I always felt the 2016 record felt.. dirty, there should be stipulations like I could throw it into a hurricane or a tornado and have the world record throw. The wind limit should be capped at 10-15mph. But that's just my take on it, my best throw was 445ft not 1200ft. 🤷🏼♂️
They agree on the place and day like a year ahead of time. They had no clue how the weather was gonna be. Luck was on his side that day
445' is a GREAT throw!
The wind plays a huge roll! My farthest throw was 488ft with a Z line Nuke in a 20mph tail wind.
@@andrewrakes6353 NICE!
@@mackyd955 it doesn't matter. You can have a competition and see who throws the furthest on that day but, you should mark that wind condition was too high and because of that it is not official world record.
I know it's legal, but 42mph wind is ludicrous. I consider Christian Sandström, Simon Lizotte, and David Wiggins Jr roughly equal.
We would need the indoor test to see the TRUE champ...
Simon still routinely crushes massive distance, just for shits n giggles. His elbow is no longer what it used to be, but given the same 42mph tail wind I think he could still out throw Wiggins.
@@thndrlngs Simon was there that day. He had extended his 2014 record prior to Wiggins breaking it by another 40-50m.
It really just comes down to release velocity. That’s the most important metric when you can’t control for disc choice, altitude, and prevailing wind. Wiggins can produce 85 MPH with a regulation-weight disc, which is faster than Simon has ever thrown. Yes, Simon there 89 MPH, but he did that with a super lightweight disc.
As far as I’m concerned, Eagle is the absolute king of backhand speed. I personally recorded him throwing an 86 MPH roller with a 175G disc at the Beaver State Fling in 2019.
Why should that record stand, wind aided with a 45mph tailwind? That’s not a record, it’s circumstance, track and field wouldn’t allow it. Eagle should just go to the top of Mount Elbert in Colorado and throw a few 5000 footers if that’s the case. Flat ground, no wind, let’s see the true distance… 🎅🏻🏴☠️🏔🥏
We can also go into space to throw. 😁
Okay. How do we get take to do this?!? This is the content I'd like to see
I agree thr wind is such bs.
I agree
100. Garbage record.
Some inaccuracies in this video in regards to the early, pre-beveled disc records: First, Victor Malafronte's record set at the 1974 Octad was broken about 5 minutes later by me with a C.P.I. Allstar he lent me (Thanks, Victor!). Second, the 290 foot record attributed to me was the indoor record set during the 1975 WFC at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A number of competitors including me hit the low ceiling which prevented greater distances from being achieved. Third, I held the distance record from the 1974 Octad until the fall of of 1978. During that span, I broke my own record becoming the first to throw over 400 feet tossing a 119 World Class Frisbee, 412 feet. In the fall of 1978, John Kirkland bested that with a throw of ~444 feet.
Thank you!! 🔥
Read your whole excerpt again and count how many times you write the words "me" and "I".
@@slimdaawg So what's your point since this is a first person account-- would you prefer I refer to myself instead in the royal third person??
@@davis8851 Haha you should totally do that! Jokes aside, the guy is just very envious that you've achieved something as great as this and that he will probably never be able to match.
@@slimdaawghe's old let him reminisce
some rules would make a lot of sense here. Flatness is no more than 2% grade ..wind from any direction no more than 6 kilometers per hour. having to hit a fairway would be good also. even 100 meters wide. ..seems like tossing a disc into a tornado is next logical step with these current rules.
😂😂 LMAO yeah you're right!
@@discgolfcontent good video. I subscribed also.
Next tornado I'm going for it. Could get a few miles!!!
@@carnyshill684 Thank you!
ball golf does this yearly head yo head
Distance records should be two categories. Wind assistance and no wind assistance. And there is a specific wind speed that would separate the two categories.
Like in Track n Field. 2m/s max
Throwing in 42 mph wind and breaking the record is like Michael Scott running by the speed machine while a car is passing. Dont get me wrong, super impressive, but should have an asterisk next to it.
🤣🤣 You right...
EAT THAT CARL LEWISSSS!!!!
Wiggins threw it straight up in the air so you know with angular velocity at over 50 degrees that the wind played a huge part in it.
True...
That's not what angular velocity means. (that just means spin rate)
@@suserman7775 gotcha well either way it was all about the wind
@Sean Binder yeah now that I think about it, if wind is going to help do a lot of the work, then I'm guessing a huge amount of spin is essential.
I want to unlock that extra spin when I throw.
