Band-Maid has a distinct *"Band-Maid Doing Band-Maid Things"* sound that is all their own and yet every Band-Maid song is a unique piece unto itself. The diversity of their output can be off-putting to those with narrow tastes, but deeply satisfying to those who are willing to expand their horizons. I'll admit to being an old Boomer Maidiac, I watched The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and I've experienced the long history of rock music. Band-Maid is as good as any act I've experienced in my lifetime and it is worth your time to take the deep dive into their huge catalog of music. The Japanese love Western rock music and the women of Band-Maid grew up listening to their parents' rock music as well as Japanese rock groups like X-Japan, One Ok Rock, and Maximum The Hormone. Bass player Misa recalls helping her mom with housework while listening to "Crosstown Traffic" by Hendrix. Band-Maid's sound does tend to recall the rock music of earlier decades, but does borrow from more contemporary sources. The band's lyricists and vocalists, Miku and Saiki, do blend rap into their performances. They experiment and try new things. And they have a surprising sense of humor. They produced an EP of Folk-Metal called "Band-Maiko" and released two beautiful MVs where they all performed in Geisha make-up and kimono. They presented it as an elaborate April Fool's Day prank. "Choose Me" is a 'Go-To' song for Band-Maid. They've performed it so many times that when asked to do a last minute TV appearance, they'll perform "Choose Me" because it won't require any rehearsal time. At their 10th Anniversary Tour Final, it was the song that their vocal choose to perform solo and that the band choose for the 'let's all go wandering around the arena and let the audience video us' song. Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. What’s so hard to understand about that? And that’s why with Band-Maid you fall into their pigeonhole, not a rabbithole. And the journey is glorious and wonderful! Band-Maid does’t have a genre. Band-Maid IS the genre! The band members are extremely talented and hard-working, but at the same time they are silly, playful, and fun! They refer to their costumes as their battle armor. You’ll never convince a MAIDiac that this is not the best hard rock band in the universe. And we can become a little obnoxious at times. But we can’t help ourselves! We love our Maids and their music! If you liked CHOOSE ME you’ll probably love the rest of their 140+ song catalog. And often your favorite Band-Maid song will be the last Band-Maid song you hear. Saw them live twice in 2023 on their US tour.. They played many of the big music festivals like Lallapaloosa in Chicago, Rockville in Florida and Point Fest in St. Louis. They are the band that introduced me to the amazing world of Japanese rock and metal.
The fans are actually referred to as Maidiacs. The other terms you mention stem from the maid café culture in Japan. Miku had been working at such a place when she won an idol contest. After a year under contract to be in a three girl idol band, she walked over to another production company with her idea of maids playing hard rock. The band was formed in 2013. Miku liked Kanami's guitar videos, so she recruited her first. Kanami had worked with Akane the drummer, and Akane knew Misa the bassist through music school. Miku stepped back as lead vocalist and asked the production company for a singer with a deeper and stronger sound (Saiki). Miku then had Kanami teach her guitar so the band's sound would be even better. Twelve years, same members, 140+ songs - a great track record. The guitarist Kanami is the composer, and Miku does most of the lyrics; however, in typical Japanese style, the whole group works on the end product. Live concerts are great, but don't miss out on some special things they do on music videos (perform as Geisha apprentices with traditional instruments added, acoustic performances, morphing in an out of their anime characters, and more).

Nicole, I’m sure you’ve heard of the band from your home country called RUSH. They were my all time favorite band of my 59 years on this planet and I’ve seen them live 13 times. Then one day, a friend told me to watch a video on RUclips called Band-Maid “Thrill” (OMV) and from that moment forward, I binge watched everything on their channel. Next came buying all their cd’s and many live concerts on DVD and after seeing them perform live in Detroit, Rush has been knocked off the throne with Band-Maid taking their place. Just pick ANY song by them whether it’s a video or just the studio audio track because it’s a win win for you and us Maidiacs. P.S. And a thing about the maid outfits, Nicole: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Saiki (Sigh-key) Atsumi is the lead singer and our queen; Miku Kobato (backing vocals & rhythm guitar) organized the group with Maid outfits in 2013 as their trademark. Yeah, just like that snippet said, Band-Maid likes to push against the boundaries of genre. In addition to hard rock, metal, punk, there are ballads, slow burn songs, acoustic, prog, etc. No matter what it is, the level of consistency of the songwriting will blow you away. You can literally click randomly and get a good song, but maybe Don't you tell ME (live) or Bestie (MV) to show some contrast.

Do yourself a favor when selecting a Band-Maid song look for the live version 90% of their songs are better live. Nothing wrong with the studio but they add so much to the live versions.

