    Thanks hawk, I agree Oda is probably the best Japan forming candidate. Also, I never saw Ashikaga expand, that's actually news to me
    One thing I do think helps in the Japan conquest is do NOT state lands. I'm not sure about most people, but for me admin points are at a premium in my Japan campaigns. What I recommend is get all the provinces in the state, then half state it and save your admin points until you are good on tech. Once tech is good, full state

    • @MuppetLord1

    One note about finishing Daimyo missions before forming Japan: one of the final missions can take until the 1700s to finish simply because it requires you to resolve all but one Shinto events, each of which has a 30 year cooldown between them.
    Edit because I wrote the first comment in between gaming: Japan actually has three unique government types, two unlocked by the mission The Balance of Power and one unlocked by a mission after turning Christian. The first one gives you permanent access to the ability to transfer subjects at half war score cost, while the second one gives you more max estate privileges, estate loyalty, tolerance of true faith, and no stability loss on monarch death. The third turns you into a monarchy version of a crusader state, giving permanent holy war and cleansing of heresy CBs, and a unique government interaction. Rare Redhawk research L.

    I just finished a Japan game last night. I even started as Oda and united Japan in roughly 27-30 years, but quit when my next ruler died.
    Let me explain, Oda’s starting ruler is great and all, but I ended up getting a 6/5/6 daughter as his heir, and when he bit the dust in battle she took over and ended up being the one that actually united Japan, annexed Korea, Ainu, and most of Manchuria. Died in her 70s as the Shoguness, and honestly I got so attached to her that it killed my desire to continue that campaign.
    It’s just not the same without her leading the Imperial Army and stack wiping 50k Ming troops that couldn’t retreat due to a fort.

    Taking 23 ducat loans to pay off 17 ducal loans is a really bad idea, unless bankruptcy is looming. You don't save a single penny on interest. Every bit of interest you would pay for the rest of the old loan instead you pay immediately as part of the early payment. Plus you get the new inflation.

    • @boop7441
      @boop7441 Месяц назад

      once bankruptcy is looming you cant take loans at all, so you have to know when to restructure your loans if youre going to do that, which in reality most good players dont.
      If you ever watch florryworry for sp, or absolutehabibi for mp, or zlewikk who does a little bit of both, yhe reality is no one gives a fuck about the extra like 20 ducats you pay to restructure your loans right now instead of when theyre expiring

    • @DvdAvins
      @DvdAvins Месяц назад +1

      @@boop7441 It's the inflation from renewing loans every 18 months that matters. Just keep an eye on when they're coming due and take anew loan in advance of that to pay off the old one. Folks underestimate inflation. Every loan is about 4 ADM in eventual inflation reduction cost, in addition to the extra expense inflation causes in the mean time.

    • @boop7441
      @boop7441 Месяц назад

      @@DvdAvins this is the kind of stuff that matters when you're growing by developing land in mp, not the kind of stuff that matters in sp. People in this game spend hours playing on speed 2 pausing every few days just to finish a wc before 1500/1550/1600 and almost none of us look at how long our loans are going to be before restructuring them. its really just not worth the effort.

    Humiliate Rival is really important do asap for the age goal, and whoever you do it to will probably get annexed by somebody else within a few months of you peacing out. Ditto for show strength, just pick somebody weak who doesn't border a daimyo with a lvl3 fort, and you'll have the money and the drugs. Fabricating claims is a good idea just to save some mana, you don't need to have super high relations with Ashikaga to avoid force suppuku, just above 100 (in my experience) and once you get big enough to get >50 liberty desire he can't, so relations don't matter.

    For those of you more experienced, as Oda, you do not really need any Military Ideas to succeed, the bonuses they get are good enough already, the AI is kinda shit. I would instead go for Diplomatic for the Province War Score Cost, which will be -30% when you invade Korea and China, then admin for the -25% CCR, then either Religious for the CB and conversion bonuses, or Espionage for the AE impact and the big Siege Bonuses, then take whichever you did not take as your fourth idea.

    Also worth noting that early wars for show strength are extremely strong if you can string enough together you can get tech 4 or even tech 5 before the others get tech 4
    also with the added points you can dev renaissance quicker
    idea groups have changed recently too
    quality are good
    then follow with admin or espionage
    whichever you dont pick is your 3rd group
    after that diplo so you can get the province war score cost decrease
    With oda ideas as japan you will not need money making things especially after you take chinese trade and korea because the dev is so strong and the trade is so valuable that money will most likely not be an issue.
    Oda ideas are based around blobbing so picking ideas that support that is extremely valuable.