That’s incredible to see the difference, but how far would Stokley have thrown with 40 mph winds? My guess is he would have been close to Wiggins. They need to have a grid like ball golf distance competition and have a max wind for a record. I would guess that 900 would be impossible to break
I agree. 👍
Indoor world record would be cool as heck. Need some giant hangar.
@@discgolfdetails9889 its going to have to be BIG!
@@discgolfdetails9889 I think height would be the issue before length.
If Stokely had a lightweight boss plus the wind he would have been able to get close to it. Wiggins has a lot of strength so I don’t know how that plays into it, clearly Lizotte is built more similarly to Stokely and he couldn’t hit 1,100 like Wiggins did.
Even long jump and sprint records have a max tailwind limit of 4m/s. Absolutely silly that disc records can be established with a huge tailwind. They should start over with a 5m/s max to have an even playing field.
I agree!
Great video! A quick note; the PDGA was established in 1976 so it couldn't establish world records in 1970. It's actually WFDF (World Flying Disc Federation) that recognizes all world records in all flying disc disciplines.
I'd like to see it separated into longest FLIGHT (any conditions) and longest THROW (wind has to be under a certain speed like in Olympic events)
Stokley's throws were absolute BOMBs with those discs in those conditions. Sandstrom's seemed to be a "perfect" throw, could not fly any better or go any farther than that 250m. mad respect to everyone on this list
I like your work, you just gained a subscriber

What a fantastic video.... Yall did insane
This was great hope to see more videos.
Thank you! There will definitely be more!
One of my proudest long drives was about 310' but it was into quite a stiff headwind (I'd estimate just shy of 20mph).
This is a video I've been looking for for years! Seriously
Glad I could help!
One time at Catalina Island, I threw a DX destroyer off the top of a mountain. It flew 3 miles, come on guiness book where you at?!
42mph winds. Should never be a record
Agreed, completely stupid.
Yeah I feel that
Great vid, looking forward to more disc golf content

That’s insane this is my first time learning about the world records and call me crazy but that world record should not stand. I believe in giving credit where credit is due but that should be a no brainer to anyone who is involved.
never knew that had a 45mph tailwind. great video!
I started in 1981 playing Disc Golf. In 1983 we got the Aero, the pros were throwing that disc close to 300'. Courses were shorter then. Before you discount Wiggins throw because of the wind, Primm
NV is always there & so is the wind. Go take a disc and see what you can do. Wiggins was winning distance competitions since the age of 10, there is a lot more to throwing distance than just the wind
Yes sir, I completely agree... even with the perfect conditions no one else could throw that far. let's just say the wind helped a little for the 1,108' 🙂
Wiggins literally threw it straight up or close to. Like what? lol. I think 40mph wind is generously low, maybe at ground level. But lets be real dude. He didn't throw 1100 feet because he's been winning distance comps since age 10 and he's just a god amongst men. He fucking spike anny'd a disc nearly straight up as hard as he could to let the wind just send it.
@@wildcat31772 He didn't throw it "straight up into the air" You have no idea the complicated "calculation' one has to make given any particular condition. Disc weight, disc stability, angle into the wind, angle of elevation, altitude, etc. Get any of that wrong, and the disc flies WORSE than normal. FWIW the disc used was a lightweight R-pro Boss, a disc almost no one uses under normal conditions and no one else used that day.
I love the graphs!
Subscriber 837. Great video
The chart at the end is the best part of this video I clipped it and sent it too all my buddies that complain about they can't throw far. Well same with 90 of players in that 350' or less range.
One of my best drivers is the pro boss, and until now I've read its little 1108ft claim on it and been confused. This video clarifies that. It should read 1108(45mph wind). If they got a bunch of pros out there in all different tail winds and calculated the graph of distance and wind, they could probably work put a calculation to modify the distance recorded depending on the wind. Ahh, probably not.. cause then there are gusts and thermals, yep too complicated.
They will eventually come up with something to keep these records safe and fair i hope.....
hopefully one day we can have a standard set and use a giant hangar to host the distance competition. Having the wind do most of the work is super lame, I want to know how far a PERSON can make the disc go.
dude.... sick video ... where did you come from? nice editing. this is a big channel video. nice work .
💯 I appreciate the words! New video will be posted today, like and share it! 🤝

Fun record to hold and all, but as the old saying goes.....Drive for show, putt for dough......correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Stokley is the only name on that list that's even had a sniff at a world championship. I'm much more impressed with golfers like Climo, Mcbeth, Korver, Pierce....the ones that win World Championships. But, that's JMO.
Absolutely! If you're a true fan of the sport you will always lean towards the better "all around" golfer.
