August is a month that Athenians leave the city for holidays. So it is not thay busy in that period anyway, many businesses are closed in August because the demand is very low since the city is empty. Of course the heatwave played its role but August is not a busy month anyway. Even without the heatwave it is definitely the wrong month to show how vibrant Athens is. Athens is dead in August, gets on pause and starts again in September.
They should plant a lot more trees, nothing cools down temperatures than nature

Awesome video. Just have to say this was probably shot early morning. If you went there 6 hours later it would be extremely hot and quite crowded too.

I think its a combination of heat and Sunday. Many shops close during Sundays anyway.
45 degrees with actual feeling being 50 degrees after 17 days of a heatwave with wildfires making it even hotter is not just being hot. It is dangerous and yes, people are allowed to close their shops if they choose to in this extreme conditions. A delivery man died yesterday of a heatstroke and it was still 11 in the morning.
Hot hot, must be amazing but dangerous. We have a pretty cool weather in Finland at the moment. Ariel rocks it!🌸🎖️
Of course we lock up everything. Also all kinds of jobs in external areas are stopped from 12pm -5pm. Even if Greece and Athens particularly are used to hot temperature everything above 40 is crazy hot and dangerous for humans. Around 35°C is the normal temperature for Greece in summer.
Greece is a religious country. Thank God they keep things closed on Sundays.
I was born and raised there. After living for 12 years abroad, I can tell Athens is one of the ugliest and dirtiest cities I have been with quality of life comparable to the underdeveloped countries of Africa. No joke here folks.

Athens is garbage. It’s got a great spot for night life, but if you want to explore and tour for history, you will be disappointed. Spend no more than two days there. This is Athens in a nutshell: you pay to see old rocks in old ruins and it is underwhelming. There are drug addicts and pocket/backpack pickers all over the place, especially in the subways. The acropolis is cool. There is a really cool Airbnb I stayed in that was an old bar and has a very large retractable roof inside with trees growing in the ground. I’m telling you, spare yourself.
