Athens is easily one of my favorite cities in the world. I'm not one for huge tourism landmarks or historical traveling, but as a city Athens is beautiful, friendly, and unique

I went to Athens 6 years ago, and again last year. Huge change in the city and for the better. Once a tad grimy, now historic, bohemian and interesting. Love seeing you guys pick up on that. Very much an affordable city break I would now recommend to my friends.
That's so good to hear. I remember going there in my early teens, just after the Greek economic collapse and it was very grimy. Going back there in a week and honestly can't wait to see it nowadays.
Athens (and Greece in general) were never on my must-see list. And then I went last year in November. Now I tell everyone to go there (just not in the summer). It was wonderful. And the food...I actually ate Souvlaki at the same place. Great video that captured the essence of the city.
Nice! I went in '98 when things were still gritty, polluted & over run with scooters - One of the best trips of my life! I'd definitely go back & English is widely spoken amoung some of the friendliest people in the world.
My two cents. I have been fortunate to be in Athens a few times, and as I write this, I look forward to being there again this year. I think this video is one of the few that captures the essence of what Athens is and is like. Great job.
I love the blend of classic "in/out/around attache" information with the more reflective vibe of the "eassy-style attache". There's a million content creators that highlight the tourist attractions or swoon about the atmosphere of a place, and that's all lovely information about what it's like to *be* there. However, except for attache, no-one else tells me what actually *travelling* there will be like, including what the airport/station is going to be like, how much of a pain it'll be to get into the city itself, what to expect from local transport options and how expensive I can expect things to be. This kind of knowledge is usually only gained by actually going there and finding out the hard way, at which point you don't get to profit from it (at least not on the current trip), so having it distilled for you is amazing.
I'm in Athens at the moment and just went to Harry's Kitchen. It was absolutely fantastic and I wanna thank you for sharing all the little wonders of these great cities

But you presented the historical centre perfectly, nonetheless. I also hope you gave a try to traditional foods and drinks: moussaka, pastitsio, fasolada, freddo cappuccino, freddo espresso (these two coffees are the Greek versions of the classic Italian ones), frappé etc. For the souvlaki: we never made it with lamb, in America they really are making kebab branded as gyros, it's slimy as hell.

athens is a hybrid of mainlyBALKAN/MIDDLE EASTERN and a hint of WESTERN.by the time one steps foot in the country feels that has left the west behind.the people, the smells, the noise, habits, way of life ,buildings ,cars ,noise it resembles Beirut od Damascus.greece equally cannot be comparable to other southern nations like Italy or Spain.firstly because tgey are huge countriesand far more westernized ,advanced and modern.greeceon the other hand is tiny, religious, developing, extremely conservative and self invertive probably because they speak a language that noone else speaks outside the country.
Great video as always. But you were far too kind about the graffiti. It really is terrible and a shame to see some buildings (and metro cars) entirely covered
Mumbai? C'mon... Traffic congestion in Athens is a temporary (not a permanent) phenomenon within a day and depends on many factors. For example, during the pandemic, which is when you visited Athens, most Athenians chose to use their automobiles instead of public transportation, for obvious reasons. This causes traffic congestion to appear more often and for a longer period of time within a day. Even this, *at its peak, cant be compared with the traffic* in cities like Mumbai... Traffic in these cities can create new definition of the term "traffic" on almost a daily basis. There's also the issue of the quality factors of the traffic congestion itself, because in cities like Mumbai most drivers dont respect traffic signs and display poor or no traffic education at all, which makes the streets there *a total hell.* This Mumbai style of traffic is not the case in Athens, it never was. One has to admit though that the conditions created by the pandemic, and Im referring to Athens, was a stepback, as great efforts have been made to convice people to use public trasportation, which to large extend they managed to do. I guess after the pandemic people ll use pt again.
Thanks!

He says make sure you move further away from the touristy areas, then goes on and makes a video about a city of 4mil people showing only 2-3 central very touristy districts. Great.
2:38 wait…the fixed rate for taxi is €38?? 😨 last time my family and i arrived in greece (last year may) the taxi we had, charged us €100 mind u the drive was 27-30 minutes…we definitely got ripped off 😕 workers financially take advantage of tourists smh.
athens is a hybrid of mainlyBALKAN/MIDDLE EASTERN and a hint of WESTERN.by the time one steps foot in the country feels that has left the west behind.the people, the smells, the noise, habits, way of life ,buildings ,cars ,noise it resembles Beirut od Damascus.greece equally cannot be comparable to other southern nations like Italy or Spain.firstly because tgey are huge countriesand far more westernized ,advanced and modern.greeceon the other hand is tiny, religious, developing, extremely conservative and self invertive probably because they speak a language that noone else speaks outside the country.
YOOO I'M LATE
You need not spend long in Greece before everywhere else in the world feels kind of boring :)
terrible pavements - i just broke my ankle in athens a few weeks ago LOL .. otherwise awesome place !
I came here because Athens was leaked for Mario Kart tour lol
I live in Athens. For more than two decades. It's an atrocious place to live and I suggest any foreigner avoiding it at all costs.
If it was so ATROCIOUS why spend 20 years why didn't you go back where you came from ?
@@athenarockabilly6245 Born here! But no worries, by year's end I say goodbye to this sad excuse of a city.