Cool video! You are missing Ken Jarvis World Record at 810' with a DX Teebird that happened about 10 minutes before Sandstrom threw 820' with DX Valkyrie.
Thank you stranger! It was actually 45 minutes. I'll take every minute. I actually had a video of it as well. But SOMEOOOONE recorded ER over the tape 😅. There's a few names blurred out to keep the video digestible for our fast pace lives I'm sure 😂

There should probably be different classifications of distance records. Elaine King hit basket on an 850ft downhill shot. I always thought that was really impressive.
Thats nuthin, threw a deep dish pizza off the sears tower in the windy city, blizzard of '78... it froze so hard it is still skippin around the great lakes to this day!
Nr 16. Niclas Bergehamn did that in the world championship with a Innova Viper. Thats impressive.
Need to put a wind aided disclaimer on the newer records.....
Sounded like Leonard from the Big Bang Theory narrating ;)
😂😂😂😂😂🤮🤣
Ill have to look him up...🤨
What would you even call Victor Malafrontes throw? is such a weird special technique, would love to see one of the pros try to recreate it and beat his record with the mordern discs or something. would be so fun to see lol, that "swing" is pretty... special
LOL yeah i love seeing how the guys used to do it back in the day! Victor was DOPE!
The wind is bullish!
🤣🤣💨💨
Great content, but def don't understand why they would allow a tail wind like that in a competition...or at least I wouldn't compare the early competition s to the later ones
yeah, unfortunately for the older guys they are counting these new crazy wind shots...
Not sure why they don't throw both directions and take the average, the way land speed records are done.
Wiggins is a beast though, his dad entered him in our tuesday night club tourneys when he was very young. He'd be at the course pretty much daily practicing. I believe he still holds some age specific distance records.
I wish they would do something.... That's awesome, explains why he is so good!
No rules? See you all at the Grand Canyon. This disc is about to go 10,000 feet
if u do
please only use biodegradable discs
So crazy with the wind! Maybe there's a massive airplane hanger somewhere in the world and we can start again with no-wind records.
yes!! Its going to have to be HUGE though!
@@discgolfcontent The Aerium in Berlin "In 1996, the Cargolifter company decided to build an arch on top. Nail gigantic closed dome, 360 meters long, 220 meters wide and 106 meters high." But it is now home to a theme park, so a few obstacles to miss too :)
@@williamhornaday2369 I don't think so because the distance throwers, without wind, I am guessing could throw over 220m, and in the future longer, so not any indoor sports stadium.
In track there is a wind speed that if exceeded records do not count. It should be that way for disc golf too...
yeah there should be wind limits for distance records. Otherwise, its the wind that's doing all the work. Not saying it doesn't still take some skill to throw accurately in the wind, but I feel it becomes more about luck and the wind hitting your disc just right to get the record amongst the distance competitors.
just stellar camera work on that last one. who cares about the disc lets just watch the guy who threw it.
Nice
I love the you betcha guy nice
I'm bout to set a new record from the top of Mt Washington next time the winds get up to around 200 mph.
Wind limits and weight limits h
Need to be installed in disc golf distance records
Agree...
How about the records on a level field with no wind? Maybe even at sea level?
Would like it if they quit allowing the comps at the salt flats cause it really skews the numbers. Wiggins is probably an 800ft thrower at best without a nearly 50 mph tailwind, which is still insane.
im hoping they come up with a solution for the wind...
I feel like there should be a wind limit for competitions like there is in pretty much every other sport. Or at least two separate official records.
i agree!
I don’t even play disc golf but I think there should be a limit to how much wind you can use to assist. Fuck with 45 mph wind and a little luck anyone could take the record
Wait. Did you say “45 mile power tailwind”at 4:25? I guess I’ve always thought MPH meant something different
hope to see some more swedes in the future
well made
Thank you!
hey ive tried throwing with a solid 20-30 mph tailwind, and while yes it adds a HUGE amount of distance(my furthest throw is 509 ft because of that) The discs are nearly COMPLETELY unreadable in the wind, whatever you think you're doing right you're doing wrong, and your discs fly completely differently, I was throwing my innova corvette(the only disc I've gotten over 500)which is relatively flippy in no wind and was turned into a beefcake that day. My furthest throw with a
Can’t wait till someone does this on a Par 5 for the 2
#easy
I think there should be a distinction made between guy’s throwing for distance in “realistic” conditions and guys going to a special location and in specific conditions that are highly favorable to the distance a golf disc will travel. There should be the distance world record and the realistic distance record.
not all of us can have a 45mph tailwind and definitely none of us can be david wiggins jr lol
subbed
Thank you!
Victor Malafronte is so cool.
