Brian De Palma is one of my favorites. What an amazing run he had with Dressed to kill, Blow out, Scarface and Body Double in just a few years. Love all the films on your list as well. Amazing stuff. Thank you for a great YT channel 👍😀
I’ve GOT to explore more DePalma. I didn’t even realize he did MI1! That Carlito’s Way set from Arrow does look temping but I’m going to need to rewatch Scarface. Like only saw it once - was never a big gangster mob guy growing up. Now - “Blow Out” that 4k from Criterion is a really good “government conspiracy” film. Truly great film and nice surprise to see at your personal #1 spot! Another great“list vid” my man! Well done!
Thanks man! Yeah De Palma rocks. He's so stylish and compelling. Yep, always love a good government conspiracy film... Blow Out is incredible. And I'm super psyched for that chunky Arrow box of Carlito's Way (which I'll admit i double dipped for mainly for the cool packaging, since I know it's the same transfer as the U.S. 4K). Thanks for watching brother.
Im 53 and theres loads of films iv never got round to see also , ie body double , i do own it though, , iv just ordered the new carlito ways arrow boxset 👌
Yeah I'm totally excited for the new Carlito's Way box, Stuart. Great to see Arrow giving it the royal treatment. It's a double dip on the same format for me (which I usually try to avoid wherever possible), but I felt like it was worth it for De Palma and this particular title. I'm just really digging his films.
Lol Thanks Ken! Ah yes, Blow Out is so awesome! You've never seen that one yet? I think you'll really enjoy it, especially if you've been digging his other films. It's the kind of film that sticks with you for a while after you watch it (at least it was for me).
Thanks for this video. What a walk down memory lane. Thanks for mentioning Casualties of War. I enjoy war movies and this was a powerful movie for its time. Also loved Carrie. Could have been number one for me. Also very happy you mentioned Al Pacino's Scent of a Woman. His performance in that was unforgettable and legendary.
9:59 Subscribed! I wish the films being made today didn't conform to those standards either, they really shouldn't. De Palma's style of filmmaking was absolutely badass, that man didn't give a flying f#ck lol. It's one of the biggest reasons why I'm such a huge fan of his
Awesome! Thank you so much! Yeah De Palma rules for sure. It's kind of a cliche to say, but they really don't make movies like they used to. I just love how outside-the-box De Palma's approach is.
@@TheOriginalFuzz Yeah man, right on. I know he fell off in the later stage of his career (not everybody's like Scorsese) but he's still a legend. I just hope he makes a huge comeback.
I enjoyed your video. I've always considered Brian De Palma as a most creative and thought-provoking director. Here are my favorites: 1. Blow Out 2. Carlito's Way 3. The Untouchables 4. Body Double 5. Dressed To Kill 6. Sisters * I've never seen Carrie but plan to. I very much liked Mission: Impossible (1996) but it has been a very long time since I have seen it. I greatly admire Pacino but for some reason I never cared for Scarface. DePalma's Obsession has grown on me over time and I no longer consider it just a lesser version of Vertigo, one of my favorite Hitchcock films.
Very cool list! Yeah, you should definitely check out Carrie... such a great film. I love De Palma's creative use of the split screen in that one. Thanks for watching and weighing in!
I am more of a layperson when it comes to De Palma. He has such varied types of films. I really need to watch Carlito's Way, heard nothing but good things. As far as Scarface goes, i am very meh on it. Maybe i just don't like gangster movies that much as i don't care for Goodfellas either. Mission Impossible is amazing though. After all the great Mission Impossible entries, i think people forget how good that first one really is and i love that they emulated a lot of De Palma's techniques in the most recent Mission movie to pay homage. I need to see more of his films though as i do like the ones of his i have seen so far.
Perfect placement chief, Blow out is real knock out. Just curious to ask you, have you or do you know any great Indian film? Actually De Palma, Spielberg, Cameron, Scott have universal appeal and we in India enjoy their all films and from your videos I can sense that you are a popcorn tub blockbusters hub man who wants the real entertainment rather than debatable indie films and all that high brow low brow nonsense
Thanks for your assessment. I love De Palma. I too don't love war films, yet GLORY and CASUALTIES OF WAR are in my top 10 fav films all time. Both from 1989. For me: 1. Casualties of War 2. Body Double 3. Obsession 4. Carrie 5. Dressed to Kill 6. Blow Out 7. Femme Fatale 8. Raising Cain 9. Carlito's Way 10. Snake Eyes * I really must watch SISTERS again because it's been a very long time, but I remember enjoying it. Would probably make my top 10.
Great list! I still need to see Femme Fatale... that's one of the few of his I've not seen to date. Gonna have to put that on my watch list. Thanks for watching and weighing in!
I've been a De Palma fan since the 80's. I know his films WAY better than you. ALL the films I list ahead of SCARFACE are more in keeping with his style. I respect everyone's list, even when I disagree. I can't take seriously someone who doesn't respect mine. Especially someone who just put SCARFACE on their list YESTERDAY! I strongly suspect you've never even seen most of the ones on my list. So thanks for playing.
How could you not mention Phantom of the Paradise!!!?? It should be your number one. It's mine anyway. The only excuse I would accept is if you haven't seen it 😁 If so, go for it!
Well I guess I have an excuse then lol.😉 I've never seen it... largely because, based on the trailer and reviews I've seen, it just doesn't look like something that would really be my cup of tea. But it's been on my watchlist for a while, so I'll get around to it eventually. Thanks for watching.
I can attest. I’m just beginning my Brian De Palma kick, but when a movie is so iconic and memorable like Paradise that it’s inspired me to check out 30 or so other movies - rewatches and first timers alike - that’s how you know you’ve found an all time favorite

Blow Out is my favorite as well, I saw it in the theater in 1981 (Yes, I'm that old) liked it so much I went a week later to see it again.

Love De Palma. Snake Eyes rules. Pretty much all his movies rock
Yeah he's always doing something interesting in his films. I just love his style.
Great list man! DePalma is growing into one of my favorite directors! I guess I'm watching "Blow Out" tonight? Lol

Dressed to kill is my favorite must have on 4k a movie I must have
Yeah Kino Lorber did an excellent job with the 4K disc. I was very pleased with how it turned out. And such a great film! Thanks for watching.

Body Double is absolutely a guilty pleasure for me.
The sex appeal is high.
Yeah I've always really liked Melanie Griffith myself. LMAO!

In Nobody’s Fool she actually flashes Paul Newman her top.
I was like “Wow” ❤

Untouchables was awesome.
I can’t believe “ Carrie “ didn’t make it on the list !
@@suzannek3493 It actually did make the list. You must have missed it in the video... Carrie was #2.