Band-Maid has a distinct *"Band-Maid Doing Band-Maid Things"* sound that is all their own and yet every Band-Maid song is a unique piece unto itself. The diversity of their output can be off-putting to those with narrow tastes, but deeply satisfying to those who are willing to expand their horizons.
I'll admit to being an old Boomer Maidiac, I watched The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and I've experienced the long history of rock music. Band-Maid is as good as any act I've experienced in my lifetime and it is worth your time to take the deep dive into their huge catalog of music.
The Japanese love Western rock music and the women of Band-Maid grew up listening to their parents' rock music as well as Japanese rock groups like X-Japan, One Ok Rock, and Maximum The Hormone. Bass player Misa recalls helping her mom with housework while listening to "Crosstown Traffic" by Hendrix. Band-Maid's sound does tend to recall the rock music of earlier decades, but does borrow from more contemporary sources. The band's lyricists and vocalists, Miku and Saiki, do blend rap into their performances. They experiment and try new things. And they have a surprising sense of humor. They produced an EP of Folk-Metal called "Band-Maiko" and released two beautiful MVs where they all performed in Geisha make-up and kimono. They presented it as an elaborate April Fool's Day prank.
"Choose Me" is a 'Go-To' song for Band-Maid. They've performed it so many times that when asked to do a last minute TV appearance, they'll perform "Choose Me" because it won't require any rehearsal time. At their 10th Anniversary Tour Final, it was the song that their vocal choose to perform solo and that the band choose for the 'let's all go wandering around the arena and let the audience video us' song.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed!
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. What’s so hard to understand about that? And that’s why with Band-Maid you fall into their pigeonhole, not a rabbithole. And the journey is glorious and wonderful!
Band-Maid does’t have a genre. Band-Maid IS the genre! The band members are extremely talented and hard-working, but at the same time they are silly, playful, and fun! They refer to their costumes as their battle armor.
You’ll never convince a MAIDiac that this is not the best hard rock band in the universe. And we can become a little obnoxious at times. But we can’t help ourselves! We love our Maids and their music!
If you liked CHOOSE ME you’ll probably love the rest of their 140+ song catalog. And often your favorite Band-Maid song will be the last Band-Maid song you hear. Generally their best music videos are their LIVE music videos, with some notable exceptions. Here are some suggested follow up songs to check out:

Saw them live twice in 2023 on their US tour.. They played many of the big music festivals like Lallapaloosa in Chicago, Rockville in Florida and Point Fest in St. Louis. They are the band that introduced me to the amazing world of Japanese rock and metal.

The fans are actually referred to as Maidiacs. The other terms you mention stem from the maid café culture in Japan. Miku had been working at such a place when she won an idol contest. After a year under contract to be in a three girl idol band, she walked over to another production company with her idea of maids playing hard rock. The band was formed in 2013. Miku liked Kanami's guitar videos, so she recruited her first. Kanami had worked with Akane the drummer, and Akane knew Misa the bassist through music school. Miku stepped back as lead vocalist and asked the production company for a singer with a deeper and stronger sound (Saiki). Miku then had Kanami teach her guitar so the band's sound would be even better. Twelve years, same members, 140+ songs - a great track record. The guitarist Kanami is the composer, and Miku does most of the lyrics; however, in typical Japanese style, the whole group works on the end product. Live concerts are great, but don't miss out on some special things they do on music videos (perform as Geisha apprentices with traditional instruments added, acoustic performances, morphing in an out of their anime characters, and more).
Actually we refer to ourselves as Maidiacs however all the Maids refer to us as Masters and Princesses.

Nicole, I’m sure you’ve heard of the band from your home country called RUSH. They were my all time favorite band of my 59 years on this planet and I’ve seen them live 13 times. Then one day, a friend told me to watch a video on RUclips called Band-Maid “Thrill” (OMV) and from that moment forward, I binge watched everything on their channel. Next came buying all their cd’s and many live concerts on DVD and after seeing them perform live in Detroit, Rush has been knocked off the throne with Band-Maid taking their place. Just pick ANY song by them whether it’s a video or just the studio audio track because it’s a win win for you and us Maidiacs. P.S. The lead guitarist Kanami is the 1st Japanese artist to get a signature PRS guitar. The 1st person was Carlos Santana. Only about 9 have gotten them. She's that good.

And a thing about the maid outfits, Nicole: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

Welcome Nicole to the nirvana that is BAND-MAID. This band has captured the hearts of BAND-MAID fans like me. MAIDIACS are totally devoted to these five fabulous females and we want the whole world to discover this insanely talented group that refers to themselves as an incredibly hard rocking maid band. Saiki (Sigh-key) Atsumi is the lead singer and our queen; Miku Kobato (backing vocals & rhythm guitar) organized the group with Maid outfits in 2013 as their trademark. She worked in Maid Cafes and would serve her "masters & princesses". Their concerts are called 'servings' and we MAIDIACS are their masters and princesses. Her last name (Kobato) means 'small pigeon' so Miku makes a noise like a pigeon 'kuruppo' but shortens it to "Po". Kanami Tono is the lead guitarist and composes the majority of the music with the assistance of Misa (Me-suh), the killer bassist we call the 'Barefoot Assasin', and Akane (Ah-kah-nay) Hirose, the "gorilla" on the drum kit. These 5 ladies are the best musicians on the planet and their songs are incredibly great. They have a great time playing together so we have a great time with them. Akane often has a smile that would make the devil blush.
Tom Clark-Futoura [along with so many others] is our sensei (teacher) and historian of all things BAND-MAID and his commentaries are priceless (I copied them for my own edification). Also, look for EXCELLENT documentaries by a wonderful fan from France named "Ohrenje" (lit. 'orange') narrated by Kasper Michaels. They have BBC quality programs you absolutely must see.
I have been a MAIDIAC since Dec.2024 and 'Thrill' (MV) was the tipping point for me. They are the band I have waited for all of my life. Their music is captivating and often starts off like a drag racer. Every member shines in this band and multiple solos are commonplace. Killer riffs on bass, guitar and drums complement the best vocal duo on the planet. I love their MVs and Offical Live Videos. Try MVs Dice, Secret My Lips/Secret Maiko Lips (so good!) Hate? (OLV) will melt your brain, Onset (OLV), From Now On (MV), Freedom (OLV), Play, Alone (MV), Blooming (MV) are all excellent songs to begin with.

Yeah, just like that snippet said, Band-Maid likes to push against the boundaries of genre. In addition to hard rock, metal, punk, there are ballads, slow burn songs, acoustic, prog, etc. No matter what it is, the level of consistency of the songwriting will blow you away. You can literally click randomly and get a good song, but maybe Don't you tell ME (live) or Bestie (MV) to show some contrast.