True
Waiting for the next hurricane or tornado to set my record
LMAO....
Is there any world record for normal wind conditions? Kind of like in track and field where there is a limit on the amount of wind allowed in long jump and 100m?
Otherwise it's just a matter of finding the most amount of wind..
A tail wind throw shouldn't be a world record. I suggest that if there is a wind then the 3 discs be thrown upwind and 3 discs downwind and the best of each direction be averaged. Otherwise, I could wait for hurricane force wind and just throw it up into the air with a gps attached. Here comes the new record - 50 miles.
The record in the tornado needs to be thrown out I’d be embarrassed to be the guy claiming distance champ with that much wind
The wind is crazy yes, but there are no rules yet... which is unfortunate, I agree. But with that being said david still throws absolute bombs and would be at the top regardless
What are the rules for conditions/wind, if any? At 4:00 it's clear they have a very strong tailwind
Unfortunately there isn't any... That's why the record is with 42 MPH winds. hopefully soon they can come up with something to regulate the record!
@@discgolfcontent I see... thank you for getting back to me
No hate but there should be records with no wind and records with tail wind because at 4:00 that tail wind is nuts
i agree, but for now they are counting it...
@@discgolfcontent for sure next hurricane I'm going to the beach and going for the record myself. Will post if it's worth it lol

I think that wind is ridiculous. There should be a max allowable wind. Next thing you know, they are going to be chasing tornados for the next attempt.
should have also pointed out when they changed from going for the record at a normal field and went to a 50 mph wind sand flat to juice the numbers up.
And altitude as well.
I rode my bicycle 50 mph on flat ground!!! yeah! Wooooo am I fast!
...in a storm...with 35 mph tailwind. I then rode back home at 6 mph. My story ends after the 50 mph. That's fair, right?
That's it. I'm going to the top of the Sears Tower and break the record!!
Track & Field 100m records don't count if there's a tailwind of more than 2 m/s. That's not a lot of wind. There really should be a wind legal record recorded separately because these salt fields with massive tail winds don't really show off talent as much as how perfectly a gust of wind can grab the underside of a disc and carry it forever.
i agree...
I still got my Christian disc with that 820 on it.
Love to hear it!
It needs to be adjusted to have wind speed as a factor. A record with lower wind speeds and a record with higher wind speeds
Want to challenge this record. Wait for a hurricane and get Guinness out to a field with me.
You would throw 1,107'
This is why wind-effected records are not valid in any competitive sporting body. If it's more than 2 meters per second (looked it up) it's DQ'd. I say this from knowing football kicking distances, track and field records, etc. The '16 record with that much wind should have an asterisk.
Yes i agree... BUT its the record...
Who the hell do I need to talk to to get that absolute DRIP polo at 3:02
🤣🤣🤣
Was literally going to comment: wind
What stopped you? 🤣
I'm designing a new disc called the Cat5 that takes air from the tail instead of the nose. I'll travel to the next landmass that's about to be hit with a Cat 5 hurricane and show my "skill".
I beat David Wiggins at a worlds distance comp back in the day
Are you serious?!
How'd i miss that? 😮💨
There is not a single doubt that Simon Lizotte the german wunderkind would beat them all in perfect conditions
Maybe... 🤷♂️
The wind makes it silly and not serious at all, on the edge of pathetic
I agree
Cool vid. But the distance record has become a bit of a joke when deliberately attempted in crazy wind speeds. My Max distance is probably 300ft but I'm sure I can beat this is I head to Kansas during tornado season. This record should change with some rules dictating max wind speed, no wind, average distance between 2 shots in opposite directions or something to eliminate just chasing 40+mph winds and throwing it up high
You're right brother, I hope they do somthing to make it fair...
They should just build a 1000 ft long wind tunnel at this point, some of the set ups were ridiculous.
Wait until an astronaut or a rocket launches a disc in space
🤣
The wind was straight up stupid in 2016 when Wiggins claimed the record. Imo these records should be thrown in less than x amount of wind. I'm not saying Simon Lizottes should've counted either, it was windy then as well, but the 2016 video shows just a chuck into a d*mn tornado. Some ground rules should be set for the wind conditions in these contests imo
I agree!!!
After watching this the 1108' yeet is a record w/a Barry Bonds-esk (*) next to it; what w/ the 42mph tailwind & all. Distance comps should be thrown on Zero MPH Tailwind Days as thee benchmark & all others catagorized accordingly. I bet you could get a disc to go 110.8'+ just having it accidentally blowing off you fingers trying to Turbo Putt in a juiced up tailwind like that!
