low kicks besides just checking kicks, as in what would be the general combat strategy to fighting somebody who is going to attempt to deconstruct you with low kicks like this from the beginning of the fight? Surely his opponent should have started closing distance sooner and forcing a more chaotic hand heavy fight with more exchanges rather than staying at range when he started realising his legs were taking too much damage from kicking range. What's your opinion?
I'm by no means even close to Gabriel's level but my style is pretty leg kick/boxing oriented, so you can take my advice for what it's worth. My main concern as a leg kicker is a guy being able to snipe me and keep me at range with long range teeps, jabs, etc. So distance management and keying in on timing when he throws his leg kicks is huge. Often, proficient leg kickers combine their low kicks with a nasty close range boxing game (Rodtang here being a prime example), so trying to force exchanges is often playing with fire. If you watch here with Rodtang, he basically cornered his opponent with his teeps before he started ripping his low kicks
@@harismukic3219 Wouldn't it be a smarter option to force the hand heavy fight rather than stay at range and get chopped down? I understand that Rodtang has dangerous hands though I definitely agree that he was being extremely aggressive with the hands at close range hahaha thank you for your input buddy it makes for an interesting discussion!
Checking is great and effective but can also hurt both guys. A perfect example of how to deal with a heavy and regular leg kicker is oliveira vs gaethje. As Gaethje would throw the kick Olives would lift the lead leg up and bounce forward trying to land 1 2s which as the fight progressed deterred Justin from throwing more leg kicks.
@@TheChandy98 That's a brilliant example, I was actually watching this fight and explaining this exact counter to low kicks with my brother the other day! 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for giving your input it makes for a great discussion for everybody
@@JesusIsGodInTheFlesh3 No problem dude! I love leg kicks so this is the kind of thing I can nerd out all day on and coincidentally, I was just teaching low kick defense in Muay Thai today lol. Regarding forcing the in-fight if it's your only option, it's 100% a timing game in my experience. As the leg kicker, I'm looking to time that forward movement; as soon as the lead foot plants, I'm letting the kick go and getting off angle from the counter. On the other side, I can't afford to recklessly charge in because elite low kickers are just too good at timing that forward step and chopping. Take the center, gradually try to force them back, and bait their kicks out. If you can get the timing down, then you can counter with whatever you like. This turned into a whole essay but oh well 😂
At around the 2 minute mark, his leg really starts to feel it. After that, rodtang just becomes even more relentless. Why didn't he switch his stance and just teep until the end of the round and into the second? Very one dimensional, but he needs to establish range just to avoid the low kicks. He was stiff legged and probably will be for a week. My leg even twitched just watching that. Also, I see why rodtang is always injured now. Human wrecking ball approach and a shield at the same time. It makes me wonder how long his body will hold up. I know he has motivation though since now not only is he a champ, but has improved his lifestyle dramatically. Good on him for the win though, always a great fight with rodtang.
You shouldn't be thinking about pain. If you feel any just accept it and continue. Acceptance is probably the best way. Have a tough talk with yourself, tell yourself not to be such a b!tch. Think of war, you must continue to fight when you have been shot, had your hand blown off etc.

Gabriel...how do you psychologically manage the pain during such a fight? Thanks. GREAT channel man!
Adrenaline is a real thing but beyond that visualizing your end goal helps I guess?
I don't think that you can manage the pain of those leg kicks, your leg just stops working