    Japan immediately after unification is a mess of debt, inflation, lack of admin and high autonomy. It takes time to fix itself. There is however one thing that makes life easier with little to no effort. Bank of Ming.
    After taking Hokkaido you build a navy that can clap Ming plus a dozen trade ships. Put a merchant in Hangzhou node and direct every single trade ship you have there. It should give you enough trade power to fabricate trade conflict on Ming with 30 spy network. A special CB that gives warscore for blockades. If you only have the home islands and Hokkaido, Ming will be unable to challenge your army even if its on a 100 Mandate. Meanwhile you just relax and murder your rebels.
    Then the best part. Drain Ming of all cash, peace out and IMMEDIATELY declare on Ryukyu before the game has time to register Ming's newfound debt. Enjoy your pending second withdrawal from the Bank of Ming.

    Samurai actually aren't as good as they seem at first. Any time there's a bonus to discipline that only applies to specific units, whether they're special units, from a general trait, or mercenary discipline, it actually doesn't have any effect on military tactics. So the 5% discipline that samurai units get is just a +5% damage bonus, which isn't bad, but not amazing. And, while I can't remember the specifics, due to the way it's codes "-10% morale damage taken" does not actually reduce the amount of moral damage you take by 10%. And with those 2 modifiers, are they really worth the 50% higher reinforcement cost?

    • @boop7441
      @boop7441 Месяц назад

      -10% moralr damage taken only doesnt apply to the passive morale damage, which is fairly minimal. 5% discipline to special units should also impact military tactics, and I'm not sure why you don't think it does.

    3:15 this is actually really rng reliant. my start is instead to take admin and mil mana, sell titles to get my estates loyal, look for a stability cost advisor, get it, then stab up and take the mission for +1 stab, putting me at 2 stability. I expect to be forced seppuku at most once, so this is on average enough stability until i form japan. Then i reject royal marriages and do everything I can to expand quickly enough to become disloyal. Then ashikaga becomes unable to force seppuku.
    Thats why personally i like to play uesugi, because being able to so rapidly reach >50% LD is so valuable. If you're planning on playing a tall/colonial japan game, where you take the japan ideas, go for uesugi and spur the ashikaga shogunate

    Is it worth it to become a theocracy as Japan? (From my understanding. the fastest way to get the reform as Japan is through the ikko ikki, and the ikko ikki theocracy reform doesn't really care what religion you are even though it initially makes you Buddhist)

    • @stesnuash8986
      @stesnuash8986 Месяц назад

      Japan gets two possible unique 1st govt reforms during the Age of Absolutism, one of which gives +5 admin efficiency. And Shinto has a unique 4th tier reform that unlocks Divine Ideas regardless of the govt type.

    • @christianwhite8877
      @christianwhite8877 Месяц назад

      While both are true. Shinto isn't really that amazing. It's main selling point is free divine ideas (which aren't that powerful and can give a bad event) and extra morale (which the ikko ikki theocracy reform gives an equal amount to) in addition to its incidents. It is arguably better to become emperor of China and have Shinto be harmonized for the extra infantry combat ability and go defensive for the morale boost, though it could be better to just stay Buddhist (the ikko ikki theocracy reform has karma decay and the monuments in Japan can work with Buddhism) or convert to a branch of Christianity (Catholic is only good with a very specific reform as Japan. Reformed can replace the morale of being Shinto and has certain benefits. Protestant can help you conquer the world and help you colonize but has few requirements to get it going. Orthodox while the second most difficult for Japan to acquire it is still very good. Hussite however is not worth the time and effort as Japan because it doesn't help Japan much and is probably gone before you would even have it as an option, the main cost however is that any monuments for Christianity are in/around Europe which means you lose out on many of the monuments on your starting continent)

    • @stesnuash8986
      @stesnuash8986 Месяц назад

      @@christianwhite8877
      Yeah, I'm aware. And I agree, ultimately Confucian is a better option as an Eastern religion. Moreover, taking Divine ideas and switching out of the 4th reform/changing religion doesn't cancel the ideas. And of you care about Eastern monuments the ones that are available for Shinto are also available for Confucian.
