Revitalizing Abandoned Systems

In this essay, I identify a few systems and inclusions into the game, which become irrelevant husks once the player has interacted with them. That is with the understanding that we now live in the live service era of games, where many games (including Genshin) are always online, and thus, can receive constant updates and patching. It is my believe for that reason, that there's little excuse to leave these systems abandoned.
Here, I make the case for these systems to not only be revitalized, but for them to be reimagined in general, and offer a brainstorm of ideas.

They could make those old domains as a way to increase your resin regen, ex: the higher you can beat the difficulty the more time they take to of off resin regen as your reward.

This is a cool idea too, I didn't even think about it being used as a systems augment like that.
That would definitely get people to play them too. I know I would haha.

Next level copium. Just google why the resin system exists in the first place

@@hero9402 Eh, I think we all know why resin exists. That doesn't mean resin as a gameplay reward can't exist though? After all, you can straight up earn fragile resin as a reward from multiple sources, including sigil trees (Sacred Sakura, Tree of Dreams, etc), the weekly Teapot shop, some adventure rank rewards from 1-60, and others. I could be wrong but I think it might have even been an event reward a few times.
Granted, SketchPlay1 was talking about using the domains as a way to lower the regen rate, rather than outright flat resin, but the result of both is the same - more resin in your pocket. And that said, we have precedence for them giving us resin as a reward, multiple times. It's not the craziest thing to imagine them giving a temporary regen regen rate decrease, rather than flat resin.
Will it happen? Not likely. Hoyo is going to be Hoyo, after all. But I don't think the suggestion itself is absurd. After all, this whole video is probably copium, from that point of view.

the old domain thing is genius honestly. i really like the one time domains because there’s some amount of exploring within the domain along with the fighting which imo is more interesting and immersive. i like the little puzzles within them and i think keeping the puzzle mechanics but altering the actual solution a little would be cool
also i think the world exploration rewards for each region shouldn’t cap at 60% or be just reputation xp because it almost feels like you’re not getting any sort of acknowledgment from the game for spending hours exploring the whole place and also because by the time most people would 100% a place they usually have most or all of the reputation rewards collected already and the reward is pointless
i think it would be cool to have achievements for exploration milestones (like 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) and a namecard specifically for that. you can usually complete all the achievements in a category for a new region without getting 100% and i feel like it would be nice to get some sort of little thing from the game you can show for it. literally just having a cool namecard for clearing each region 100% would make me so happy

So what I’ve gathered from playing for a while now is that Hoyo initially wanted to make an open world action RPG. They did this by adding many systems typically found in those types of games: cooking, crafting, domains/dungeons, world bosses, main and side quests, reputation, and an advanced gearing system with artifacts. The Dragonspine expansion really took advantage of all of these RPG systems and I really enjoyed it. But then they got lots of feedback from players, casual players, even non-gamers, people they didn’t expect to play their game. This was all thanks to the pandemic of course. But when they got all of this feedback they had to change their mindset about the content they made. Their main audience was not who they thought they were compared to their previous games and who this was initially marketed towards. So since then they strayed away from these RPG mechanics and focused more on their characters and stories. Plus more chill casual content because that’s what the majority of their players wanted. This alienated all of us who wanted an open world action RPG. To this day my first exploration of Dragonspine is still the most fun I’ve had in this game, and that was over two years ago! To be fair, the whole RPG aspect isn’t completely gone. We still get new regions to explore, new enemies, new side quests etc. but nothing on the same levels as 1.0 Mondstadt and Liyue plus Dragonspine. And I think that’s a shame.

Cool video and cool ideas! I just finished exploring the new Liyue area and now I have an ungodly amount of geo sigils that feel wasted as just mora. I consider myself lucky bc despite having a lot of well built strong characters I hate fighting so I just spend my time exploring the world and messing around in the teapot (it doesn't make sense i know lol) but I totally get why other players are asking for more endgame content. Your suggestions are very good because they would satisfy both vanilla players like me (I would fight god for new furnishings idc how boring it is for me) and ppl looking for harder content to beat. Also on a side note your voice is really nice and relaxing :)

Totally feel you on the geo sigils thing, yep. Speaking for myself, I know the longer I play this game, the more Mora becomes less of a concern. I'd say out of all the game's resources, it's probably the one I pay least attention to nowadays - I just kind of assume it's there. So that said, I'm not particularly excited to turn in sigils for more mora. Another type of resource would be great for the shops. Or even more furnishings, I'm down with that as well - a steady flow of cool and new things to decorate with. I'm actually a pretty moderate teapot enjoyer myself, and would be down with that on top of some more gameplay/fighting related stuff.
And yeah, I do advocate for fighting and endgame stuff, but I'll never leave the chill or vanilla players out of any considerations. I think it's important for a game like this, that has appeal to so many different players. I have a list of things I'd like to see added to the game, I wouldn't want them to be at the expense or loss of those that aren't as enthusiastic about combat. So, I try to brainstorm in inclusive ways 👍🏾
Thanks so much for the listen, the comment, and the subscription! I appreciate it fully. :D

    a very nice video.
i think these systems could use some work in older regions, yes. but i don't think we can call them "abandoned".
reputation, trees, sigils, (they stopped with the 1 time domains for some reason, they were cool) - all of this gets added into a new region.
so, basically old gets replaced with the new.
still, i would be nice if every so often genshin could focus a little bit more on the adjusting the old stuff, insted of adding new (even tho still high quality)

I think the problem is that if they decided to add new content to all these abandoned sites, the game would weight like hundreds of GBs additionally and people couldn´t have it in their phones or Pcs anymore, there´re already people complaining about the game occupying too much space

Hmm, yes and no I think. I understand what you're saying, and while the file size would increase a little bit, I'm not entirely sure it would inflate that much. After all, even as it is, you can enter the domains and play through them again, and the traps, enemies, and mechanisms are still in there. So it's not really like allowing us to go back in and do it for rewards, just at higher difficultly, would change too much. And if they allowed different enemies and layouts for higher difficulty selection, sure that would change the file size a bit, but with the domain's framework being there, not anywhere as large as you think. Same with the sigil shops, reputation, and reward trees. These are still in the game as it is, you can walk up to them and see all the rewards you've claimed. That alone is taking up game space. Flipping a switch to turn some of these options back on, or adding new ones to them, should have minimum impact on game size.
