One of the many things I love about Pat is when he plays solo guitar, he sounds totally original. He plays solo like no one else. Superb.
Saw this tremendously gifted performer live in 86 in Oregon in an outdoor setting with couple thousand people among trees on blankets. I have to say 36 years later, I don't know how anyone could surpass that performance. Everyone I encountered was just shaking their heads incredulous of what we heard. That's a fact. This here is a true genius.😊

I’ve been listening to Pat’s music since 1979. I think of Pat as a composer whose instrument of choice is the guitar. To me, Pat is the greatest composer/guitar player of all time.
Saw Pat in Boston last month (September 2023), solo. He talked! A lot! Said he was doing so because the city has so many memories and means so much to him. One surprising and one shocking story: he said he sees himself as a composer and maker of music first, guitarist second. Then! He said that he composes everything on a piano and then transposes it onto guitar!! New level of genius I never knew and can barely fathom. Have been following him since the seventies, and can’t imagine my life without his music.

Paul, me too. My life would be less beautiful without his music in it. I have felt for decades that I am grateful to be alive at this time to hear his music live. 200 years from now, people will be playing and listening to his music like people listen to Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc. today.
I saw him here in Albuquerque on 10/14/23. I loved the stories he told. I feel like we got to know the man and the stories behind the music.

I think Pat Metheny is 10 people. There have been many great artists with a 1/10 of his talent. It is just crazy that he is so good at so many areas of music. Pat Metheny brings new meaning to the saying "He got the whole package"

Pat is the greatest musician on the earth and who ever is second is 100 times worse than Pat. He has no peer. Like Lyle said, "Pat is a brilliant musician who happens to play guitar. I hope Pat knows the lightning bolt God put in his fingers. He has been blessed. We all know musicians who work as hard as Pat with 1 10th the results.
He is wonderful but let’s not get ahead of skis. Many other masters so let’s just put in that illustrious club. Peace
